anyway 2050 will come and we'll all still be miscing and loling about this scare.

everyone will say "oh no dawg this is different cuz science.' and i agree it is concerning. but we'll figure it out.

there is also no point worrying about it unless you actually plan to do something about it.

legit can't remember the last time I took an anti biotic. I was likely 10 years old. i know it's in food, but eh, do whatever you can to increase your odds.

Also gonorrhea will go away on its own if left untreated long enough in those with a normal immune system. There are multiple modern documented cases stupid fuks

This **** should scare you if you're an infant or over 50 only. And if you're over 50 why the fuk do you want to live any longer anyway.
Wow great anecdotal evidence. You split your hand open and didn't die from an infection, therefore antibiotic resistance isn't going to be a problem. You realize it's a numbers game. If say 0.5-1% of people who get serious cuts get an infection, then those people will need antibiotics. Now think of how many people world wide will get serious cuts in a year, and now imagine all those people can't be treated by antibiotics and will likely die. And we're just talking about cuts here. This has huge implications for other things like surgery since you're cutting people open for long periods of time.

Just lol at people who think this is just some scaremongering sh*t. And developing new antibiotics isn't really a great solution since it's inevitable that bacteria will develop resistance.

I haven't read all the responses ITT but get a rough idea.

It does make sense all this & people saying that if this does happen, then goodbye to surgery, childbirth etc becuase people will die from the resulting infection.

One question, and not coming off as you're all idiots, but can someone then explain how people have been giving birth and having surgery on them without antibiotics afterwards and surviving. I know the death rate was higher back then because the lack of it, but we have managed to make it this far without them

I can confirm.

My doctor prescribed me zpack (antibitocs) for a cough on Jan 19,2016. I been having Diarrhea and GI issues since then. I have done a colonoscopy and I came out good on Chrons, Colitis, & c diff. I Wish I never taken those antibitocs. I went from 200lbs to 170s . I don't even lift anymore because of my diarrhea

The future isn't a bleak as you make it out to be.

New antibiotics aren't necessary. It's the science of how/when/what to use current antibiotics.

And it's one of the fastest growing fields, particularly with recent integration with computer programs (like Time Machine SW) that direct evolutionary phenotypes.

The biggest hurdle is going to be educating future physicians, who as of now, prescribe broad spectrum antibiotics like candy.
"Seen in the light of evolution, biology is, perhaps, intellectually the most satisfying and inspiring science. Without that light it becomes a pile of sundry facts -- some of them interesting or curious but making no meaningful picture as a whole."

is this such a big deal because the fear is this will propagate quickly to other strains? making other strains antibiotic resistant as well..?

because aids still isn't curable, and while it is a problem its not like 99% of the population is dying from aids
