as a comparison what would a 556 subsonic (for a suppressor) have energy wise? I'm no expert on ballistic energy transfer but I would think it's even less.

7.62x39 is so amazing that the Russians made they're own version of 5.56 back is '74 and have used it to this day.

Let that sink in.

.223 subsonic never took off because .22 LR exists.

Also because having a big air space inside the cartridge isn't great for reliability.

so basically less ballistic energy than the subsonic 300blk. I know 22 travel distance is impressive…but the put down/ballistic energy eh. Basically a small game round at that point.

All things considered the subsonic/suppressed 300 "should" have more ballistic and put down power than the subsonic 556…but its a hot topic.

If I'd want a rifle and shoot it with a can (with subs) I feel both calibers have their negatives…yet we all want the pros of using a can. Which brings me back to thinking 300blk subs and using a can is better option.

tbh I never see 223 subs, probably for the reason you stated, but google tells me they make 112gr 556 subs.
idk what you'd do with that round, or a 22lr sub, other than shoot rats in the garage.

In conclusion, I agree that it is 22lr (sub) in that they are, at best, extremely niche.

112gr 556 makes more sense than the ~60 grain rounds tbh. Didn't know those were out there.

55 gr 5.56 works due to its velocity. Velocity is key to create that huge temporary wound cavity.

Wouldn’t sub sonic 112gr be less effective than a 9 mm pistol round?

it does, but that's close to 380 acp territory (which has a place but not in an AR imo). I'd go 300blk for subs. About the same as 45 acp but have the flexibily for supers.

Illinois likely to pass AWB with the new year. Coinciding with the SAFE-T act (LOL).

So… we are required to register "assault" weapons with the state. $25 fee.

Any mag over ten rounds is instantly banned.

Plus more but these are the major points.

Like wtf dude……sick of this ****.

your rifles are grandfathered in if you register them. but we all know they will just change their minds after they have their list. look at whats happening in Connecticut. you cannot keep the mags.

subsonic blackout weighs 220gr so it looks like they thought of that. However, subsonic x39 is also around 200 gr. I'd probably go that route now that I think about it more. 45acp is perfect for pdw subsonic suppressed though.

All subsonic ball ammo is for training and range fun.

The is some nasty subsonic 300 blk expanding defense/hunting ammo though. Stuff that the military didn't have when they were toying with 300 blk in the field.
