The market for liberal arts has downward mobility. This means her higher education will give her flexibility in social dynamics from her undergraduate school ranking and down.

This can limit how much it makes her challenge tradition

People who are high IQ don't claim they are high IQ. You haven't shut the **** up about how smart you and your daughter are.

Being young and thinking old people should die because they serve no utility is not a sign of high intelligence, it is a sign of mental retardation.

Go fist yourself and I hope your daughter gets eifel towered by an astronaut.

When she gets into the nursimg program all this woke chit stops. Way too much science based information and concepts to learn for them to push that BS. Also the program she gets her RN/BSN degree from makes no difference at all. Best to spend as little on it as possible. You seem pretty well of so it probably doesnt matter though.

College is nothing more than a place where parents send their children to get re-educated. OP seems like he raised an intelligent child, but that isn't common.

I hope no one wonders why America has become such a ****hole. They're all working together to create a weak society and it's all on purpose.

- If my memory servers me correctly, you are Managing Director in a Finance. Lets get something out of the gate and stop coping - the only people who work "in business" are the owners of the business from initiation to maturity. Everything else, despite not being a technical, is a salaried position, even a CEO.

A Korean mom and pop owned kimchi chain with 2-3 locations in California are more in business than you and me. Don't care if you are RnD Engineer in Texas Instruments or a "Strategy Analyst" in the BizDev function fresh out of MBA influencing "business decisions".

- The super technical career paths are just interesting to some people. However, if certain people realise they can "schmooze" as they are not autistic, yes buddy we can also flip spreadsheets and have some charisma here and there to present some business KPI yada yada.

In IBD markets, most client-facing people have Engineering and Computer Science degrees these days because at some point you need to execute on top of meeting pension funds for steak dinner.

Not to mention that some Biomedical PhDs who can talk with people and understand EBITDA and supply/demand (lmao) exit into very specialised Venture Capital firms with massive growth (outpacing tech right now) where they need technical knowledge not a Finance graduate who will try to run a repetitive model on businesses that have no historical data to benchmark against...

- Some technical career paths are better than others - e.g. you can do an MD and then PhD because you are super interested in public health and end up low six figs in National Institute of Health, but you can also do an MD and have a more well off career than many VPs of Finance in corpos, without the schmooze and actually doing work of actual value (50th percentile doctor).

A lot of tech leads in Sillcon Valley are happy clearing a million a year. Yes they have zero chance becoming CEO like that, but they don't care. But then again, despite being an McKinsey alumni, MBA-holder and having been only Product Manager, Google CEO has an Engineering degree and promotes a tech-heavy culture.

I wouldn't knock humanities - BizAdmin, Law, Econds all "good" choices (depends on ones goals and plans). I think the Miscer you quoted simply bundles non-STEM together because only in the humanities you can find imaginary stuff like "Gender Studies/White Studies". Have you ever heard of such shenanigans in Physics or Math? In fact, Sociology academia pushes school boards to reform math because it is "racist". No joke, look it up.

What she needs to do is take her humanities classes (sociology, psychology, philosophy anthropology etc) online so she's not wasting her time listening to a teacher drone on about nonsense.

You get in the online class, and all you have to deal with are readings and you just write a few paragraphs every other day about what you read. There's usually a paper or two and maybe a standard exam in which you can just copy and paste the question in google to get 100% every time, lol.

I didn't say that STEM is bad or not a good career, just that the thinking that STEM is the only useful degree is not correct. My kid just graduated from PA school and will make six figures his first job. It took me a decade to make six figures as an econ major. The difference is that PAs, like most STEMmies, start high and plateau. Business majors don't have to plateau if they're smart, motivated, hard working, and good communicators. Heck many freaking salesmen have a much higher upside than STEMmies.

STEM if very good. But it's not the be all/end all, that's the only point I'm trying to make.

Again, a few things to clarify as I believe we mostly agree that it aint black or white.

- A Korean mom and pop owned kimchi chain with 2-3 locations in California are more in business than you and me. Don't care if you are RnD Engineer in Texas Instruments or a "Strategy Analyst" in the BizDev function fresh out of MBA influencing "business decisions".

Do you agree with this? We have to clearly remove coping barriers and establish this as a law because that is what it is. No major-shareholder no care. I see this cope way too much from sales/finance. The best cope was from a fat American woman of course - "Businesses can't run without money so Finance is pretty important", BRB pivoting to HR as businesses cant run without employees.

I am a rev-gen sales/client analytics markets role in a major investment bank coming from a software/quantitative analytics background (coding) and I do not feel I am in business.

- "The difference is that PAs, like most STEMmies, start high and plateau" This must be examined in two ways:

1. Indeed, some careers' mechanics and structural factors limit them. Medical Doctor (you should slap your son for being a PA only btw, might as well be a nurse), is like high income but with little variance (assuming within same specialty for an apples to apples comparison). But obviously a trade-off between the Excel life vs something cooler in healthcare.

2. Smarts, hard-work and some EQ -> anything has options. Doctors can create private practices, which is actually more realistic than being the CEO of Google, but with comparable earning potential. But these are things that are quite outlier-ish, especially the CEO one because there are so many luck-based / schmooze factors to account for.

In contrast, your son can easily use his undergrad before going to PA grad school to continue in a PhD and enter VC or even IBD Healthcare division in advisory. All how you map it out, structure and execute. But sometimes the real technical ability can provide an edge in a world where Susan will be picked for gender diversity quotas because how do you compare her to Jack for the promotion when both have BizAdmin degrees and a Financial Planning and Analysis report can be written poorly, good but difficult to compare when both are written good (because that thing aint rocket science now, is it?)

Medical hierarchies replace potential with experience requirements. Nurses become qualified with tonnes of clinical hours. PAs fewer. Harvard MD can open a new business with next to none.

I enjoyed your daughter checking your "white people are evil" victim line. Maybe she does have the ability to think for herself.

Either way, she needs to learn to play the game. Get her degree/pre-reqs or forge her own path without it

Why on earth are you paying to put her through college if you both know it's bull****.

She will be such better off if you use that money to buy her a house and put her through trade school.

One of my biggest regrets is letting my parents waste their money putting me through college when they could have just bought me a house. I would have been so much better off.

I literally have never used my degree for anything. It's worthless.

Well good chance OP didnt raise her to be a house wife, so in order for her to get ahead without doing OF or something, she needs a degree. I doubt she wants to be a tradie. I agree with you, college is BS and I wasted a ton of money on it, but I dont see what options she has

She will be such better off if you use that money to buy her a house and put her through trade school.

One of my biggest regrets is letting my parents waste their money putting me through college when they could have just bought me a house. I would have been so much better off.

College is definitely worth it if you select specific degrees as part of a 5-10 year career plan. Not many do it, for sure.

Go fist yourself and I hope your daughter gets eifel towered by an astronaut.
It is hard to understand something you don't know. Both having kids and high intelligence. Not just 'high' but 3 or more standard deviations from norm. It really is not a 'blessing' as some may think. Well abv avg is good, but getting further out just makes relating to other more challenging and that is one of the most important things in life for success.

If you had a special needs mentally handicapped child, no one would ever suggest that they might have different needs. Genius level intelligence is the same distance from the norm as is mentally handicapped.

It was pretty easy for me to recognize the things in her at 4 and 5 which were atypical. Early in grade school we had a child psychologist who specializes in gifted kids do an assessment of her when I could see the struggles were coming in the school environment. It is very hard for these type kids to 'thrive' in school. I did terrible in school and was totally disconnected. Having testing done allows you within the school channels to ask for accommodations.

Happy to say my daughter's school years were much better and she enjoyed it.

Lots of people missed it, but this course is a requirement for her to take as part of entering the nursing program.

She already finished a year of undergrad credits in 'general';courses while she was still in HS so thankfully she doesn't need the typical 101 courses.
