I tell my GF this all the time. it's just an incredibly expensive party for a bunch of people you don't really like anyways that you have when you sign a best friends forever contract with the state.

To be honest that is a recipe for a wank life. Most seem to be living the DINK life though (dual income no kids). Things seem to go south when kids arrive.
For the people that complain about the cost of the wedding, well I thought you all made 10k a day anyway? So why does it bother you? Yes it can cost a few quid but so what, unless you're a poor kunt then who gives a chit?
I am happy. Good luck to the unhappy people out there, hope it all works out for you.

let me help you younger guys out with something. no matter what a woman does before marriage she will slow down or stop doing after marriage. she's only doing wild sex stuff and pretending to like your bullsh*t to get a ring. once you get that ring, you'll wonder where the lingerie and random blowjobs went.
every woman is crazy and every last one of them will take you for granted after an amount of time. and if you think leaving your woman for ANOTHER woman is the answer, remember - they are all crazy and the new car smell of sex goes away and youre back at square one.
Marriage is an institution for women that benefits women if it doesnt work out - they can take you to court and get your things and financial support after the fact. remember that.

Like everything it has its pluses and minuses but overall it's worth it if you are with the right person.
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

You don't have to be a bad statistic though. Lots of people get married for garbage reasons.

if you're not religious, i don't see the upside versus just dating her forever. what sort of woman requires a legal contract to stay with someone she "loves"?

I question anyone that supposedly "luvs" someone that would abandon that person because they didn't want to have a party and a gov't contract.

About to file for divorce, but there are two children involved. Never in a million years did I think I'd divorce in their teenage years. But he went through a mid life crisis ran up almost 30,000 in debt while on steroids because I was no longer in love with him for past drug abuse. I'm trying to stick in it, so my children don't find out what he has done to our family, and give them two parents, but they feel the air in the house. And, it's killing me on the inside. I never want them to know their father is the reason cars and college may never happen for them, but they will eventually find out when in a year or so when I can't get them a car.

Currently going through a divorce, with a 10 month old son. It sucks. Debated "staying in it for the kid" but refused to let my ex-wife's view as "normal" behavior between us set an example for my son of what to expect/how to treat people in life. I figured he'd be better off seeing us love him separately and happy rather than together and miserable. This way my time with him is my time and has way less rules/strings on it than if i had stuck with her.
Be with someone for who they are, not for who you think they can become.
People make a lot of assumptions that their spouse will "change/mature" to become more of a person they want them to be as they grow older. Don't count on it.

We were together for a long time before we got married. We earn about the same and no kids so no real financial implications I think.
I've definitely grown less attracted to my wife as she has got older and I'm around her all the time so for me, that is more or less inevitable. I've been with plenty of other girls and I always got sexually bored of them.
Sometimes I feel like we don't have as much in common as I would like but I'm not sure if there are other girls I would have a lot in common with.
I don't feel I'm missing out sleeping with other girls cos I got most of that out of my system and I'm no ladykiller so it's not like I would be nailing girls left right and center if I were single.
I do love her a lot though and we have been through very good and bad times together.
I don't regret getting married. I'm glad I didn't get married young.
There are times when we have argued and one of us has threatened divorce and I get kind of a sick feeling until we make it up again, like I can't really relax.

I would advise brahs not to get married. There's no real upside. There wasn't really one for me but she is traditional Catholic so that was the main reason. But no massive downside for me either, financially at least.
My wife is just a year or two younger than me. I don't find many women in lateish thirties as attractive as really young (not too young) sloots. But I wouldn't be banging those sloots anyway.
Wife is super loyal and has supported me through a lot.
I generally enjoy spending time with her but wish I had more guy friends to hang out with (no homo).
Couldn't find a more decent girl with strong values but I have to admit I am somewhat intrigued by the free spirit, hippyish types. Not sure they're good marriage material though.
I could probably see myself being totally sick of marriage at some point down the line. Still not convinced two human beings were supposed to spend like 40 years together and never have sex with other people.
So I'm pretty happy but it's a stable happiness not a whirlwind passion sort of happiness. Which is ok with me at this stage in my life.
I've been lucky. As I say I see what a lot of friends have to put up with in their marriages and it's absolutely fukking astounding. Blows my mind that the guys haven't either topped themselves or killed their wives. It's gruesome in many cases.
I still don't really believe in marriage or monogamy as principles but am happy enough to go along with it at this point.
I guess I wish we both had our own independent social circles, that would be much better. And maybe some hobbies in common. We used to run together but we're both average for our genders so naturally I'm a lot faster than her. She really likes outdoorsy stuff (hiking, etc - and is genuinely into it, not just the claim all sloots make) and I guess I'm more into film, books, music. We try to strike a balance. She went to Sonar with me recently and in return I'll go on some hiking holiday with her.
Hope I've given an honest answer. As I say during the worst arguments I've had the desire to smack her but am sure she's probably wanted to smack me too.
There's really little upside for me though. Nothing much changed after marriage compared to before. I did it cos as I said she's traditional and it made her happy. We had a very cheap but fun wedding but I did spend a decent amount on the ring. That pissed me off. I wanted her to be one of those girls that think diamond engagement rings are stupid. But she isn't and doesn't.
I sometimes wonder if it will last, I really don't know. I sound indifferent but at the same time I would die for her in an instant.
Sorry for the long posts. Marriage has certainly completely ruined some men. I would never, ever marry a woman less educated than me and earning significantly less money. I spent a fair amount of time in Asia and saw many Western guys in finance pulling in a couple hundred thou easily who basically married peasant girls. Every single such marriage has been a disaster. The women have zero respect for the guys and are driven purely by money. Plus in the country I was in the sloots would get knocked up ASAP then threaten the guy with never seeing their child again unless they agreed to pay exorbitant 'child support' payments.
Generally these guys were marrying younger women though. Younger but not attractive in my eyes.

Expect to see more arrangements where women are the breadwinners.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

My wife is awesome, only downside I have is not being able to go after and smash new chicks which isnt a big deal since she puts out at least 4 times a week.
Let me explain why my married life does not suck at all.
Has a great job as an exec accountant and makes, with bonuses, around 3-5 times what I make so we use her income to invest, screw around and travel while I cover the bills. She has no social media, none. Barely watches TV unless its with me. She was born on a farm in poland so she is the most non-materialist female I have ever met while being extremely driven and hard working. She hates to spend the money she worked so hard to get, unless its for me. She LOVES having a clean house and is almost cleaning because she finds it relaxing. She LOVES to cook for me. Damn woman has made going out anywhere suck because the food is worse than hers. Unless she is sick she never says no to the D. She HATES going out, and hates people almost as much as I do. We met and married in our 30's so no need to wonder if she is going to blow up later in life. She is obsessed with staying in good shape, and keeps me motivated to do the same. There are no games with her, NONE. We both say whats on our mind, no frills, no fluff, no BS.
And the best part. She does her crap and leaves me alone to do mine.
So if you want a good marriage, find an actual good woman. Its not easy to find, but nothing worth it ever is.

Been married almost 7 years. Have 2 kids, my daughter is 2 1/2 and my son is 1 yr old.
I wouldn't say I ever hate my marriage, but I occasionally miss being able to do whatever the **** I want. I definitely don't want out of my marriage. My wife was one of my best friends before we got together, and she still is. Sex life is still pretty good considering the 2 small kids. We've had our ups and downs but I'd say it's been 90% up.

Married over 15 years, 5 kids and happy as ****. Wife is still hot, good sex life and she is a wonderful mother to my kids. My advice to you is absolutely worthless because I grew up in a different time. If I had Tinder when I was 20 I would never have stayed with my girlfriend long enough to get married and that seriously would have sucked because I really do believe that she and I are a very good fit. A bunch of you guys have probably walked away from great girls because you just have too many options or Vise Versa, it is just the way things go.
I will tell you that you need to both stay in shape and be passionate about learning new things and having interesting things to talk about. I see guys let themselves go and wonder why they never get BJs anymore or sit in a restaurant with nothing interesting to talk about, wearing white New Balance Grandpa 11s while their wife is Swiping dudes on Tinder because she is bored. I treat my nights out with the wife like a date still and it is the best thing for a relationship.
You guys know what you are getting into usually.

The only thing I hate is not being able to get up on a sunday and spend the entire day stoned eating doritos and playing xbox like in my early 20s.
Everything else is just peachy.
Everything else is just peachy.

OP, I will answer for older guys... most of the older people hate their spouses with a passion. However, because of kids, they stay with the relationship. Also, in certain cultures, the women are alphas and would kill the guy if they even consider leaving... most of these guys are nerdy bankers LOL... so they are in prison. The girls here can bang whoever they want and still have a family and an ATM... LOL!
There are truly happy couple though... but usually they marry for love rather than finances and/or family pressures and/or desperation

most guys are fat, in debt and unhappy anyways.
So this should give you some guidance
Anything as big as marraige has to be well thought out, else it will not end well
How hard is this to comprehend?
