I was actually at the station with my Dad this weekend. Got to spray the nozzle while they did the over hauling in the house. Was fun as fawk and can't wait to really be doing it.

They were accepting people until September 1st. It seems like no one wants to hire my buddy because he isn't from that town or state. 6 years experience in local volunteer FD isn't good enough I suppose..

Most places want you to be already certified. Dallas self trains is the reason why I got hired on because I'm not certified at all. Just have Fire Science Degree.

Ah, makes sense. My cousin signed up last week for the local FD. They told him it will take about 2 months to go through all the paper work and tests, and then 4 1/2 months training at the academy.

It will take about 6 months of EMT and Fire training for me, and then another 6 months of Paramedic training. Then another year on probabtion before I'm free and clear and at a station. So this is only the begining.
