Don't unless you need the money now, or weren't planning on holding long term anyway.

i dont need it now but im reading some articles about the whole cutting losses thing, which ive never really done before, and its sort of resonating with me

a lot of them say cut losses if it goes lower than 7% of your buy in price. mine are at >15 now

then others say 'would you buy the same stock at the current price'

and to that, seeing the current market sentiment, no i probably wouldn't

tech is on a crazy discount atm, and it still can't hold even 1 good day - despite being in some cases over 50% off from ATHs. to me thats not a good sign

I can understand that. But that's why you should have a gameplan for each stock before you buy it, and stick to it religiously. For example, just like you said, if a certain stock goes down x%, I'm engaging a stop-loss and selling (or buying more if it's within your comfort zone and feel that it is still worth more). If it goes up x%, I'm taking some profits. But that needs to be laid out beforehand.

Me personally, I'm mostly in index funds, so nothing crazy. My few individual stocks are all tech and growth lol. So I feel ya.

yeah, those were the mistakes i made. i think im done with individual stocks, apart from 2 extremely high conviction plays im currently in. its just going to be those and index from now on.

when it was an 8% loss, i was like ill hold because i dont need money now etc.

same with 12, then 14

but now im thinking enough is enough..?

what if i said i'd buy it, i'd just set a really tight stop loss?

the stuff im talking about is down so much, its worth taking a punt on at current prices

the difference is of course it isn't a fresh position and i could just be compounding losses

It doesn’t sound like you believe in the stock long term, maybe just stay away from it?

the stocks im talking about which im down on are speculative IPO plays lol - i think they have a chance, but i got in way too high

at current prices, theyre much better valued. im thinking chuck a small amount at them with a really tight stop loss

sell half… do whatever you want to do with that half (index, stocks, ira, etc) and then if that plays out better for you after 3 months then move the rest.
