In2014(the most recent data available from the FBI) handguns were the weapon of choice in 5,562 homicides. All rifles, including the ever-s-deadly AR-15 "assault machine gun rifle" were used in a measly 248 homicides.

So this tells me 2 things.

1) There are a bunch of sick and twisted people who only want to potentially "save" 248 lives when they could save 5,562 lives, and

2) If this was truly about saving lives the gun grabbers wouldn't be going after the AR-15. Instead, they would be going after hammers and clubs since they were used in 435 homicides.

Handguns are much harder to shoot and their bullets will in many cases penetrate walls and other building materials more than a .223.

Its actually safer in many instances for someone to defend themselves with an AR than a handgun.
