There's no wrong entry level system any more. They all produce fantastic results. My biased opinion would push towards a fuji X-t10/x-e2, a canon t6i or an Olympus OMD-EM10ii (or a panasonic g7 if you are really into video).
All of them are fantastic and all have a healthy choice of lenses (fuji lenses being more expensive than the rest)

I prefer an optical viewfinder and like the extra weight and size of a DSLR with larger lenses like a 70-200 2.8. It feels more balanced. A gripped DSLR just feels better in my hands than a little toy sized camera. Show me a mirrorless camera from Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, etc. with AF that performs as well as a semi-pro or pro Canon or Nikon.
Battery life is no contest. I shot 12 hour weddings with a single D3 battery in my D700. Probably be lucky to get a couple of hours with mirrorless. I wonder how many shots are missed while changing batteries and how much time is spent looking at the battery indicator instead of following the action.
Not knocking mirrorless, it has its place, but I'm not buying into all the hype and the BS that they render DSLRs obsolete. And DSLRs are still better value for money.

I mentioned it mostly because I encounter so many n00bs that insist they MUST have a dslr to be ‘serious’ and all too often these just get left at home because of the size which is sad.

The whole mirrorless is smaller and more portable loses all merit once you put together a proper kit.
For example lets say you shoot weddings like Dom pointed out.
You have an a7rii.
Sure the body is small compared to a 5dmark4.
Now you need atleast 4-5 batteries because each battery takes around 250 shots.
1 5d lpe6 takes over 1500 shots.
Then you need pro glass.
24 70 and 70 to 200.
Physics cant be defeated. 24 70 on full frame is same size regardless of mirrorless or dslr. Its simply optics and physics
A sony 24 70 f2.8 is the same ****ing size as a canon 24 to 70.
Now you have a mirrorless tiny body with a massive pro zoom. You wrists will be dead from the imbalance.
You still pro flash. Again physics dictate how big your flash will be. A sony flash is the same ****ing size as a canon pro flash.
Now you have kit with 2 zooms and **** ton of batteries and accesories.
What did you really save?

my quick edit on the phone
i recovered the shadows(from jpegs its ****) and color tone and curves.
also some of the redness in her face.
your photo is good exposure, excellent composition.
working with models is very subjective. for all i know she has a ****ty smile hence the neutral look.

Ironically, also had a chance to hold Icelight.
results are interesting.
Icelight is more ergonomic, battery is built in, whereas yonguos isn't, and sticks out all kinds of wonky.
This said, Icelight puts out less light. Both have a fairly balanced light; Icelight offers incandescent and 5500k light, yonguo also offers RGB LED options.
can't wait for some portrait work to try it out more.

I think most of the time you get what you pay for but $500 is really stretching it. It should be around half that but Jerry Ghionis has bills to pay.

Apologies all, I've been terrible about participating in this thread, and haven't had my camera out in months until yesterday.
Went to an air show yesterday though so I thought I'd share a few of the pictures. Any critique is appreciated. Shot with a T3i and 100-400

If anyone is interested the OMD-EM1 and the 12-40mm 2.8 combo is selling for $1300 pretty much wherever photography is sold. Seems to me like a great way to get started with photography (and makes me wonder if I should finally sell my x100t)

speaking of photography deals. the best part of canon releasing their 5dmkiv is the idiots fireselling their old gear.
Picked up this OU date code (2015) 24-105L for $400.

"getting creative" with lighting, at the tree that is my muse when I'm bored.
you guys remember that tree, right?
first time trying out my new radio remote release, and it worked flawlessly.
took me a relaxed 20 minutes. I should have got one years ago.

Whats up guys, haven't posted in here for ages. What's everyone been shooting.
Only shooting 2.8 zooms defeats the whole point of shooting mirrorless imo.
Size for carrying around isn't the only reason to go mirrorless either. Helps with documentary-style shooting tremendously. I shoot loads of nice candids with my X-T10 & 18mm around my neck using the flip screen because using mirrorless helps you blend in rather than lugging around massive DSLR's with huge white lenses & red rings on that everyone spots from a mile off.

(got more than what's there too, they're just a few featured galleries). Albeit for 1-2 of those I borrowed a 50-140mm 2.8, but that's only 1 large lens, and even then I only did because the option was there - I didn't need to. I carry a Billingham Hadley Pro for weddings and all the above fits in there fine with 6 batteries & a charger too and isn't too heavy really.

Mirrorless needs to push the small size atm since in af, responsiveness, vf etc. they still lag behind dslrs. Once this gets close I think we'll see some proper pro cameras designed to be dslr killers that don't have tiny grips and buttons.
