They operate in completely different parameters and EVs have an very unfair advantage compared to ICE, with the torque aspect being the biggest one. For this same reason is why it's not fair to compare a bike built for track in a drag race with a car that will specifically outshine most of it's competitors due to it's design.

even a 2020 C8 beats the Plaid, not even a Z06 model. As does a Cayenne Turbo GT.

cheers bro
Good discussion and agree its apples and oranges but thats what makes it fun. (IE The plaid was not made to go around a track fast but it still does an impressive job of doing so when compared to say the Audi RS3 which is absolutely built to go around the track fast)

From what I can see the Cayenne Turbo does not beat the plaid. It is off by 8 seconds......i guess it depends on what data you are looking at.
And yes, the C8 Corvette does beat it by a second........and that car seats 2. The plaid is a grocery getter that i can strap my two kids in comfortably and throw the dog in the back as well. Thats what makes it impressive to me.

The tesla tune will change once they start taxing people to charge them. As of right now charging is tax free. Fuel tax is used to build roads etc, that tesla soyboys get to drive on for free.
The US electric grid will not handle all the chargers. How do I know? I'm a lineman in Chicago and have been on many trouble calls where tesla soyboys burn down the service wire because it overheats. A regular house pulls about 15 amps on each hot leg. A tesla 240 home charger will draw 40 amps..

I can certainly see that. I for one will not be buying a tesla to save money on gas or save the world so no factor for some that are considering Teslas. I am buying one because I think its a better user experience vs other vehicles i would consider to putt around town in.

do tesla's still suck in cold weather?
I remember reading test drivers had to turn off the heat or they would of ended up stranded in the cold.

A hybrid would be better for cold weather.

The way I see it, chargers will be timed in order to not overload the system. Let's say a transformer carries 10 customers if 5 of them turn on their chargers at the same time, most likely the transformer fuse will melt down and cause an outage. It will some how have to be timed or the electric grid needs to be rebuild.

The Build Back Better bill in the US has $73billion slotted for upgrading power infrastructure, but I think the programmed staggered charging will be a part of the end solution too

Tesla is a big trillion dollar tech company so they will probably dictate how the taxing works.

Uh no, there isn't even a single entity that maintains all the public roads in a country. Highways are likely paid for at the state level except those that were designed and built to cross the country, and roads within towns/cities are managed by those municipalities

Paying for this stuff is a big topic in the EV space and as it pertains to autonomous vehicles. artm is right, taxes on gasoline are a large part of how these places pay to build and maintain their road infrastructure and it will eventually transfer over to taxes on charging EVs. Municipalities are also pushing private companies like Tesla to foot some of the bill, especially when it comes to road upgrades that would help the deployment of autonomous vehicles.

The 2011 c6 z06 was 7:22.

Base model camaro is right there with it and the ZL1 destroys it. I'd imagine higher trim mustangs and chargers will as well. 4 seaters In the 30-40k range....and they can go more than 1 lap too. Tesla performance will fall off hard after the battery overheats or gets under 50%.

Or we develop zero emission synthetic fuel and the industry sinks

Or we develop effective carbon capture and the industry sinks

Some of my customers are in the utilities space. I definitely agree and believe there is a ton of innovation that needs to happen on the grid

Again, the Z06 is built for the track. The ZL1 is built for racing. You are talking about Camaros and Mustangs as 4 seaters but lets get real, that is not a family sedan. Im talking about a functional 4 door car that you could haul the family in. I find it hilarious that you are having to look at these cars and times to compare. When I choose a car of this type I am comparing it to the S Class,BMW 750, Audi S8, etc. Not a Camaro. So how do those luxury sedans fair on the ring?

Are Tesla vehicles even in the same realm as an S class or S8 in terms of luxury? I don't think so, their cabins are not indicative of their price

I'd be looking at a Lucid Air for that combo. Or have you seen the Mercedes EQS?

I don't hate elon.. but is he really the one doing this stuff or are his engineers and other people?

There's no doubt he's smart, I'm not saying that he isn't.

Or did he just have the money to fund this stuff? Maybe schmooze some investors

Yea, some chemistry chit. The cabin heater would diffuse heat from the battery and cool it even faster in freezing temperatures.

I think it makes more sense to start converting roads to being toll-based. Makes more sense to me anyways? Have people who use the roads more for either business or commute to pay for the actual cost of building and maintaining the roads they use. I'm not sure where fuel taxes even end up. What percentage of fuel taxes go to actually building and maintaining roads? My gut tells me that goes into a slush fund or overhead.

Certainly could be, I don't know the nitty gritty of the budget balancing here but have watched some good discussions from CFOs and policy makers about the financial realities of this stuff and how EVs + autonomous vehicles could affect them

Good points, I dont believe the Model S is on par with the S Class in terms of luxury. I believe Mercedes leads in that class. For me personally, I am willing to give up luxury (ive had multiple luxury sedans over the years) for software capability.

I am open to seeing the competitor's platforms but I am honing in on basically 2 questions - can this car take my family around town comfortably, and how good is the software/user experience.
