Aside from the safety aspect of a big dog to help out against unwanted guests, agreed OP.

Litterbox makes daily life super simple. Especially, as you said, for an apartmentcel / condocel.

Super low maintenance.

My ex and I had two dogs, one of which had to be put down last August due to aggressive cancer, and she took the other one with her when she moved. I definitely would like to get another dog in the future, but I decided to take a break during this bachelor period and enjoy the ability to have unrestricted time away from the house during the day/night, travel without making arrangements for the dog, etc.

It's definitely easier if you have a friend or family member nearby who is willing/able to take care of your dog if you're gone for a week or whatever. After my ex's parents moved away (they previously would watch the dogs at their house if we traveled), it became much more of a pain and she was constantly insisting we find vacation spots where we could take them. That just means your vacation is now restricted and less fun because you have to keep returning to the Airbnb or whatever to check on them rather than just exploring and having a good time.

I've never really been a cat person. I used to really like the one my grandmother had when I was little, but I never had the desire to get one and have developed annoying allergies to a lot of them anyway.

My dog was 1.5 years old when I adopted him so there wasn't really any training involved. I meant more as in having to walk them and not being able to leave them alone for too long. I didn't have a fenced yard for the first 4 years I had him and then no yard for the rest of the time so I had to walk him 3-5 times a day. When you have a dog you also can't just up and go on vacations, you need to find a pet sitter or board them if you can find a trustworthy boarding place.

When I owned dogs I had a huge fenced backyard. I still didn’t let them run around unsupervised because fear of snakes even if you cut it it won’t stop rattlers from coming they’ll just be more easy to spot.

But I would never have without a yard . Feed 2x a day. 24 hour access to fresh water. Dog shampoo. Some treats. Some toys.

It’s been almost a year. Now I’m used to it no dog food or vet bill and don’t worry about a routine. No dog dander. It’s quieter. But it’s kind of just life at this point without a huge void that I did feel after the loss.

You let your dog chit all over the yard though, that's just unsanitary and degen

dogos are so much more affectionate than cats.

And unless you are on a farm hearding sheep the entire reason you got a pet was for companionship, so that makes sense to get a dog but they are also more work.

people getting working dog breeds and pit bulls are retarded. first pit bulls should just be banned and you should need a license for like a pure bred german shepard or dogs like that, you cannot leave them alone all day and walk them 2 blocks a day and expect it to not go insane. Its meant to be working 12 hours days on a big farm.

I would just walk around once a week or so and pick it all up in a grocery bag, tie it up, and throw it in the trash can outside.

I would way rather even in apartment living not be lazy go walk my dog than have to deal with a gross litter box picking up a **** in a bag is way better than scooping stuff out of a litter box

I have a big dog and two cats, both cats neutered. They have become best friends and the cats follow me when i take my dog on a walk lol. The two take care of the small intruders such as spiders/rats/whatever dares coming near the house, and dog takes care of any of the big possible threats which are often just people coming by for whatever reason lol.


Both have their pros and cons thats for sure, and having a big yard sure helps.

My yard is fenced in, and my dog is meh about walks. Sometimes so much that I have to make him go for a walk. Rides on the other hand, he’s all about.

This is how my dog is too lol.

he gets two decent walks a day, sometimes 3. I'll take him to the beach on weekends, but after 30-45mins he's beat and ready to go home. The rest of the time, he spends at home sleeping either on the couch by himself, or by one of my two roommates when I'm at work. In the evening, he's hanging out with me. And this is p much how he's always been. When he was younger he was more active, but not by much. Still slept away most of the day, whether he was left alone or left with people.

Everyone always compliments him for how chill he is, he is 9 so it's not too surprising, but in every other regard he still acts like a puppy. I got pretty lucky with him.

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape.

In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches.

The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe.... for now.

I'd wager that 90% of dogs in America are being ABUSED via under stimulation. Retard Americans with no discipline or training are getting dogs because it's the cool thing to do without having the knowledge or wisdom required to effectively engage a dog.

Worse than that is that white Americans claim to love dogs so much, but yet let AA's own them, which results in even more abuse and mistreatment to potentially hundreds of thousands of dogs across America DAILY.

If people truly cared about dogs they would not just let anyone own them. It's all a big virtue signaling cluster****. And in the end the dogs are the ones who suffer.

I do not own a dog and think people who own dogs for nothing but "companionship" are a bunch of weirdos. Dogs are meant to serve a purpose, they're not to be replacements for human friends and family just because the state of our social interactions in America is abysmal.

I don't know, I have never found the idea of owning a dog very appealing.

I grew up with, and much prefer, cats. I don't even want the responsibility of owning one of them. Part of me would really like to get a ragdoll though.

I think I’ve owned more cats than I have dogs In my adult life. Yup. I have had a total of 9 cats, and 5 dogs since I found this board. Not all at once. Besides the Persian I didn’t have to even pay for pussy… nope! 2 were strays I fed one freezing winter morning in 2003, and long story short, those two moved inside, and turned into 6. Each one I neutered or spayed that year.

Yeah we have a little dog and it’s a pain in the ass. Even with a yard and a doggy door gotta take him on a walk every day and he’s gotta take thyroid medication twice a day. Luckily the woman handles most of it but still, never again for me after this one

Actually kind of agree with this, especially people who get large working breeds. Making them stare at the walls every day for 23.5 hours is pretty chit. They need to be outdoors off leash as much as possible.

Brutal. They're basically bio-engineered love robots. I actually like dogs but don't really respect them. Fun to pet them and play with them for a bit, but owning a dog so it can worship you 24/7, be 100% dependent on you for even basic survival needs, have to revolve your life around their defecation schedule, etc. is weird as fuk.

The dogs that serve a purpose like farming or protection are pretty cool. The love bots who literally don't do anything but sit in your house all day and beg for food and attention are fun for five minutes but then its like, why do you exist and whats broken with the person who needs this.

Unconditional love is unhealthy btw. It breeds laziness and narcissism.
