Same core, actually. But Crown was always known to be a weak laner (which is why he was mostly on Malzahar duty when they won) while Ambition, who was arguably their strongest player last year, had tapered off quite a bit.

Weird because Crown was getting credit for locking down Faker in the Regional. But man Gen G.'s teamfights were non-existent. I remember them being godly last year.

Just mentioning Faker makes me realize I miss SKT at worlds. It's not the same without them .

IG has lost twice to RNG in their domestic playoffs.

Impact is fine and will count as a domestic resident soon which means TL can import someone in the mid lane or bot lane (probably kick Olleh). The issue is Pobelter is massively outclassed in the international scene and Impact isn't a great carry top player so TL is basically a Walmart RNG.

KT Rolster is probably the favorite now after RNG looked suspect today. Amazing performances by Vitality and C9; shame C9 lost the tiebreaker. They might end up having to play against say KT Rolster which would be tragic.

Wouldn't it be something if only KT Rolster made it out of group stages out of the 3 Korean teams? I'd expect Afreeca + KT to make it out though when it's all said and done.

Gap is closing? I’d say yes

Every year plenty of western teams play significantly under expectations (tam last year for example) and people chalk it up as the west is playing their best but the Koreans/Chinese are just so much better

Well you can apply the same logic this year when people are saying lck teams and lpl teams are choking

C9 has solidified themselves as the best western team, over the years, behind fanatic.

It’s goes to show that the western teams that play to their strengths instead of copying eastern strats tend to do well. Following that logic, I think going forward, western teams should only scrim each other to prevent eastern teams from blatantly leaking all scrim results to each other

Every year it seems the western teams only beat China/Korean teams when they play they're own style yet every year they still try to conform to what the east is doing. Maybe now they'll learn.

TL most likely won't make it through. You need a solid midlaner and Pob is their weak link and other than Galio there isn't really a midlane "safe pick."

Is the gap actually closing, or is it because Riot changed the game so the gap can only be so big to begin with?

I feel like if it were seasons 3-6, Asia would still be tearing the West apart. But maybe I'm wrong and the West actually is better. I just can't help but think that it's the nature of the game now and not our increased level of play.

I dunno. I really don't think the changes, for the most part, made it harder for good teams to excel. There were times this season where 1 ace ends the game at 20min and that just helps the better team.

reapered is really good at pick/bans. Arguable the best p/b coach at worlds. G2 is pretty good at 1-3-1 and have a 100% winrate with heimer. Combine that with the east not looking that clean

G2 looked pretty joocy today. Thank god for the viets tryharding and putting FW in that tiebreak

Hopefully dlift doesn't choke tomorrow. It will come down to EDG vs TL, which could easily go either way.

So far none of the Asian teams are looking unbeatable. First time in years

Probably not, both the S5 and S6 world metas were straight cancer, revolving around braindead champions being OP picks and S6 specially being conductive towards turtling and scaling. What has happened is that Western players and orgs (as well as China) now have had years of watching and learning from the best Korea has to offer. That LCK imports are often subpar in NA/EU goes to show that the difference is not really being the best individual player, but being able to work as 5 and make the right decision on the fly all the time. Not-as-good squads still get smashed quickly.

KT is playing a notch or two above everyone else, but their whole history has been about disappointing their fans… will be interesting to see if they finally come up clutch.

Some people were claiming the new meta is what dampened the impact of payers like Bjerg and Faker. I definitely noticed the shift towards solid team fights and insane macro, which is what Galaxy did so well last year at worlds.

I still don’t blame tsm for being proactive and dropping doublelift. He isn’t capable of getting out of groups because he’s the biggest choker of the west

Sure it didn’t work out for tsm(yet) but at least they didn’t settle with mediocrity

Dlift may be a choker, but he played well in groups. Honestly Pob and xmithie are lacking in synergy, and made a number of really bad calls.

C9 is NA's only hope now, but imo they are weaker than TL and got lucky that genG choked.

Any1 else think KT let EDG win that game just to knock NA out?

Ye was just trying to stir up conspiracies. Keeping the finals all-Asian at all cost uknow?

I feel like pro league would actually be really hard to intentionally throw games in…casters notice 99% of tiny misplays, so it would be super suspicious if there's a huge cs deficit or blatant lack of positioning, etc.
