GF and kid are heading to visit her family for a week. I downloaded the Witcher 3 for what is probably the 4th time. I have yet to make it past that ghost/witch by the well before losing interest but people I trust swear it’s great and usually I love those types of games.
Sounds like you're still in the tutorial area White Orchard. There's a point where the game just clicks, and you haven't hit it yet. Trust us on this one.

It's just another of the countless 2D side scrollers?

The setting is modern day Japan, and the rpg combat takes place in a dream like world. It doesn't have a lot of the tropes of other jrpgs. You spend about as much time in the real world as this other world, and the thing about persona games since 3 is that you have a limited amount of "actions" per day that let you choose how to spend your time. Spending time with npcs can level up the arcana they represent. Doing so makes fusing personas based on that arcana (think pokemon types) stronger. It's a neat concept that makes the time your spend with npcs outside of combat, directly benefit combat.

You can also say fuk it and do straight up dungeon grinding.

That said, you do get to choose a waifu. Choose correctly.

not at all a generic 2D platformer, imo it's THE 2D platformer that took everything that had been done before and turned it into perfection

this topic isn't searching for the best game per se and when it comes to craftsmanship DKC TF can't be denied

Rocket league

Nearly perfectly balanced, can run on a potato, fun at any level of skill, very easy to learn but very hard to master. Cost $20 when it launched (was free on Playstation I think too).

It was such a simple yet almost perfectly made game.

White Orchard is generally considered utterly boring/tedious even by most of us who think that TW3 is the best thing since sliced bread. Best parts of the game are the story and the characters and there's very little of that in the tutorial area.

Know what you're talking about, first time I fired it up after everyone praised it I dropped it maybe 2 hours in. Picked it up again a month or so later to give it another try, made it through to Velen and the Red Baron and yeah, it is the best thing since sliced bread.

Sounds a little gay but if it’s JrPG goodness I’ll have to try it

Everything that looks like anime is a little gay, but it's a good kind of gay.

Imo it's top tier turn based combat.
