each lane does have its own role, that's too much for me to type now, someone else will enjoy doing that but you can Youtube or go to Twitch to see people play different lanes and champs. there are over 100 champs so there is definitely a lot to learn.
usually a team is made up of a tank, mage/assassin, ranged attack champ, and a support. i don't know how champ select works at level 8 but in ranked games you choose the role you want to play before queuing for a game.

The only thing that sucks is that lots of "new" players are actually smurfs. Which really sucks for the real NEW players because they have to deal with people that have much better game knowledge than themselves, but thats just part of the game.
The general "rule" is that 1 person top, 1 mid, 1 jungle, 2 bot lane. Jungling doesn't really start until you reach around level 15-20+ because its difficult without proper runes/masteries. For someone like you that is just starting off, dont worry about which champion goes in which lane. Just play different champs and see which ones you like, and you'll learn as you go
Also, the game is toxic as hell. Dont be surprised at the huge amount of **** talking from 14 year old kids

Damn I played 3 games on intermediate last night and even bots are better than me lol!
The most I got in one game on champ kills is 2. I mostly just get the assist since I cant make the last hit.
What's the point of having a level 30 account and playing on intermediate bots btw? Do they get more RP/IP than playing against people?
In the beginning of the game, its kinda hard to get the last kill from minions playing with higher level people since I have to wait for the minions to be maybe 10% health to be able to last kill shot them. Other players do not have to wait that low to get the last kill. Also those 3 games took like 45 mins each on average to complete. Its more challenging though. As a range, I really have to kite. I guess for leveling up, I'll stay at beginners until 15 or 20?
I watched a video about runes and he advised not to buy runes until I get to level 20 so I can unlock tier 3 and not waste currency? Will a low tier rune make a big difference and help me a lot in leveling? Can I replace a low level run once I activated it? And my runes are account-wide right?
Also saw a video of Katarina. Kinda like to try her but she's not available on the free champs. Reminds me of playing rogue in WoW.

Tier 2 runes cost 1 IP nowadays, just buy those and replace them at 30. Tier 3 runes are crazy expensive, you'd never be able to buy champs if you spent all of your IP on tier 3 runes. They don't help you level, just small stat boosts in game. The only thing that helps you level is EXP boosts which you have to buy with RP. Wouldn't recommend it for a new player because you're trying to learn the game anyway.
And I'm not sure I'd recommend Kat for a new player. She has a pretty steep learning curve, but try out her out whenever she is free. She's my most played champ by far this season because she is so much fun once you get the hang of it.

I never played WoW but as other people have also stated, I wouldn't recommend her to you as shes a bit difficult to learn right now. Not sure if you knew this, but if you go to the champions tab on your league client, you can click on their icon and it'll pop up some statistics like whether they're do attack/magic damage, meant to be a support, tank, etc, along with their "difficulty." The difficulty part can help you choosing easy champions to learn
Just dont have the mentality that harder champs are better. The more difficult champs are typically just more fun, but any champ can be used to climb up ranks if they are properly played

Zed, Leblanc, and Kat are probably the hardest assassins, but all 3 are extremely good in the right hands. Like brah above said, harder does not mean better, but I'll add that certain mechanics like high mobility allow good players to outplay weaker players so it does matter a little.

I guess I'm looking for high-burst, like in and out. I like how she can blink to where her dagger is or to the enemy champion. Only thing I notice is she doesn't have a CC skill.
I've been playing Ashe a lot so I just want to try some melee class and really eyeing Kat. I guess since I'm still lvl 10 and just playing bots, I'm not really thinking of ranked games yet. But there is a good chance that I'll stick with Ashe for that and just have fun with Kat. Thanks guys!

on another note, damn leveling a new account has a high amount of flamers and toxic players compared to ranked games. just lol at the amount of nub/report comments i see every game being thrown about in pvp. and the constant flaming in /all chat. funny how they expect everyone to be a pro and not to be a new player to the game.

This new jungle makes thing's much harder for a jungler. I've had games where I'll be lvl5 and our mid laner will be lvl 8. Haven't tried this yet but it appears that you have to tax the lane really hard regardless if you get a kill or sums. Before the jungle nerf I'd be ahead of everyone by 1-2 lvls pre 10 but now I'm behind 2/3.
For the new guy I say go for kat. Yes she will be hard for you to play and you'll have teammates screaming to uninstall but once you get the hang of her you're set. If you like a champ give them a try. My tip is unlock champs at multiple roles. If I were you I'd focus on unlocking chanps before you get rune page. At your level 15 armor and 15 ad won't save you lol

Excited for spring split to start! NA is going to be a closer race. Hopefully the first game of the split is Fly Quest (C9 Sr.) vs C9.

got to Plat I, I'm seeing Diamond borders all over the place… and holy **** I don't recall experiencing high toxicity since I was Silver.

-jhin gets cheesed when walking to lane, flames team for 10 minutes straight then afk's
