Some of you may have seen where I posted my daughter went away for the first time to school. Well first week of classes wrapped up and she is seeing the unfortunate reality of much of the higher education system.

It was bad when I went to school years ago, but I have always helped my kids think independently and for themselves. That will not fit in well with the liberal status of most universities. My daughter is heavy right leaning (except probably on pro-choice). Other than that, I dont think you will find any agreement with the left mentality. So anyway...she got her first dose today

She is smart enough to be Dr easily but not willing the make the sacrifices it would be to her future family and kids. So to be a 'mom' first, she is choosing a path that will allow her the most flexibility.

I graduated in 2010. Can't imagine what it's like nowadays with an added decade+ of woke bull****. It's all far left propaganda and brain washing nowadays.

We moved to where we live specifically for the schools. But an interesting story. Our old house (and the reason it is our old house) got redistricted right when my daughter was getting ready to move up to middle school.

My wife and I figured we would try it for a year. It was NOT good. We recognize the influence that kids peer groups have on them especially as teens. My daughter even for that one year started to drift in a not so great way. Wanting to wear too much make up as an example and her very young 'friends' talking about wanting to have sex with their boyfriends. And before I hear it, we have had a very open relationship with my daughter about boys and sex and all those things from a very young age. She talks more to my wife about 'advice' but we are lucky enough that she comes to us for guidance and advice still. It is very special to have that trust with your kids.

So we decided to sell our home (which we took a 100k loss on as it was now in a less desirable school dist.) and we rented a home and worked out I was able to buy property and build the home we live in now. Was that fukin crazy to do all for our kids school? Some might say yes. But it was never a question. Kids can go down the wrong path so easily and there are no guarantees even in the best environments. SO we chose to always stack the deck in the favor of the outcome we wanted with the kids from families which also have expectations for their own kids. Growing up is challenging and we were not just going to rely on love and hope that our kids turned out OK. We pretty much dedicated ourselves to doing anything we could to help assure that outcome.

No regrets....That is just what you do for your kids.

But yes, I agree that school will have a HUGE impact on the development of your kids. Choose wisely and make the best choices you have. Hell, I met my wife in high school and that changed my life. Think about those years for you and impact it still has left on you. Friends and paths and relationships....etc. That might be one of the biggest influencers at a critical time.

We are not a religious family. I grew up Catholic, be I dont follow any religion and we did not raise our kids with a church upbringing. I dont feel there is any religion that can capture the views I have of the universe. I lean more to chaos. But I still live a life with the ideals of good and bad. I believe in living a 'good' life and being true to yourself even when others are not looking. It is not part of a religion, but rather a way to navigate life. Maybe there is some Buddhist in there...but like I said, I cant say I believe in any religion. I wish I could, but it does not seem to fit. I believe in a multitude of parallel universes, possibly infinite and very much am sure our 'existence' is not just what we can see of it.

My daughter is like I am. Very high IQ so she is not mature enough emotionally to balance out her level of intellect. She needs more life experience to have the appreciation for all things.

I used to be like that. As a teen I felt we should kill old people as they are a drain on the economy and dont produce. It took having more life experience to have perspective. For her right now, she does not have the life experience to appreciate the broad spectrum of issues that arise in this debate. I would say I am pro choice for very early on, but personally it is not what I would choose. I am very much against late(er) term abortions.

She is just a kid, developing ideas as she has experiences in life. Very easy early on to not value the lives of the unborn. A lot changes when you hold your own child for the first time if you are lucky enough.

We have debates on it often, and I understand totally why she feels how she does. I only try to get her to understand the spectrum and come to feel what she does because it is HER belief and not be manipulated by headlines or just follow the 'sheep'

Huh. I got my general studies chit through a community college. I took a sociology class (Sociology of Family, Relationships, etc.) The material WAS Sociology, no social politics bull****. However the obviously homosexual teacher did throw in some agenda crap here and there. Two separate instances:

1) Had a week where we studied adoption and the foster care system and all it entails. No underlying agenda. However one of our assignments for the week was to watch a documentary of homosexual couples trying to adopt. The documentary showed how gay and lesbian couples have extra hurdles to work through before they can adopt. The film was strange because they wanted to shine a spotlight on how gays and lesbians are unfairly treated like they are sexual deviants trying to turn kids gay or whatever. However sprinkled throughout the documentary the gay and lesbian couples made dumbass raunchy jokes here and there. They just couldn't help themselves.
Then the assignment afterwards was to have a class discussion on how gay/lesbian couples are unfairly treated in the adoption and foster care system, what are ways to "educate others on equality." In order to get an A you had to agree everyone is homophobic.

2) Studied relationships with abuse, statistics of abuse, sociology of abusers and abuse victims. Again, no agenda. However we had to watch a TED talk of a woman who talked about how she was abused by her ex-husband. Throughout the TED talk she was explicit with how her ex would abuse her, however she was always vague with the lead-up to the abuse (as far as what all she said and did.) The teacher wanted a discussion and asked our thoughts. Almost every woman in the class claimed she was a victim of abuse in a previous relationships (lol ok...) and I gave this talk about how it was obvious to me the woman in the video was deliberately hiding details to the story. I suggested that although she didn't deserve the abuse, she likely instigated it in some way. I said it's important to discern instances of abuse versus just flat-out toxic relationships between two people. The teacher gave me some condescending chit lecture about how I was "victim blaming" and I need to educate myself on the female perspective. He gave me a 0 for that. Lol okay. Still finished the class with an A. What a ***got.

Anyways that's my experience. Trash on community college all you want, but I only had two classes that had any shred of liberal indoctrination: that Sociology class and the one Psychology class I took. Other classes like History of Western Civilization and Social Science of American Military Conflicts was actually very factual and never had some obnoxious Correct-The-Record kind of agenda. lol my History of Western Civ class even gave us a textbook where the author was an anti-semite. He called the Jews "Yahweh's Cult"
