You can make life really easy if you have seven figures I think… just due to the compound interest being earned, you don't really have to stress yourself out everyday during your job anymore, that could make for a pretty good life depending on what you do with it. I'm personally feeling pretty burned out from my consulting gig after 5 years… I definitely wouldn't do this job if I had a couple mil to spare.
Literally exactly what im trying to do with my life. Moving my chess pieces everyday working toward this goal.

Currently have 6 rentals making passive income and around $500k total equity in them, along with ~$160k liquid in stocks making decent dividends, + decent 401k/Roth IRA i can liquidate if wanted/needed.

2 of the rentals are beach houses at 2 beaches I like, and Im also in the middle of converting a high-top Sprinter van into a tiny home on wheels. Not sure which route I want to take yet, but ill have many options. live off of rental income, sell houses, use equity and live off interest/dividends in the van or a beach house. or semi-retire, get a fun job at a beach or cruise around doing fun/different odd jobs in the van, etc. etc.

Just keep moving those chess pieces bro even if you dont know exactly what you want to do yet

That's my ideal lifestyle (srs) I'd like to get into rentals too, I have the capital to add a couple duplexes or something to my portfolio, if I could find some that had positive cashflow after expenses (including property management). I'm still enjoying most of my net worth being in the stock market until I get further into real estate; my portfolio generates very little in dividends now, but it could always be re-allocated into 50% VOO 50% dividend ETF or something and that could be enough cashflow for me (sometime in the future)

$1m net worth is doable within 10 years or so as a goal if you max out your 401k/403b and own a home and don't buy a new car, the last part is CRITICAL, DO NOT BUY A NEW CAR. all these broke peeps who whine are broke af because of auto debt. if you take out debt it better be for something that has high probability of going up in value (mortgage, boomer stocks)

for $1m net worth I think it'd be smart to have 10% liquid, 40-50% real estate the rest in stock or businesses (cash cow divy stocks are great!). if you are young go for growth.

I have a car worth $22,000. I own the car and have no debt. I kinda like it, but I was thinking maybe I should sell and buy up stock in this ****ty market?

I kinda only use it for show and to get to a,b..

it was the same before when btc exploded and misc front page was filled with crypto talk.

I saw this post that made me lol.

January 1 2021 if someone bought top 6 coins by market cap excluding BTC

$100 in each so $600 in total they would have turned $600 into $10K as of today

you didn't need to look at charts just bought eth / doge / cardano / xrp / polkadot / stellar Jan 1st.

True, this is ridiculously frustrating when I think about the 10+ years of working alot of 80-90 hour weeks, and teenagers get stupid lucky on fake currency and make it in weeks. I try not to think about it.

I personally wouldnt consider buying any real estate right now. Seems like everything is a bubble right now especially real estate. I dunno tho man, who knows, alot of stuff still isnt back to the pre-2008 so maybe itll only hav a small correction or wont pull back for years yet? who knows… thats why im not selling anything, but im also sure as sh!t not buying anything right now.

*$50k year is barely above β€œisn’t chit” and I don’t know of any jobs that pay that much that aren’t very physically taxing or stress-free anyways
I could easily live off of $10-15k/year right now, I could easily find a fun, part-time job at the beach making that

*Market crashes/stays low for a long period of time = goodbye to that barely enough compounding interest you were counting on, at least for that timeframe. Hope you’re OK with drawling down that principal already at age 38 lol
this is why I have high-quality dividend stocks for income

*Inflation never stopscoming and your purchasing power never stops decreasing
stocks/dividends will mostly o up with inflation

*You may be OK with living in a van/tiny house today but 10 years from now that will not be your same idea of a acceptable lifestyle. In fact many enthusiasts quit well before 12 months
cant agrue anything about this one, probably true, thats why I will always have the option to move into one of the beach houses or rentals

*Once you’ve been out of the workforce for multiple years you will find it quite difficult to go back in at the same price point/salary you were making when you left
this one doesn't affect me. although I have 2 degrees, Ive never held a job that required a degree or paid good money. I currently work in a factory, I never made good money at a job and never will need to. I can always find a job that pays enough because I dont need a good salary.

*Renters don’t always pay their rent, gig jobs/side work is not dependable pay
agreed, but I will always have at least a few years of living expenses saved up, and im pretty good at picking good tenants. knock on wood, I've only ever missed 5 total months of rent in my 8-9 years of doing this with up to 6 rentals. The side gigs/tem work will honetly just be for fun/to pass time when retired. I wont really need the income

*Health insurance becomes more needed and more expensive as you age and all of those zero years will kick you in the balls when you go to claim Social Security (if it still exists at that time)
catastrophic health insurance with a very high deductible.. very calculated risk. im extremely healthy, and I also will easily be able to pay the $10-15k deductable/out-of-pocket maximum if some freak thing happens like cancer or appendicitis something.

I have no pension or other guaranteed trust fund/annuity/some chit like some of you may have, if I did then maybe I would have a different outlook but being that I am only surviving on the fruits of my labor I’m expecting to have a higher standard of living before I quit working thus requiring a minimum of $2.5M if not $3M. I’ve been to over a dozen foreign countries and have tried to find one I’d be willing to sell everything and move to today and I have not found it yet. I’m still searching though and if I find that perfect country I will quit my job tomorrow and move there but I am making more money per year than I ever have before so I’m going to take advantage of that as that is my greatest wealth building asset currently. GL & WAGMI
*Bolded*

Good advice man, I appreciate it. Bolded are my thoughts.

Ive also spent many nights looking into an ex-pat opportunity. I havnt traveled out of north america at all so I cant really say much. from the research ive done tho, I really like portugal and central america, and may add those as an option in the future. My parents are getting pretty old though and Im the only sibling still nearby so that is my main reason for not going this route right now.

i don't care if she is a feminist, tran, lesbian, drug addict, and in general a zhitty/great person… I care about return on investment and this year it has been a mess

last year most stocks did 2x at minimun… it's not like she did anything special

Agreed

While I hope she's right on pltr, and frankly I thank her for propping up the share price, I think she got lucky af with tesla - and that's like her main holding

Tech and growth boomed last year. She just happened to be in the right place at the right time

Tesla from 180 to 900, on what basis ? They became profitable and got in the nasdaq.. ok..?
