I have a Canon 6D and if I wasn't so invested in Canon, I wouldn't mind picking up a d750 or 800, something around there. Especially because most of my friends shoot Nikon.

Unless you're doing any high end work, though, it's not going to matter which brand you go for the average photography hobbiest. You won't use your cameras full potential unless you're stretching boundaries with things like astrophotography (or any low light photography at that), weddings, or high speed photography. But even then, the 6D focuses like a sloth. Gotta love that 11point AF and no cross sensors lol.

Most of the 2000s. By 2008 Nikon had started to turn things around (D3, D300, D700, D3x) but had no answer to the 5Dmk2 for nearly 4 years. That is if you wanted more than 12mp on FX you were expected to drop $7K on a D3x.

Now when you look at the range they've got all bases covered. They've also plugged all the gaps in their lineup of primes.

Bottom line is competition is great for consumers.

I agree if you can't get the shot with either brand the problem is you and not the camera but the "ISOless" sensors Sony and Fuji are producing definitely make life easier when you're trying to squeeze the maximum DR out of a raw file or you screwed up the exposure and need to salvage something from it. Canon have some work to do there.

Very true. I'm really excited to see what the future of mirrorless holds. It's growing incredibly fast.

I have the 6D also and have never really had any focus issues such as slothing.

But I do agree about the cross type because in some VERY RARE occasions, I wish I had more cross type but for my shooting focus being urban exploring, I really don't need more focus points or so many cross type because everything is really shot at f8 or higher and focus time is not a big area of concern.

I would STRONGLY suggest L series lenses (if you can afford them). If L Series glass is an issue check out the Sigma ART line. Very good optics…

Looking at investing money into a B&W F Pro UV Filter for my canon 24-70 2.8II lens. Anyone recommend this filter? I am not big on putting glass in front of my lens BUT with me going into abandoned buildings I want some level of protection for it.

Any other UV Filters for recommendation are also welcome!!

Good idea mate…last time I took a camera into an abandoned building, I needed a sensor cleaning stat.

B&W is a good company…go for it.

This reminds me, I need to find the next free cleaning event happening in NYC and get my sensor there…so many dirty spots!

Even if you have it professionally cleaned or bust out the swabs and do it yourself it's not going to stay that way for long so I don't bother.

Rocket air blower and built-in sensor cleaner are all I use. With Capture One Pro I can shoot an "LCC" reference frame at the aperture I'll be shooting at and the dust spots are automatically removed.

I would not switch my x-pro2 and set of primes for anything right now BUT I'm jelly of Canon's touch screen and dual pixel af.

Awesome shots… seemed to get better every picture.

In other news I gotta bring my 50 1.4 lens in. The autofocus just randomly stopped working. Was just gonna leave it since 99% of my shots are with manual focus but I was reading eventually the manual focus stops working if you just leave it
Might just bring it my camera at the same time and get them to clean the sensor for me.

For the past 10 years I've only owned full frame DSLRs but a D500 looks extremely tempting. Would have to be the best all round DSLR.
I'm almost tempted to jump over to Nikon and get the 810. I've got a bit of money invested in my Canon gear but if I sell it all I'll most likely only lose like $500.

Looks like a pretty straightforward job. Even if you don't want to attempt it yourself at least you'll know what they're doing to it.

Terrible phone picture, but brought the Nikon along.

Hopefully get to process them next weekend, hitting up some 14ers in Colorado this weekend.

Beautiful shots btw. As for the question, it's worth learning and there are actions available that automate the process. For night photography and sunrise/sunset shots where you need more precise control over highlights I think it would benefit you. Just my 2 cents but beyond a certain point it starts to look unrealistic. You brain seems to be saying "this looks a little too good to be true."

Of course there are no rules. For example I see a lot of night shots where the Milky Way is bursting out of sky. Anyone who's ever been under a night sky somewhere remote knows it doesn't look like that. Ditto for a landscape under a full moon looking like it's high noon with stars. A little artistic license with a two dimensional medium to compensate for not being there and to appease the "this print looks too dark" crowd is fine but some people take it too far for my taste.

You know I was going to clone it out and then I decided I liked it lol. Kind of makes me have that in the forest feeling from the front yard.

I follow Mike Kelley a lot, so yes, it was a similar technique. It was if I remember right like 19 layers or so.

I use them religiously. I would make it easier and buy an action panel though. I use TKActionPanel v4 and it's amazing. I believe its like $30-40?

Sounds like a lot of work. The result is definitely worth it however I'd pull back the sky a bit to make it look more natural.

My brain is telling me it looks too early in the evening for the light around the house to be that bright. It's like when a scene with water in it has a sky that is darker than the reflection. It looks beautiful but something doesn't seem right. Just my 2 cents.
