TGP is mostly 50yo sissy ****gets. I also joined the FM9 waitlist and it would be my first Fractal device. Really looking forward to it.

I made an Ultimate Guitar account awhile ago but I never use it. Misc is more entertaining and this thread is pretty good to be honest. You get a lot of elitists on guitar specific forums

Also look at this, who’s gonna wind up with this guitar

Not 50 and never had any problems there.

Much like 99.9% of the Misc I try to avoid sh*t threads over there.

Do you have any vids of your playing? I think Rollerball is the only one I’ve seen play aside from Wayne’s recent song

Hear me now, or else hear me later, after years of trying to get him to post, the likelihood of Dom posting vids is zero to none lol

Confession time: I didn't play for almost a year until a few weeks ago. I was in the process rewiring my pedalboard and… it got away from me. You guys are a lot more disciplined. Even though I bought a bunch of recording gear I just record audio on my phone and move on to the next idea. Not ideal by any means.

The main issue is nearly all of what I play these days is my own music and I don't want to upload something until it's finished. Calling myself a perfectionist sounds pretentious but I'm being honest — I have real issues with it. So I should just record myself playing other people's music and then I don't care what happens to it. Not intentionally trying to be cagey even if being a moderator did initially make me want to keep a lower profile. I did the same thing in the photography forum. Eventually I posted some of my work but it was like pulling teeth.

I think it also highlights a big flaw in the way I practice these days. I pick it up and play whatever I feel like. Not ideal. I should just work on playing songs until they're perfect and do a video.

I tend to be pretty perfectionist about my playing as well but it’s actually to my detriment as it keeps me from practicing diligently or writing actual music. When I play guitar I’m very much akin to a squirrel my attention wanders constantly.

I’ll usually jam over some backing tracks or play along with a song, but most of the time especially since I’m relegated to using amp sims on my computer I get frustrated trying to dial in a good tone then stop playing.

It’s like a maddening on/off cycle

But I personally think my playing is sub-par even still I occasionally post my playing on social media.

Hey Dom….

1) Agreed
Personally, I only post originals that are done….no demos or snippets.
Knowing that song writing is a very personal endeavor it takes some grit to post it up for others to hear.
We must accept the favorable comments and the critical ones which I would guess are more likely to be because the listener doesn't like the genre.
Not because of perceived technical/mixing flaws.
It takes me some time to get the courage to post up a new one.

2) That works too….helps with confidence.
To rollerballs comment….I don't have any videos of me playing originals.
My material is too involved.
But….for confidence reasons and to keep my rhythm chops up (and before my arthritic fingers seize up ) I have several YT videos where I just played rhythm guitar along with many of my favorites.
Plus, I figured they might help others who want to learn the same songs.
So….I thought, 'f..it'

CP & Dom….
I don't know the right words to convince you to cease with your thought's of 'perfection'.
I'd recommend not chasing it……it's very self defeating.
I'm trying to encourage you guys here….not chastise or lecture.

Carry on….

What weird synchronicity. I didn’t know the anniversary of Jimi’s death but I have been listening to Hendrix all day.

There's a big difference between posting your own stuff and posting little covers of solos and chit like I do. I'm doing paint-by-numbers bullchit where my biggest obstacle is red light fever.
Posting your own stuff is different, you're going to clearly have more of an intimate attachment with it and likely will be a lot more sensitive to criticism.

Writing music, for me, is a battle against option-overload and I rarely am able to commit and say with finality "this song is done". Instead it's usually an endless experimentation with different ideas, very few of which I actually shape into a distinct piece of music.

I'll try to post some **** up someday probably not a yt vid but maybe some sound clips.

I don't know how to record **** and to learn to do so seems counterproductive when I should be learning guitar

I posted some clips on the telecaster forum using a voice recorder on my phone and SoundCloud that worked ok tho

I think a low wind humbucker in the neck of a Tele would sound great. More like a fatter single coil tone with no hum.

I've just been looking at the prices of gear on ebay and Reverb. Truly sickening. I feel sorry for anyone starting out today who thinks they need to spend a fortune on gear. Ed played an Ibanez Destroyer and partscasters on VH's best albums yet kids today would be trying to convince parents to spend thousands on his signature gear.

I kinda like the whole dual humbucker tele thing, I'm hoping it would still retain some of that "woody" tone I associate with teles. Either a dual humbucker tele or a strat with humbucker in the bridge position will likely be my next electric.

I'm assuming the prices are higher than normal due to shortages and whatnot?
