secondly, to ignore the argument and point the finger at the arguer is another logical fallacy, called ad hominem.

for me, I know I'm not speaking bull**** when I say doctors commonly give incorrect advice to people, so I didn't have to show you you have no case here, because I didn't argue against the bolded.

one miscer actually tried to tell me I'm making a logical fallacy because I "ignore" the conclusions of others making fallacies in the arguments, and its also bull****. because I didn't say the bolded is wrong, I said I don't want to go to medical school to be told the biggest lie of the century that eating saturated fat and cholesterol in high amounts cause heart disease.

god knows what else bull**** is taught to students in medical school, but the simple offense I have already addressed was enough for me to not get involved with doctors.
I'll make you a deal. If you get sick one day, have a heart attack or who knows what. Feel free to stay at home or refuse treatment from a doctor, maybe self medicate and see how you go.

This will be a win for everyone because you won't have to deal with any terrible doctors, and society won't have to worry about you passing your genes onto the next generation. Not that that should be much of an issue anyway judging by your avi.

That isn't taught to medical school students. Whatistaught is that some individuals have a genetic predisposition for increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and arterial disease when they are inactive and eat diets high in saturated fat and cholesterol. This is because saturated fat drives up total cholesterol and for some, can tip the balance towards higher LDL rather than HDL. Meta analyses show that replacing saturated fat with polyunsaturated fat reduces risk of heart disease in any given cohort, yet there isn't enough evidence showing that saturated fat isn't as bad as made out to be.

For some people, carbs are the fking enemy. For some, even moderately high protein can **** their kidneys.

My GF is one of those individuals fked by saturated fats. She tried telling me the same hippy crossfit bull**** that "diets high in cholesterol and saturated fat" aren't actually bad for you. Her cholesterol and BP went into the ****ter after 3 months. She looked great though. Eating a diet high in saturated fat and cholesterol isdefinitely bad for some individuals. You may be in this category.

It isn't a lie. It never was a lie. I can eat whatever I like and have fantastic HDL/LDL and BP. Some have livers that are massively affected by dietary fats.
Go learn how the body actually works instead of reading bull**** on the internet.

Pics of GF since mandatory:

Strong this.

Entire thread full of low IQ copers trashing a profession they could never with all their effort begin to break into, let alone practice. Just lol.

I can see GPs being phased out over the next 10-20 years with the improvement of technology. Jack of all trades master of none is just the kind of feeling you get when they can help you with nothing but just refer you to someone else. I respect all the effort and hard work that is needed to be a doctor and I have utmost respect for all the specialists they refer you to.
People always say this about GPs, but honestly how else would things be done in Medicine? Would people just refer themselves to whatever specialist they think might be able to deal with whatever problem they think they might have? Oh my head hurts, better refer myself to a Neurologist?

Good primary care is essential for both dealing with a majority of common, less complicated illnesses and also properly screening patients for referral to the correct specialist, which in itself requires quite thorough knowledge because things aren't always obvious. Not really the kind of thing you can play down even though the average GP might seem like he has a cushy job.

Wow, I see anti-intellectualism is still rampant on the misc. People working in retail chitting on MD's, lmao. Most of you could never even get accepted to med school, nor pass the first year. Also, what's up with all the hate for GP's? They deal with the worst patients, people who want antibiotics for viral infections, drug seekers, anti-vaxxers. But of course, miscers with degrees from Google University knows best. Just like the clown on the first page who claims to work in healthcare, he has been claiming for long time that he works in psychiatry, yet he has no degree or qualifications, and his incoherent rambling strikes me as being written by a psych patient, not a professional.

During at least 4 years of undergrad

They then need to honor (basically get an A) in almost all of their classes during medical school, publish as many cardiology papers as they possibly can, get 90+ (probably 95+) percentile on two more standardized tests, this time scored against only other medical students, and suck enough cardiologist dink that you get great letters of recommendation from pretentious curmudgeonly academic cardiologists, during at least 4 years of medical school, probably 5 for a research year. Then you pray you get one of the limited residency spots, if not you literally cannot move forward until you do. Rack up an average of 200k debt in the process, added to whatever debt you might have from undergrad.

Then you do 7ish years of related internships, residencies, and fellowships, working 80-100 hrs/week for 30-40k salary (while making full payments on loans). Once you are fully licensed and out, in your mid 30s, you become a hospital's bish, and work 60-80 hours/week with overnight and weekend call.

They deserve the money man, if they paid any less nobody would do it. Also 2016 numbers are more like 400k average 300 starting due to insurance reimbursement changes. There's a reason physician is always in the top 3 careers with highest suicide rates.
I completely agree.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I respect doctors as an honest profession like I would many others such as a plumber, writer, financial analyst etc. I do not, however, put them on a pedestal of being God's gift to Earth. It's just a job.

Most get into it for the money. The way the system works they're seeing patients for shorter spots to make money. This just goes to show they value money over people

I respect those who don't type on their laptop, look @ their watch and give some google answer, you may think I am joking but I am not. Doctors who truly care and don't just push you out asap with a prescription deserve respect. It's such a vital job, I had a family member that could have died from a blood clot because their first doctor dismissed it. If they didn't get a second opinion, they would have died. They went into surgery almost immediately. What makes it worse is in some countries they have forms of affirmative action for this profession, LOL this is one profession you don't want someone squeezing in purely based on their race.

I don't know if I would say I disrespect or do not have respect for doctors. I've seen many physicians over the years due to a severe GI issue. Of great disappointment to me, none were helpful in that area. Generally, with our assembly line medical system of 5 minute talks, I rarely got to know the doctor. Typically it seemed the quicker a doctor could get me out of the exam room the happier he/she was.

Outside of a medical system, I've known many doctors in the neighborhoods I've lived in. Some I liked. Some I would not want to be around long. It could be similar to the hospital waiting room, but in reverse.

Overall I'm not a fan of our medical system. I believe it has little to do with healthcare. As a result the less I have to be at a hospital the better. I've come to believe that much of the check up tests done are unhelpful and can even be harmful to ones health. Along those lines I thought this a decent article:

No, they don't. They synthesize all of the knowledge they learn in school and critically apply it to individual situations, and constantly reapply it as the information in front of them changes. They don't just parrot from a textbook. Lol
if I could lobby the people that provide the info for the text books, I could get medical school to teach students that eating feces is better food.
No, you couldn't. Even if you got your feces eating into a textbook, there is a great model called "best practice" which requires a consensus. The first group of MDs coming out wouldn't just automatically be feces-pushers because they read it in a book...
why do I say this? because doctors learn in school that saturated fat and cholesterol in more than low amounts causes heart disease, and its not true.doctors don't think for themselves, and are taught the wrong info in schooland that's why I didn't become one.
That's the reason you didn't become a doctor? Did I bold the right part. Because you are going to have to back that up. Bro below in the post already addressed your misunderstanding about saturated fats and cholesterol. So defend your argument:

1. Doctors don't think for themselves
2. Med school are teaching the wrong info

Engage me on those two bolded points please, and don't try to dance around it talking about fallacies.
I have been negged by a doctor for saying this before, and shame on him, because hes getting outsmarted by a poor lad like me.
Cool. Now you've been negged by a doctor and a nurse. Because it is so outrageously false.

So what is your actual argument? What I bolded up above or what you pivoted to down here? Because "commonly give bad advice" is generic and almost indefensible. So which is it? "Commonly give bad advice" or "don't think for themselves and med school teaches the wrong info"
for me, I know I'm not speaking bull**** when I say doctors commonly give incorrect advice to people, so I didn't have to show you.
Show us. Back up your point, which has pivoted over the course of a couple posts from your first position.
I said I don't want to go to medical school to be told the biggest lie of the century that eating saturated fat and cholesterol in high amounts cause heart disease.
Just fkn lol. You are wanting us to believe that you decided not to go to med school because you misunderstood nutritional advice as it broadly applies to the population? One piece of medicine that you disagreed with?

It's good you didn't go, because as soon as they had you in a class with other students doing differential diagnoses I think you would've had a brain aneurysm.

I agree..had skin problems and they would prescribe creams that would make it 100x worse...quit them and got a massive outbreak due to being dependent on it and now 100% healed

These *******s dont care..only for profit...diagnose disease/problem , prescribe, come back worse, prescribe other drug, rinse and repeat till you die

Average doctor makes much more than an average engineer. I'm just a union tradie and made more than every engineers at any company I worked for.

Jman Union Refrigeration Mechanic in Vancouver BC will make around $120,000/year with no OT. Our engineers made $80,000 on salary and were pretty much just glorified drafters that hated their lives.

I have a buddy that is a doctor (walk in GP) and he is not overly intelligent. The only reason you would know he was a doctor is because he physically cant not tell everyone he meets that he's a doctor. Its funny as **** and super awkward.

Waitress "would you like another glass of water?"
Doctor friend "I'm a doctor"
Uncomfortable stares until she slowly leaves.

The main difference is that doctors have much better work ethic than 99% of people to become a doctor. If I was smart enough to be a Doctor I am way to lazy to ever become a doctor.
I have no problem working for 80+hours per week but could never go to school and study for 80+hours per week. That **** is exhausting both physically and mentally/

I respect good doctors less than good engineers because doctors, quite frankly, generally aren't that great at or knowledgeable of math or science. However, the average American doctor is slightly more intelligent than the average engineer due to the competitiveness of getting into medical school. I respect mathematicians (depending on area of study) the most, followed by physicists. After that, you could make a good case for chemical engineers, aerospace, and electrical engineers. Obviously, a lot of fields are worthy of respect, but generally, the more mathematical in nature the field, the more worthy of respect it is. Molecular biology, for example, while important and exciting, isn't a particularly challenging field compared to say, molecular biophysics, which is again much easier than something like condensed matter physics. Anyway, if you take the average chemical engineer from MIT, they will make virtually every doctor seem dumb.

OP there are a lot of female mathematicians in abstract algebra. That field is still quite hard. However, it is far removed from mechanical reasoning. It is more logical than quantitative. I am of the opinion (backed by test data) that women are usually biologically inferior at mechanical, quantitative, and spatial reasoning. This is why women generally are less frequently seen in areas like physics and engineering. The quantitative difficulty of a course is often inversely proportional to the percentage of females enrolled in the course. There are obviously, some very prominent notable exceptions, such as Lisa Randall or Sabrina Pasterski, but they are certainly not the norm.

Being a doctor is hard work....sure. Lots of hours, on call, stressful situations. I wouldn't call their field the pinnnacle of intellectualism though- I would look towards academia, especially the math and sciences- for the truly intellectual nerdy types. As the above poster pointed out, many doctors aren't exactly the most capable when it comes to mathematics/quantitative analysis. Just look at any calculus course in college (which is required for pre-med), it is fairly easy to differentiate between the math/science people and pre-med students.

For intellectualism, I would look more towards the people who wrote the medical textbooks, not the people memorizing from them. Also the people who did the original research in the past about the human body, the people who performed the original studies. Heck even the people developing pharmaceuticals and the medical imaging machines found in hospitals.

i went to school to be one. then once i started volunteering and seeing what really went on...i was disgusted. with the exception of some hightly-trained specialists and surgeons... they're basically gov. sanctioned drug dealers that speak crappy english and prescribe unnecessary chit, because of reps who bribe them with free lunches and stuff. My red pill moment was when a healthy, average woman came in for weightloss. Instead of the dr. telling her how to get healthy, she just prescribed her a stimulant pill, and handed out antidepressants like candy. And the first time a saw this bin full of severed human cadaver heads, i did a 180 like that homer simpson gif and went to law school instead.

I used to hold them to a high regard.

I've seen morons and dumb sloots on their way to become doctors. To ignore the bias of money is dishonest. Also many scammy doctors I'm sure everyone has ran into.

I also go by OP's rule. Look how many girls are in the classes. Very few?...generally needs high raw iq and analytical skills. Good amount?...probably not the case.

i respect them because they work hard to uphold a good institution, help people etc. but if youve been a stem student and met some of the pre-meds whove "made it" it's kind of disenchanting, but I go to a state school and my med school is like near the bottom of the ranking by the carribean schools

No, you couldn't. Even if you got your feces eating into a textbook, there is a great model called "best practice" which requires a consensus. The first group of MDs coming out wouldn't just automatically be feces-pushers because they read it in a book...

Show us. Back up your point, which has pivoted over the course of a couple posts from your first position.

Bump.

Hmm then why is their average intelligence so much lower than doctors'?
And why is it so much easier to achieve that than to become a doctor?

your story isn't adding up chief

Scientists are literally just people who weren't smart enough to be doctors.

You're the doctor with the superiority complex that every patient hates. Not saying there aren't great doctors out there, you just are not likely one of them.
