I would never call it an easy game to newcomers, even the remake on standard can get pretty challenging at times

of course you now have a lot of players with multiple playtroughs in the last 18 years (lol) that are calling it easy which gives a skewed consensus

Classic game, loved the original.

Will play this, but thinking about giving the entire series a run-through first. Zero and 1, RE2 and RE3 remake, RE4. All on PS5. Thoughts?

Only thing I've noticed that seems subpar, judging by the trailers, is some of the voice acting. I know, Resident Evil always had terrible voice acting, but back then it was part of the overall wonkiness.

Brahs, this is one of the best gaming experiences I've had in my entire life. Not even kidding. Gonna run this game for the next two decades until another remake comes along just like I did OG RE4.

I'd say no need to play through them all prior. The RE games are all barely connected. The devs constantly set up plotlines just to abandon them for something new and shiny in a sequel.

If anything, I'd say play RE2make to be familiar with some of the characters in this game and get Leon's progression. It's also worth playing OG RE4 if you can get past the initial learning curve for the control scheme. I think it'll make you appreciate the remake that much more seeing how they made fresh spins on classic moments. I'd say this is the most optimal progression to RE4make.

RE1make is one of the best in the series with RE2make, RE4 and RE4make, but you'd have to get past the old survival horror style if you aren't used to that. Don't bother with RE0 or RE3make unless you're really fiending for more RE after playing better titles.

I was hesitant to buy this at first because I’ve played the original RE4 several times and it’s a perfect game and thought I’d just be playing it all over again with new graphics, but…. This has been the best experience I have ever had playing a game. This is my new GOAT.

A masterpiece of a game.

Just started the penultimate chapter ..... Goddamn what an absolute ride. It's easy to see why so many people call this one of the all time goats .... I can see how it inspired so many games coming after it because all of them have that RE4 feel to it. The only nitpicks I have is that the "sidequests" are kinda lame and force you to backtrack, not really a fan and how the game locks you out of previous areas without giving you a prompt at times. A fast travel option would have been nice in the interest of time.

The story is kinda lame too, but I'm just rolling with it, not a big issue.

So far the best games released this year have been linear games with good progression of buying upgrades for weapons (Deadspace and RE4).

No crappy open world
No checklists of random activities
No tedious busy work
No retarded skill tree with useless upgrades, perks and stupid % based upgrades
Sig line can't be a novel

These are always the games I seem to enjoy the most. Open world games feel like a chore to me most times.

I’ve never played dead space. Maybe I’ll buy that next.

Agreed. It’s cake for me. But definitely don’t expect it to be for everyone.

I'm also so fuking sidequest, skill-tree, upgrademaxxing, and "open-worlded" out. Don't get me wrong, Ragnarok was easily among the best games I've ever played, but it seems every great game of the last 2 decades at this point has been open-world. More recently, every great Sony game was some iteration of these same formulas (GOW, Spiderman, Sushi, & even fuking Ratchet & Clank on the upgrade/skilltreemaxxing side of things). While I fuking love all those games, this ia a much-needed break.

This game is an absolute 10/10 for me, and I hope more devs take notice.

I haven't played the new Dead Space yet, but I'm wondering if it might feel a bit underwhelming after this one.

Oh I've played RE4 a few times. Love that game. Played most of the RE2 remake, never played RE3. I've played through 5 and 6 before, started 7 but didn't get far, and never played 8.
Loved the franchise for many years, but really got into it with the original RE4. (Played a bit of RE, RE2, and one of the "House of the Dead" style ones as a kid, but only borrowing the games from friends briefly.)

I beat my first run on Hardcore. 22 hours doing just about everything except for the shooting range. This was genuinely one of, if not the the best gaming experiences I've had in my entire life. It's insane that Capcom never hit RE4s heights again until they remade it, because this gives OGRE4 a legit run for it's money as the best RE game and best horror action game of all time.

A few negatives:
-U3 being removed is bull****. He was my second favorite boss in the OG game after Krauser and one of the biggest horror moments of the game. Removing him and then designating Verdugo as U3 was lazy.
-They kind of phoned in the Island. The Village and Castle had huge changes and tons of new content to improve on the OG. The Island was basically a streamlined greatest hits version of the OG Island (minus U3, of course). It's improved, but IMO not to the same degree other locations were
-Salazar's new boss fight was annoying and a downgrade from the original boss design and fight IMO. Only boss I didn't really enjoy.
-The RPD outfit as an unlockable seemed like a no brainer. It not being included when it was in the original is legit annoying. It's my favorite look on Leon and it's all I used in OG RE4 once I unlocked it.
-New Ada sucks. No need to get into this since you've heard it all before. I'm glad they gave her moment where she saved Leon's life from Krauser to NuLuis instead, because my god Luis was badass in that scene. It's insane that they followed up with this Ada after giving us her RE2make version, which was potentially the best version of the character we've ever gotten.

Other than that? I genuinely can't list all the positives because I'd be writing an essay. This game was near perfection for me. The only thing I'll bring up is that the boss fight with Krauser is up there as one of the best boss fights I've ever experienced, and it was against a freaking (mostly) human. Unreal.

Personally, I hope we're done with the remakes. I want to see this team take on modern action horror entries with OG characters while the RE7 team continues making survival horror entries with ew characters. Bring old Leon more inline with his RE4make version and give us a modern game of this quality.

Ok, cool. Just didn't want you to bounce off the older entries any not try RE4make incase you were a new player. If you want a series run through in that case, go for it

Das fkn it

Only games that really sent me in my entire life like this were OG RE4, SH2, and Bloodborne.

After the patch I still noticed a delay in texture rendering, and some don't render fully at all. Also still slow frame rates at times. PS4.

I suppose the issues were mainly on PS4, no surprise really

at this point developers should just focus on current gen tbh

Circling back on this. Finished the game and started another playthrough before I decided to compare the remake to the original.

Music is weak and seems like an afterthought. The music in the original was so well done and added to the intensity of certain parts.

Bosses are way to easy. The floating Salazar monster was dumb.

Cutting U3 from the game was disappointing.

Adding the CQBR was a great idea...except for the fact you'll rarely have enough rifle ammo to make it worth using.

Turn a corner and there is the arms dealer. Five minutes later you'll see him somewhere else.

I'm sure I'm missing other complaints, but otherwise this game is really sharp. Controls are excellent imo. Graphics are beautiful. I give it 8/10.

Idk man which music are you talking about. RE4 2005 village battle theme gets old so fast.
