The movie was a throwback to the 80s-90s era action movies that were super patriotic. Portrayed masculine figures. Competitive male spirit. Etc. Most guys like fighting/warfare/flying jets/planes/riding motorcycles/ competitive athletics/military culture. And this movie had all of that.
The movie isn't about some deep plot. About having any kind of SWJ messaging thrown at you. Etc. Its just a fun flick to kick back and watch with your girl and/or friends. I went watch it with my gf and two other couples and we all enjoyed it.
Your sig says you are an anti-imperialist vegan commie. Why the **** would you even watch Top Gun? You might as well go watch some hunting/African Safari movies as well then go complain about them.

Wife and I finally watched it yesterday. Planned a top gun day where we watched the original (I only saw it once many years ago and wanted a refresher) than followed by Maverick.
Needless to say Maverick was a big letdown other than the final mission and dog fight sequence at the end. Not sure why it got so much hype. It was a more boring version of the original and scene for scene was almost identical up until the end
7 / 10 at best imo
