I think life would be better as a peasant 500-1500 years ago

- get your own farm to live on and grow your food and build your own little cob style house as long as you give the nobleman some of your food you grow
- have a defined role in society and when you see your family eating the food you grew/hunted yourself, you know your place in society and it brings you a certain type of satisfaction we don't have now
- virgin bride that loves you and raises your children. Accepts your role as the man in the family without resentment
- feasts every couple months where your family/community gets together and eats, drink wine, dance and have a good time
- religion still exists and you know 100% that when you die you will be spending eternity in paradise with god and those that you love
- cowards and degeneracy was not tolerated. If you steal you get your hand chopped off etc
- men were allowed to be men. If someone causes harm to your honor you are expected to beat/kill them
