Just ordered one of these . I have an L-bracket on my cameras and for a while now I've wanted for a simple strap I can quickly disconnect when I switch to my tripod. Did some research answering a question for someone and helped myself in the process.

I really like the fact there's really only one point of failure and if you torque down on that clamp it won't move.

I've been using OP/TECH straps for years and they're great but even when disconnected there's still a few inches of strap connected to the strap eyelets. You can connect them together to make a small hand strap but I'd still prefer nothing at all when mounted on the tripod. Don't want anything flapping around or worse getting caught on something.

Canon purposefully neuters their cameras to protect their cinema line. Everyone seems really happy with Panasonic for video.

Post some test footage once you get it!

That's a sweet setup but already impulse bought the GX8. It has all the same features (mic input, flip screen etc.) and great reviews so I think it'll be awesome.

Any lens recs for micro four thirds? I got it with the 12-60mm so pretty big range, seems to cover everything already lol.

Good choice for 4k.

I highly suggest you save up and but the Metabones Speedbooster XL

it will make tons of glass so much more usefull and faster.

for example a 50 f1.4 will become f1.2 and instead of 100mm its 75mm just like APSC.

Looks amazing. But is it worth it if I don't already have an arsenal of impressive lenses? All I have is a T3i, kit lens 18-55mm, and 50mm 1.8. But was probably going to sell it with getting the GX8. Not sure it's worth paying all that for the Speedbooster and Canon lenses when I could use that money for lenses that already fit. If I did have lenses this would be a no brainer.

A99II announced. 12fps at 42.4mp, 4k full pixel readout, probably great dynamic range… Sh*ts all over the 5D4.

Competition is a great thing. Canon and Nikon had the market to themselves for so long. Charge whatever they wanted. Take as long as they liked for pro features to trickle down to the more affordable models.

I still think Nikon will use this 42mp sensor in the successor to the D810. It'll probably be limited to 7fps, maybe 8 if they want to one up Canon, but where it will take a steaming dump on the Sony and Canon is AF. They drop some D5 Multi-CAM 20K magic into it and it will go to the head of the class.

Sony has no chance against Canon or Nikon in the professional DSLR market.

Stick to mirrorless and making sensors.

Sony has the world's worst customer service (other than samsung) and support. i cant imagine them competing against CPS or NPS in the pro dslr game.

Hnnnggg. They always made cool MF rangefinders and also actually made the hassy 645 cameras. Really great to see them and pentax are still in the MF game.

Don't be too quick to switch if you need speed and autofocus, these cameras will make the 5Dmk2 focus look good.

Fujifilm says it has set a price target "way under $10,000" for GFX 50S plus the GF63mm lens and the default viewfinder in the box.

Problem I see with jumping ship is this thing is going to be slow and probably not great in the AF department.

Fine for landscapes but when you've hiked for hours to a location and decide you also want to photograph some wildlife you'll probably want another camera. So that means carrying two systems.

A 42mp Nikon that shoots around 7fps with a slightly watered down D5 AF system + 4K video would appeal to me more since it could cover all bases.

What's the best all purpose camera in the $1,000 price point in 2016 for someone who wants to learn/become a hobbyist?

I was going to buy a Canon 7D a few months ago, but I keep hearing about mirrorless. Is that the way to go?

imo mirrorless is good but if your starting off and learning. a good dslr with support accessories is far nicer.

something like a canon 70d.
1. Good autofocus
2. worlds best video autofocus.
3. touch flip out tilty screen
4. wifi
5. excellent ergonomics.
6. Canon glass (far superior to anything mirrorless) in selection and quality.

Nice product but at $500 is ridiculously overpriced.

There are clones out there sold under various brands for around $100 but I've noticed Yongnuo offers one for $80. Add the battery and charger for $30 and it's a fifth of the price.

Agreed with Dom. The idea behind ICE light is great but way overpriced considered how good some of the chinese clones for 1/4 of the price.

Buy canon or nikon. Otherwise it really doesn't matter much - if you are keen you'll end up replacing it and any lenses anyway.

Think hard about if you want to lug around an slr though, there is nothing magic or 'serious' about them anymore. I know so many people that have bought them over similar but more expensive mirrorless cameras and have never used them much because they can't be bothered carrying them. The best camera is one you will actually use and take with you.
