A lot of gaming hate ITT... I don't regret getting into it, I've enjoy the time I spent gaming other than when I was a young teen and spent an entire day sun up to sun down alone in front of a PC playing some solo game (even then at the end of the day I'd feel like a piece of chit and not want to play for a couple weeks).

I have a positive outlook on gaming today because I see it as an opportunity to act within a competitive realm, maintain contact/relationships with friends that have moved away, work as a team, and bond/find common ground with a younger sibling (10 years younger). Also have a lot of other things going on which factors in I think; hockey, softball, snowboarding, lifting, videography, billiards, motorcycling, style/fashion etc. to name a few - as one other post mentioned I feel like a jack of all trades and a master of none

Not really a hobby... but something I think everyone on Misc enjoys or did at one point. And that's getting fukked up on the weekends and partying.

The amount of drinking n chit I did in my early 20's was obscene. I regret the $100 I would dump on the bar every weekend trying to have fun. This was before I knew how to have fun without copious amounts of booze.

But I learned. Couple glasses of bourbon on the rocks and I'm happy.

Because it consumes so much time if you're not careful, and the reward is fleeting and immaterial to everyday life.
I don't regret gaming, I love it and still play once a week, but I've always had a hard time pulling myself away.
Sometimes I can't help but wonder how much further I'd be along with things if I'd been productive and focused instead of binge gaming and binge drinking in my twenties.

Most stuff is really pointless if you think about.

I spent 1000’s of hrs biking. All I have to show for it is broken bones.

Gaming for sure, though only because I did it to such excess. Naturally, tempered with some sanity/self-discipline it's an okay (though imo, still not great) hobby. I foolishly used it as an ineffective means of coping with disappointment, boredom, anger, etc. and it has ultimately stunted me as a human being lol.

Wow this is so eerily similar to my thoughts. I am in no way close to college talent but I don't really know what got into me. Fun times but regret not applying myself more in HS for better future prospects. Overall it was useless other than getting me in better shape.

Another hobby is probably fashion (no homo). Buying too many clothes/shoes etc that I won't get to wear them all. Trying to stop buying completely so I can go through my clothes over the next few years. Sucks having a full closet when I only wear certain ones.

Edit:
Reading through thread jogged my memory. Worst hobby in general for me is collecting. I've stopped for like half a year in all my collections. I've collected old video games like PS2 games. Spent like $500 that could be worse. Then CD albums. Probably $500 too, hopefully not more. Too much physical space and too inconvenient now that we have digital music. And action figures. Spent too much that I don't want to think about. Collector mentality is so dangerous. I forced myself to drop them and it feels so much better already. I hope never to start another collection again.

Having aquatic turtles as pets. They make for a very interesting pet and neat setup that is appealing to visitors when done properly, but the upkeep on a turtle tank is insanely hard, and a money pit. They are so messy that multiple powerful filters must be used, plus deep cleaning the tank at least weekly. Feeding them properly is also hard, as it's a lot more complicated than just giving them turtle pellets from the pet store; they need gut-loaded live food. Not to mention the massive aquarium and lighting/heat lamp requirements.

I eventually ended up giving mine to a pet store so they could be resold to someone who had the time, money and ambition to keep up with it longterm. Way too big of a pain in the asss to keep aquatic turtles as pets unless you are beyond obsessed with the hobby or have a means of providing them permanent outdoor housing in a warm climate.

I think a lot of people ITT fail to realize that they wouldn't necessarily be more productive if they devoted the downtime they spent gaming/drinking/playing guitar to doing other things that they would likely be doing some other LEISURE activity. If you quit gaming, you most likely would've started miscing, jerking it more often, or playing fuking magic the gathering. Most people, especially in their teens & 20s, can't actually devote their time to productive things because they haven't built up the willpower to do so. This leaves out people with legitimate self-destructive addictions of course, but if in the moment you had a fuking great time with your friends who cares if you were getting chitfaced with your bros instead of studying? If you weren't, you most likely would've been gaming. If you were having a great time gaming, who cares if you weren't out killing brain cells with your bros? If you were addicted to something, there was something wrong with your life during that time, not your hobby. This is coming from someone who has struggled and continues to struggle with multiple addictions.

Depending on your self control from what I've observed video games can destroy people. I hung out with and played video games with a guy who pretty much let them destroy him. He played them/stayed up so late that he slept during his ****ing classes and ended up failing them. Dude is now working at a factory and hating it, however on the bright side he's looking at getting into a trade at least this fall. Personally I've had no issue with them as I just put them down until I've everything off of my plate.

Honestly? Drugs.

But really... Idk... I guess "gaming" but I wouldnt really call that a formal hobby.

Otherwise... Pretty much love all my hobbies and get stoked to improve them every day.

Skiing, surfing, Shooting, outdoor stuff.... Not really anything that I started doing on a consistent basis that I wish I hadnt started doing.

dunno.. i like all the hobbies i have had or still have..

even gaming... have a huge rig I built last year, 1080ti, still buy some games every now and then, but really barely play it. But it's been a long time dream, and even though I don't do the hours long Warcraft and Mass Effect fests I used to, I still like it the couple hours a week I get...

Even getting trashed every day was fun during that period of life in retrospect.



Oh wait, pokemon cards in 5th grade, that **** was gay as ****.

Drugs is an expensive hobby and unless its just weed you are usually drinking too which adds to the cost... lol
