Here we have a 45 year old woman and a similarly aged man. His sexual market value is likely way higher than hers. Men are biologically driven to mate with younger women (functioning sperm for life) as they age, but women lose fertility.

I guess the fact she gets alimony forced by the state, makes all the difference. In a free market without this, I imagine women would have far less incentive to divorce at an older age.
I don't think this has anything to do with alimony. IMO miscers seize on a few examples of this and generalize it.

In community property states alimony is super rare and usually only for a very short time.

In some states if a marriage is less than 10 years the maximum period of alimony is half the length of the marriage, so if you were married 5 years you might pay alimony for 2 and a half years.

And there is a general formula that if you add the income of both spouses together that the spouse receiving alimony can't have a net income (work income plus alimony) over 40% of the total combined income.

Obviously there is a ton of variation by state, sometimes by county, and even which judge rules on the case.

What I've heard (being a 40 something woman) is that a lot of times a couple will separate and the man just won't deal with paying to file. So maybe they both wanted to split, but she is the filer.

There is also a general idea that the person that files has a tactical advantage as the other spouse has to play defense as the respondent.

And, finally, if age has anything to do with it there are two things going on in the 40s - often the man hits that mid-life crisis and wants to go chase young women while around the same time the woman hits peri menopause and generally has less tolerance for other people's BS.

My parents got a divorce after about 21-22 years. Seemed like the perfect marriage until around the 17 year mark (I was 16) when things started going down-hill. They tried working things out for another 5 years or so then inevitably separated then got divorced. Somewhere around the 21-22 year mark. I think as they got older they just grew apart. They each began wanting to live different lives from what they had been. Both made minor mistakes that could have been worked through but resentments built and they just couldn't stand each other anymore.

My major hesitation with marriage would be you can have the perfect marriage for 15-20 years, literally perfect, then sh!t go down-hill for no real reason at all. Then both parties start absolutely hating each other. I think a lot of it has to do with the alleged "Midlife crisis." Suddenly your middle age and are living a life that your unhappy with. You realize your closer to death then your birth and resentment REALLY compounds if things aren't going the way you imagined them.

At work I deal with a lot of domestic issues. I'd say two people that once professed to love each other, especially people will kids. Have the potential to develop the strongest level of hatred towards each other. Even going to the point where they want to see the other person hurt, in prison or occasionally dead.

Stabbings/shootings over domestic issues are fairly common. You are FAR more likely to be murdered by your spouse then a stranger. Only exception being if you are involved in the drug trade/organized crime. And for the most part women commit those crimes of passion as well. Plenty of guys get stabbed by their spouse.

After spending $2500 on a lawyer, I was able to figure out prenup's are a freaking scam and don't work.

-You both have to have lawyers review and notarize the agreement.

-She can't be under any kind of duress-kids, green card, announced you were getting married, moving, job stuff, family crap, pretend crap...

-Prenups only let you keep what you have before you are married... but any increase in value they still get half.
If you bought a house for $400k, it fell in value to $200k when you got married and then rose back to $300k You would still owe her $50k in appreciation even though you are still $100 underwater on the house.

If there was a depreciation during the marriage she can claim "innocent spouse" and walk on the depreciation. Basically they get half of any gain in value and can walk on any losses.
^that sucks hard.

-Finally she can appeal the prenup and if a Judge "feels" like its wasn't equitable, they can throw out the prenup anyway.

This exact thing happened to a coworker of mine. Luckily he was only married for like 5 years. She just came home from work one day, said she was leaving him, gave divorce papers, and was gone. Dude wasn't a beta cuck either. He said it completely blindsided him. His life started falling apart after that.

Sounds worth it to me to have 15-20 years of a perfect marriage. Are you gonna stay alone just to avoid the potential of bad things happening decades down the line?

I wasn't married until I turned 35, 18-35 was a blast. 36-41 has aged me more rapidly than the booze and good times ever did.

If she's "not single" because she's getting money, then that means you think a man contributes nothing to being a husband and father except money.

That would make you a very poor husband and father. In this you are not alone. Most of the Misc doesn't understand what being a husband and father is. That's why we're getting this, "Just move to another country" kind of sht. You're talking about abandoning your children. Whatever your feelings about their mother, your children areyour blood."A man isn't a real man unless he spends time with his family", said the Godfather. Even a murdering criminal who made his living off other people's booze and drug-fuelled misery understood looking after your children.

It's obvious that lots of the Misc had an absent father - even if not officially left, never really there for them. It's hard to learn how to do it if you never had a good example to follow.

Yes. Recently in Australia there was an enormous debate over same-sex marriage. Progressives were for it, conservatives were against it. I said: if the conservatives really want to stop it, say, "we'll okay same-sex marriage, but with no divorce." Then the same-sex advocates would all spin out and say it was unfair. "What? You're not even married yet, and you're already planning to divorce? So why should we pass it, then?"

Luckily for the progressives, the conservatives aren't that smart - and anyway conservatives want to be able to bail when sht gets hard, too. So now we have same-sex marriage, and I give it 6 months before the first same-sex divorce gets filed. In the meantime, thousands of different-sex marriage dissolve. Social justice warrior, conservative justice warrior, same sht: no backbone.

You totally missed my point. Any time a female is alone with kids due to divorce they automatically get thrown the sympathetic single mom card. Where as in reality they're getting child support and father gets the kids every other week. I am going through this now and trust me women get their asses kissed with titles and sympathetic card handed out left and right.

I suppose it depends on what your life-style looks like and what kind of assets you have. There's always the option of long term dating without putting a ring on it and signing legally binding documents that entitles someone to half of any assets or wealth you obtain.

I know a guy who was about to retire at 55 years old. Had been married for 30+ years. Their marriage seemed good. Had kids later in life so they are still under 18, etc.

His wife decides to leave him. Now at 55 years old he's on the hook for child support (x3 kids) and alimony. Since he busted his azz for them to have a nice/large house and his wife decided to skip out now he's in a 5 bedroom 3 bath home by himself, still has to cover the mortgage on his badly crippled income. And since he worked at a place with a pension system she is entitled to a portion of his pension that he's been paying into for 30 years. Not only can he not retire any time soon. He's likely going to have to sell his house and get a smaller place. His savings accounts are also wrecked because she was entitled to half and they both hired expensive attorneys, etc.

So basically imagine working for 30 years to build a solid retirement, a good savings account, have a nice home, and be on the cusp of getting out of the work force and enjoying your life. Only to have everything snatched away by something out of his control. Even a prenup wouldn't have saved him because he built his assets/pension/savings while married.

I'm 26, and have probably like 7 close guy friends for over 10 years now. The first of them to get married was divorced by the girl in under a year (this year). Under a fukking year. She stopped fukking him like 4-6 months in. Just fukking LOL at ever getting married.

This girl let a wedding, honeymoon, house, and dog be bought before she decided to tell her husband she doesn't love him, wants a divorce, and left him. The guy went to couples counseling on his own (as like a hail marry or something, idk why), girl was already 100% checked out and never went. Lol, just fukking lol at how women will completely fukking implode your life if you ever sign that fukking marriage contract.

So you're complaining that women get sympathy, and you don't. You do in fact want a sympathy card.

Don't need sympathy nor do I feel sorry for myself. I only feel horrible for my kids having to wrap their heads around this chit at their age. Man you just jump all over the place and aren't able to stay on topic. My point is the females almost automatically get everything their way even when they're at fault. Never been fired from employment boyo, so I am not sure on this firing quote. Men should always be the back bone emotionally/physically to ensure his child's well being and be able to give them opportunities you never had.

Not to mention the wife got a boob job like 3 months before cheating on him and seemed pretty slooty, not all that surprised to be honest.

marriage...

haha lol...

id rather just have short term girlfriends. a girl would have to be pretty damn special for me to marry her, but still. i find it hard to fully trust other people, and marriage requires absolute trust. i seriously doubt il ever be able to trust anyone that much.
