Got some bad news. Ottawa is a Government worker city and its very quiet. Its where people move to live a quiet life in the burbs.
Where in BC was she living?

I also heard that in order to find work easily in Ottawa you have to speak French but I'm not sure about this one. It may or may not be some random rant by people here and there.

Ottawa is nice overall, but it is still a government town, there is the market and a few other places there. pauly is right in that its quiet at times but still nice. than again im from toronto so compared to toronto i find it kinda boring. I still think ottawa is nicer than halifax and I liked halifax, nice small little city with a bar on every corner and a nice view in the summer.

BC was nice too, Its expensive but if you are into the outdoors its a beautiful place to be, and has the nicest weather in canada.

on that note Alberta and manitoba and saskatchewan were frozen wastelands, but to be fair i never been to calgary which i heard is nice.

The territories are ok to visit in the summer at least once in your life but to live there you better be making tons of money or else its not worth it.

it is quiet governement town so there is not much out of the norm as you see in montreal and toronto
but it is still a nice city to live. Plus if you have a good paying government job you can still afford a house and have a good lifestyle.
French helps to get work there for sure since most jobs are government.

all depends what you want but there is less options in canada on where to live for sure, If you compare it to the states but than again the states has a population of over 300 million compared to out 35 million and they have more useable land mass than we do. In canada its all down to a few select cities and outside of that it can suck unless you are into the country life, which im not.

lol. That's not true. At least up here our citizen on min wage can still have decent living condition as oppose to a certain country down south…

-Montreal is cheaper housing and rent wise. But its an old city and for a lot of people it feels dirty (which is true in some neighborhood, St-Michel *cough*)
-Quebec City is, well its Quebec city. Its a different experience but I've been there like once or twice in my life and have little intention of ever going back simply for lack of interest in doing so
-Ottawa. Nice and overall kind of a laid back place while still not being a small town either. To me Ottawa is a mix of a small town lifestyle shoved into a semi big city.

Those are the only ones I've been to sadly. Even right now, I'm not in Montreal per say. I'm in a remote town yet still kinda close to it just by getting on the highway. 30-40min drive. Idealy if I was to move to either BC or Ontario that's probably what I would do. Find a smaller city/neighborhood kind of close to the big city.

Yeah I guess it all depends of how ambitious you are and what you want to do with your title. As you said and as I've heard countless times while I was unsure of the choice of my major, obtaining your CPA opens up a lot of doors in front of you which may or may not lead you to accounting related stuff.

Ain't gonna lie man, there are lots of chit they teach at school that makes me want to punch holes through walls. Fortunately, most of those things are done by technicians irl so as long as I stick to auditing I shall be fine

The only way I'd end up living in Toronto is if my dad gives me one of the houses he owns(Story behind it) and also if there is a job there for me which isn't likely.

yea it sucks. i was looking at a new condo as investment property and they wanted 300k for just under 500sqft on a lower level with no sunlight in a crappy part of the city. not including mainteance fees.

Im looking at cottages now i can get on the water for 150k within 2.5 hours from toronto.

Did I?

Well tl;dr for anyone that doesn't know:
* My dad has owned several houses/properties in Toronto
* Owned first house at 23
* Owned several at a time renting them out.
* Owned several in now very expensive areas.
* Didn't want to deal with real estate anymore so sold off all but one extra property as retirement fun.
* House sits empty while price goes up because of market.
* We live in smaller house than the empty one.
* I could have had my own water front condo.

Oh no a house wouldn't be mine to keep. If he was to even let me have a property it would be just to live there, I pay the bills, I have to maintain it to his standards(depending on the house. Which are insane btw) until I can get my own place.

He does have a plot of land up on Lake Joseph that I called dibs on.

well that doesn't sound too bad if you can get a free place to stay and just pay for utilities and other maintenance. rent out a few rooms too, or basement of that place, and you will be making money on it lol.

Well depends. One house is 800sq.ft which is the one we live in and the other is 2200sq.ft+ I believe and sitting empty(that logic). The empty one needs a ton of work done because it's 1980s in there. It's also not set up for tenants unless it's friends but that won't happen. The smaller one same situation also it's super small.

The other this is I'd probably have to live there as is which means will everything in it. Did I also mention my dad is a hoarder? Not the messy type just buy and collect a lot of crap type that may be useful or was useful once. Which means no one could or would want to live there.

Also the rules oh man on top of the hoarding did I mention my dad is crazy? Generally part of the hoarding.

It's better that I live on my own in my own place. This is one of those too good to be true deals.

It's worth close to 1.1mil apparently according to the neighbor who's a real estate agent. But no one will probably ever live in that house because I quote from my dad "you guys make such a mess that I'd never let you live there because I work too hard to clean up your sh*t" now if you see where I'm living on my own it's clean but not OCD clean.

My dad has plans to knock down a wall in the basement bathroom to put a shower in because there needs to be an extra shower. Also no one but him is allowed to use the upstairs one because of his rules and he's fuuking crazy.

Pretty basic stuff. I didn't even do math 12 in high school lol. Although I did a math course in college which I guess was the equivalent. Didn't do any calculus during my 4 year finance degree ayyyylmao.

Truth on BC being the best place on earth. I will fight anyone that says otherwise. I'm pretty sure Ottawa has gotta be >>> Halifax. I mean Halifax is pretty populated but I guess the surrounding areas aren't very big? Whereas Ottawa you're still within driving distance on pretty populated areas. Plus you get to cheer for the Senators lolz. Pics of sister? ;P

Canadian real estate not even once. Only Hong Kong is more expensive and they have like 2 billion people crammed in an area the size of metro Vancouver.

Parents bought a place in the early 90's for 300k and sold it last year for 1.5mil I grew up in that house and had so many memories. Was hoping I'd get it when they croaked. Now I have no chance unless I win the lotto or something.

Well my mom knows I'm not going to live in Toronto because of my career route. My dad still thinks I'm going to live in Toronto yet has no idea about my major. My brother has the only chance with his job but doesn't really want to live within Toronto maybe outside of it but still it's super expensive.

First 2 years were pretty general business courses such as english/math/accounting/marketing/econ etc. 3rd and 4th year was the more advanced accounting and econ stuff and more focused classes such as business law, ethics, stats, investment management, competitive ananlysis etc
