While other people go to the shops and buy their meats and chit, OP actually goes out there and puts in the time and effort to respectfully kill the animal and not waste a single resource from said animal..

jfl @ people bitching about OP not having the 'respect' for animals just because he's the one who actually kills them instead of shopping it off from your local store

much respect OP

Do you get a reasonable amount of meat from bear? I've never heard of people eating bear meat although it's obvious they do lol.

You get slightly less yield, in terms of meat vs inedible parts from bear. The reason is that they are big calorie storage facilities. They are all fat. I'll share a bear butchering pic today showing the incredible amount of fat on them.

If you render that fat down into lard though, you will have some of the best pastries and pie crusts around though. Think about a five gallon bucket full of pure lard.

It's one of my favorite ground meats. My wife just cooks it with wild mushrooms, and taco seasoning and it's the perfect low carb, high protein meal.

Really helps keep protein up when watching macros

Thanks man, srs.

Let's try remember though I am totally human and subject to all the flaws and bullchit that comes with that. I just happen to wake up every morning amped up for the next day and the adventures it might bring, and was lucky enough to be born in a place and time that allows me to go hard at what I love doing.

The realization that I am extremely lucky to have had the opportunities I have had is not lost on me.

If I could find a way to stop this 9-5 work thing though, that would be great! Lol

My end goal is to encourage others to get out and experience the wild world in whatever capacity they can.

Some ring neck ducks from a duck hunt this fall. One of my favorites to hunt. They canbe very funny around decoys, and not decoy well, but when it happens its magic. they like to drop in from behind you fast over the tree line and sound like jet planes. Scares the hell out of you if you are not paying attention.

More from a hunt with a buddy. Checked some traps along the way and got a few beaver. Pictured are bufflehead ducks, and common goldeneye. And my Portuguese waterdog. lol

Some really nice chanterelle mushrooms from this fall. i think these ones are specifically littlefoot chanterelles.

Nice new pics OP, even if I don't comment on any I'm still watching and enjoying them. Waiting for the vids, did you think about getting a gopro?

Imagine abandoning something you love to appease your partner's silly concerns. It's like if one of my live in exes said she didn't want me to play the guitar anymore because it's loud. lol

Still, good on the guy for making the compromise. I wouldn't be able to.

I got the new hero 9! But I just sent the first one back because I was only getting max an hours recording out of it.

I am off to the bush for a week of winter camping and trapping guiding on friday, and will have to film on my Phone. the S20 has great camera.

I just am fukin awful at filming myself. I am a reactive talker, as in I am way better interacting with people than talking on camera, so it might take a few months to get some decent videos.

Fuk I suck right now lol

Oh yeah, I remember you mentioned the beaver trapping trip. That's awesome, man enjoy!

Lmao it's all good, you should post vids to the misc for feedback on your speech, cadence, etc. I had to record myself for an oral presentation last semester and it was awkward as balls, so I know exactly what you mean. I tried practicing in font of the mirror, but it felt even weirder for me. Although it might help you get used to the camera.

Great thread man, glad you started it. Always interested in your hunting, trapping, and fishing adventures. Would love to get into hunting but I haven't the knowledge or the time. I do enjoy fishing in the local lakes and rivers for trout, bass, and panfish.

I feel you on killing farm animals. Had a friend who's parents raised chickens when we were kids. It was always a little strange when we would have to pick one out for dinner.

Camera gear packed.

Other gear most of the way there. This is a base camp trip, and I will not be breaking camp and moving each day, so packing is a bit different when you are not hauling all gear every day by toboggan.

In no particular order

Traditional showshoes
snowtrekker 8x10 tent
Titanium fourdog UL2 Stove
Sleeping pad
Thermarest *****r -18 bag
LOTN cotton anorak with fur ruff
RAB puffy down coat
Random clothes and personal stuff
First aid kit
Steger Arctic mukluks
Tingley overshoes
MEC down booties for in camp
Double titanium nesting pot set and pan.
Candles and extra lampwick for snowshoe bindings

All gear for a hot tent 9tent with wood stove) Should be no more than about 60 lbs. Which is fine even for hand hauling.

I will also bring an ice chisel for setting under ice beaver traps
Snowmobile and toboggan
A few fisher and beaver traps
Axe (always)
Bob Dustrude folding buck saw
Skinning knife

Here is a link to the course I will be assisting with. It is run by good friends of mine at Lure of the North. You might recognize Kielyn from season 7 of Alone. She was the runner up.

https://lureofthenorth.com/product/e...life-trapline/

Should be a good time. Browse through their videos.

If you ever want to experience a trip like this, call them up. You will remember it for the rest of your life. They have trips geared toward beginners too.
