-2023 firearms related goal:

I’m going to take care of the vision issue in my dominant/shooting eye this year. My prescription shooting glasses cannot correct the vision well enough any longer…and I have them “maxed out”.

I like that newer tech that has a circle "halo" in the optical that lets you know if you are aiming high, low, left or right, by showing you part of the circle in the frame to let you know where you need to adjust you aim to lock onto the dot. Any guys have experience with this model? Wasn't this a Halosun product?
Trijicon RMR or Holosun 508T

Not sure if typo or if you haven't researched when you say Holosun with RMR.

I think you are simply asking about the reticles that have an outer circle to give you more reference, that is a Holosun. Trijicon has nothing other than the singular dot on anything. Might be referring to the Holosun Vulcan reticle

You didn't buy an AR because you didn't like the pistol grip? Is this a troll?

Attend one high level course per year. High level meaning taught by industry leaders with serious experience in the area they're teaching. Will likely require traveling out of state and not wait for someone to come locally.

I have a long range course scheduled in the spring. It was originally scheduled a couple months ago but had to push it back so I still want to take a different course next year.

Thats it…. the ACSS Vulcan Reticle (Holosun HS507C-X2 Pistol Red Dot Sight - Primary Arms). Any experience with these as far as helping to get on target quicker…..or a gimmick?
Noted on the backup iron sites….definitely want to upgrade to iron sights.

Specifically, I need some work shooting in the wind, and my clothing system needs more flexibility. This last year we had rain/sleet in the 35-to 45-degree temperature range (with some wind), and I wasn't ready. Made for a long, wet day.

For now, more ammo and shoot more, probably some training, and will look for a good shoulder holster.

Glock generations:

My first gun (owned, fired, carried) was a Gen 3 Glock.

My only semi auto pistol for 4 years was that one Glock. My only semi auto pistol s , well, until after Gen4 Glocks came out were…Gen 3 Glocks.

Most of my professional firearms training, hours and days wise, came with a Gen 3 Glock in my hands.

I still own that first one for sentimental purposes, but, it's the only Gen 3 Glock I haven't sold and moved on. Gen 4 and 5 are both simply better IMO. I prefer the 5 but my 4's aren't going anywhere either.

The one and only thing Gen3 might have going for it is if you have one from the right age range to get the frying pan slide finish that a lot of guys like (it is a tst finish)

I haven't had my hands on one with that reticle. Don't worry about that is the short version. Dot or circle dot is fine.

Aero Ar-10 Battle Rifle complete upper and lower just came in.

Love it. Gonna use it as a markman's sniper rifle. Very versatile but can also go long range prolly up to 800 yards. Chambered in .308

Alright gents, what's everyone using holster wise? Looking to get a level 2 OWB holster for my P320 XCarry w/ TLR-1 setup. Preferable with a thumb lock. Any recommendations?

I like safariland: https://safariland.com/collections/duty-holsters

I don’t carry OWB often, mostly just at the range. I use the level 1 that is released with a thumb lever. It’s secure but releases quickly

I only have two holsters right now. An IWB from Alien Gear for concealed carry, and an OWB from Wilson Combat for competition.

I should probably pick up a tactical style holster, but I’ve been too lazy.

IWB: JM Custom Kydex (tons of choices though)

OWB: Safariland (really the beginning and end of this list IMO)

Now, to me, OWB = open carry or less-concealed carry, so security is paramount. For competition IMO one should generally use a good active retention OC/duty level holster, or true concealment. But I'm of a mind that competition should at least somewhat pretend to be practically relevant to something other than competition so open top holsters with full size race guns purely for the sake of competition just isn't something that overly interests me and if you're interested in that, go watch some competitors and find out what they use 'cause that's a different little world than the street/daily life

My CYA IWB fits like a glove on my EDC

On a sidenote i filled in my slide with a subtle color using the credit card method and IMO it kind of looks sloppy.

I'm glad i didn't use white it would have stuck out like a sore thumb.

Best is a really hard term to work with.

Check out the SiCo Omega 300

Do a ton of your own research. There really isn't a best. For some people quiet is best, others weight or flash suppression is or length or QD or DT or a compromising combination.

Saw this setup mentioned and used on t Rex arms. Would this be good for a home defense/shtf setup as well as range use? For range use, I think for now I'm just going to focus on up to 500 yards. So I might actually just build another AR-15.

You can flip the magnifier out of the way, effectively just being able to use the red dot. Would this setup be good to cover short and relatively long distance?

i think with this optic, the limiting factor will be your barrel length (CQB setups usually run shorter short barrels like 10.5")
I appreciate the input.

For now I'm deciding between building a better 16" AR-15, or maybe experimenting with an AR-10 build. However an AR-15 build would cover both of those bases for me better. I was considering an AR-10 if I wanted to have a bias towards longer range/hunting and shooting .308 for that reason. I'll probably end up with the 15, I'm just very indecisive lol.

Anyone use the mantis system? Want to get some dry fire practice in on my g43x. I'm relatively new to guns - and I find myself shooting low and to the left with it at the range. I can shoot fine with larger handguns though. I'm probably flinching just a bit and causing the aim to be off.
