Finally got the grappling hook
It’s complete trash. Basically a portable rope you swing in. I realize the grappling hook in the original defied physics, but it was so much fun to use. This thing is worthless

That’s not saying it’s not worth a run through, there’s very few single player games I go through more than once.Disagree entirely that it’s basically the first one
The first one was a zombie game. This is a survival game with zombies sprinkled in that are just sort of there. Rarely are they a hinderance or even fun to kill.
I’ve finally reached a point where I’m stuck though. Missions 16/22 and I can’t find a way past volatiles. Which outside of the first scene of the game this is their first appearance. They’re significantly lamer than the original too

This’ll be a good game to run through until Elden Ring releases at the end of the month. Hope it’s not a let down.

This isn’t a bad game, but all the things that made the original really unique have been changed, and not for the better. I don’t see myself spending hours grinding out all the side missions.

Been playing this for 10 minutes and have never felt more bored/uninterested in a game in my life. I liked the original but damn . Is this even worth continuing or just fling it in the trash?

Just finished it
4/10
None of my earlier complaints got better. The grapple hook was the most rewarding part of the first one. Felt like you had to grind for hours and then finally a shortcut emerged.
Now that’s gone. Now without hordes of zombies to mess with it barely feels worth going back into. I probably will to max everything out, do some side missions.
But I might just redownload the original

No go then? The first one was actually scary at times, I heard this one isn't

The hordes from the first literally do not exist. I would say bet there’s maybe 10% as many wandering around and they all look like homeless people. Hardly any differentiation. Not like the original where they had different clothes, the oxygen tank guys, virals screaming at you. They look more like the flood from halo.
The only scary part of this game was waiting for something to happen that would have happened in 1 that was scary. So you just wander around tense, but nothing happens. I don’t know, lots of reviews like it, and if I wasn’t comparing it to 1 maybe I would think it’s great.
Literally all I wanted was the same game in a new setting with new characters. This isn’t that at all.

Damn, mine gets delivered today and not nearly as excited as I was when I preordered it. I loved the first one.
Sounds like I may just play it through at a higher difficulty to try to get some fun out of it.

Pfft the game has "Very Positive" reviews on Steam and those are generally extremely reliable
Unlike Cyberpunk, I personally haven't internally hyped this one up. Almost tempted to wait for even more patches and fixes to get the best experience, but I'll be loading 'er up as soon as I'm back home

I'm enjoying it. It's different, but things evolve. I loved dead island, I loved dying light, and I will prob love this. Some changes are questionable, but at the end of the day I'm enjoying a fun Co op game with the gf and a couple buddies.
The secret dev weapons are starting to be found also, which is showing me the devs are still doing the good things that made me love the previous games.
I will admit this game didn't give me that same awesome jolt like the first time you have to run around in nighttime in the original, but I think it's pretty difficult to get that same feeling twice in a row.
I put alot of hours into the first dying light, alot of it was just messing around in the open world. I always played on the hardest setting which made night time gameplay basically impossible or just not fun anyways. I think the new changes to night time balance it out more. In dying light 1 I basically just went and slept thru every night time anyways so now at least I'm not rushing to a safe house to just pass the night anyways.

I’m not a game reviewer so I don’t expect my thoughts to hold for everyone. It’s really just based on what I wanted from the game. I liked the weapons blue prints, I liked the giant hordes of zombies. The grappling hook was something a lot of people bitched about from the original, but I loved its physics defying nonsense. I loved just rocketing up the sides of buildings and basically teleporting to the rooftop with it.
This isn’t a bad game, it’s just a letdown for me personally based on what I was hoping for.

Also, for the unaware the night and day dynamics are a little different.
Zombies hibernate inside during the day, so the trade off is that to do some of the quarantine zones you have to do them at night when the zombies wake up and leave. So it's harder to run around outside at night but easier to explore and loot indoor places.

I finished it and it never really got better imo. I may pick it back up one day to try another play through but it wasn’t the experience I had with the first.

Overall tho, the game is decent(for me) so far. I'm only a couple hours in but enjoy wandering around and the dynamics of fighting zombies and humans. Definitely buggy AF (the perfect timed block for the jump kick move works about 60% of the time, among other things). But so far I'm enjoying. The low stamina and health to start is a bit BS for someone who's been apparently running around for over a decade lol. And the cut scenes go on for a little too long. I love a game story and following it, but damn do they push me to want to skip the cutscenes.

I 'm a little over the controls. I've gotten stuck behind a billboard more than once falling from a building and parachuting to try to fall back into the way up the building. Also didn't have problems with 'the buzz sound' or losing all sound until AFTER they released a patch for it. Now I have to forcibly reset the game every 90 minutes or so. I enjoy the game, but the glitches that acted up after 'fixing the glitches' are slowly chipping away at my tolerance.

The grappling hook in the first was fun af but completely ruined immersion. Brb zip out of any attack or to any rooftop, negate any fall damage by shooting it at the ground.
Anyways after another 12 hours or so I'm loving dl2. It's got its negatives but overall it's that dying light feeling I love. I can live with the changes. Game feels more immersive and night time is Def more balanced.

Made leveling up so much more fun when you finally had the weapons to go out and kill them.
