On October 13, 1307 King Phillip of France ordered the arrest of all Knights Templar in his realm (France). This was an absolute mind boggling event for the time given that the Templars had been around for nearly 200 years with essentially free reign over themselves. Did you know pirates didn't wear I patches because they were missing one eye? They wore them so that one eye was constantly adjusted to darkness, this meant that when they went into the cabin/under the deck they would swap the eye patch to the other eye so that they could see with the already adjusted eye.

Not even sure if this is true or not but it does make sense.
