OP, I will answer for older guys... most of the older people hate their spouses with a passion. However, because of kids, they stay with the relationship. Also, in certain cultures, the women are alphas and would kill the guy if they even consider leaving... most of these guys are nerdy bankers LOL... so they are in prison. The girls here can bang whoever they want and still have a family and an ATM... LOL!
There are truly happy couple though... but usually they marry for love rather than finances and/or family pressures and/or desperation

I couldn't ask for a better wife but it's far from perfect. We have a lot of financial freedom and freedom to live anywhere and pretty much do whatever we want.
We argue probably more than is healthy and in the heat of the worst arguments I will genuinely think, 'Fukk I don't want to be married.' Not for very long though.
We were together for a long time before we got married. We earn about the same and no kids so no real financial implications I think.
I've definitely grown less attracted to my wife as she has got older and I'm around her all the time so for me, that is more or less inevitable. I've been with plenty of other girls and I always got sexually bored of them.
Sometimes I feel like we don't have as much in common as I would like but I'm not sure if there are other girls I would have a lot in common with.
I don't feel I'm missing out sleeping with other girls cos I got most of that out of my system and I'm no ladykiller so it's not like I would be nailing girls left right and center if I were single.
I do love her a lot though and we have been through very good and bad times together.
I don't regret getting married. I'm glad I didn't get married young.
There are times when we have argued and one of us has threatened divorce and I get kind of a sick feeling until we make it up again, like I can't really relax.

I'm not married but I've been with my gf for almost 5 years now and I don't see marriage changing anything. It's just a title.
I can only imagine if we do get married it'd be like...
Brb wooo yay a wedding yay we're married
Brb it's the same person and same relationship and not a single fukkin thing has changed
That's why I think having a big expensive wedding is f*cking retarded.

My wife is just a year or two younger than me. I don't find many women in lateish thirties as attractive as really young (not too young) sloots. But I wouldn't be banging those sloots anyway.
Wife is super loyal and has supported me through a lot.
I generally enjoy spending time with her but wish I had more guy friends to hang out with (no homo).
Couldn't find a more decent girl with strong values but I have to admit I am somewhat intrigued by the free spirit, hippyish types. Not sure they're good marriage material though.
I could probably see myself being totally sick of marriage at some point down the line. Still not convinced two human beings were supposed to spend like 40 years together and never have sex with other people.
So I'm pretty happy but it's a stable happiness not a whirlwind passion sort of happiness. Which is ok with me at this stage in my life.
I've been lucky. As I say I see what a lot of friends have to put up with in their marriages and it's absolutely fukking astounding. Blows my mind that the guys haven't either topped themselves or killed their wives. It's gruesome in many cases.
I still don't really believe in marriage or monogamy as principles but am happy enough to go along with it at this point.
I guess I wish we both had our own independent social circles, that would be much better. And maybe some hobbies in common. We used to run together but we're both average for our genders so naturally I'm a lot faster than her. She really likes outdoorsy stuff (hiking, etc - and is genuinely into it, not just the claim all sloots make) and I guess I'm more into film, books, music. We try to strike a balance. She went to Sonar with me recently and in return I'll go on some hiking holiday with her.
Hope I've given an honest answer. As I say during the worst arguments I've had the desire to smack her but am sure she's probably wanted to smack me too.
There's really little upside for me though. Nothing much changed after marriage compared to before. I did it cos as I said she's traditional and it made her happy. We had a very cheap but fun wedding but I did spend a decent amount on the ring. That pissed me off. I wanted her to be one of those girls that think diamond engagement rings are stupid. But she isn't and doesn't.
I sometimes wonder if it will last, I really don't know. I sound indifferent but at the same time I would die for her in an instant.
Sorry for the long posts. Marriage has certainly completely ruined some men. I would never, ever marry a woman less educated than me and earning significantly less money. I spent a fair amount of time in Asia and saw many Western guys in finance pulling in a couple hundred thou easily who basically married peasant girls. Every single such marriage has been a disaster. The women have zero respect for the guys and are driven purely by money. Plus in the country I was in the sloots would get knocked up ASAP then threaten the guy with never seeing their child again unless they agreed to pay exorbitant 'child support' payments.
Generally these guys were marrying younger women though. Younger but not attractive in my eyes.

I had no problem with your original response, if that's how I come across to you, that's how I come across.
I won't even get into the whole kids things but kids just aren't for everybody. there are also counterarguments to what you say - e.g. parents stick together because they are married so the kid ends up in an unhappy home where really the parents are only together cos a divorce would be too messy. whether that's more or less health for a child than the parents going their separate ways, I don't know.
you're making a quite simplistic judgment as to why I got married. the real reasons are a bit different and more nuanced, but there is also some truth to what you say. as I said my gf was Catholic and, as silly as it seems to me, the idea of living together unmarried didn't sit well with her. so, yes, I got married for her sake rather than mine. but it hasn't really cost me anything and it seemed to make her happy. you are free to look down on us/me and our reasons for getting married, i'm just giving an account of what happened.
i may or may not be miserable but i can say it's not by virtue of being married.

I love being married. My wife is fantastic and I wouldn't have it any other way, srs. Got married at 32 though, and we were together for four years before we tied the knot. Having the right woman in life has made a really big difference to my overall sense of wellbeing.

Wouldn't have it any other way
Being single got old after a while
Me and my wife are like best friends and I rarely associate anymore with my still single friends
Besides a lot of people you meet who are still single in their late 30s and beyond have issues/personality problems that keep them single

Getting married was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I can't stress how important it is that you marry the right woman. Before I met my wife i was wandering aimlessly through life. Meeting her and seeing the path she was on inspired me to handle my business. July 7th will be 5 years married and I couldn't imagine my life without her. We both do well financially, no children, probably won't ever have them, we have some common interests and she's always up for trying new things which is super important. At the same time were both individuals as well.
We got married kinda young I was 26 she was 24, but we've been very fortunate that as we continue to become who we are individually were also growing stronger together. My wife is a gem. No doubt the best person I know, wel maybe 2nd best, her mom is a saint.
There's nothing in this world I wouldn't do for my wife, aND I know she feels the same.
All that said, were not perfect. We bicker for sure. To this day however we haven't had a single massive fight. We got married for the right reasons, we see eye to eye on all of life's major issues. Everything else can be handled easily.
I am the man in my relationship aND my wife is the woman. She's a traditionalist . She looks to me to make the decisions and she trusts me. That doesn't mean we don't talk about EVERYTHING. Our communication is on point , we don't keep anything inside if we're not happy about something. We have a ton of fun together and can legit make each other laugh.
Honestly wouldn't wanna do life without her.

Wait until millennials start getting divorced in large numbers. The next couple of decades are going to be brutal for American men compared to the previous couple.
Picture your average millennial working a median income job with student loan payments, mortgage, car payments, expensive health insurance, $0 in savings, etc. then he gets hit with child support and alimony on top of it.

Doesn't matter the situation, we can have a good time and enjoy loads of shenanigans. We were both very much grown, mature, and our own persons when we started dating. But completely comfortable with single life beforehand. She is financially independent, and more educated than I.
Don't know when or if kids will enter the picture, but I wouldnt mind.
