Yup. I'm honest af. I make around $40k based on bonuses. It's all about working towards your goals. Went back to school and my goal job pays around $210k or more

Wrong field. If you work in technology, medical, or the professional services fields (finance, accounting, etc.), it is pretty easy to hit six figures with the right certifications.

I dont know what 200k buys you in Portland but in the suburbs of Chicago a sub 200k house buys u a **** hole.

The 100k-200k house price range is literally the lowest tier there is. I know someone whos wife is a manager at McDonalds and he makes 30k (so 55k combined?) and they own a 220k house. What kind of 100k+ earner buys a sub 200k house

But this is exactly why When someone says what they make, it’s menaingless unless they say the city they live in.

$106k in Iowa is is $273k in NYC...it matters and the troll about money is tired as fuk.

my point is that someone saying "i make $XXX" doesn't mean chit if taken out of context because living beyond your means at any annual income is stupid

what impresses me is if someone works fewer than average hours but is still able to pay for everything. like i would be more impressed by a dude making 50k who works 20 hours a week than someone making 300k working 60, assuming he has no money-related stress etc

I hover between 100-120 in rural midwest.. should be balling but have a single income household with a kiddo.. have a 150k house a leased car for my wife a motorcycle and Corvette that are paid off.. mortgage and medical bills other than that life's pretty easy..

Doesn't seem like it would be that rare to make that much.. if everyone isn't frauding it would be interesting to see if there is a correlation between gym goers and the amount of motivation it takes to make that kind of money?

106k in Iowa vs. 273k in NYC is a totally different lifestyle so it's even hard to compare those two numbers adjusted for COL. Make 250k+ and travel anywhere else in the US and your $ goes so much further and you truly are upper-middle class, whereas the 106k in Iowa traveling to any high COL area of the country couldn't consider themselves upper-middle class.

I get it, the goal is always to make more money...but I travel for free and while I’m gone I don’t pay for anything so it’s not my issue.

There has always been this thing here for people to bend truths left and right and it’s old.

To be clear, I get your comparison, I've seen the COL adjusted numbers displayed on some visual of the US and know how far $X salary would go in one city vs. another.

Certain goods and services are not going to be impacted by the COL geographically so in the example you gave, a person from Iowa who has 25% of their take home to use towards discretionary spending it still going to feel financial constraints much sooner than the person from NYC who also has 25% of their take home to use towards discretionary spending. The 273k in NYC should still offer greater financial freedom than 106k in Iowa (if those numbers are adjusted properly to COL).

And then there's other intangibles such as the convenience/proximity a place like NYC offers to some of the best healthcare in the world, food, culture, ect...

I see what you’re saying but there is also a layer of assumption made that people want to live there. I’ve been to many major cities many times and have been to Manhattan and Noetheen Jersey several times and I wouldn’t want to live there. Yes, there are cultural things that are “cool” whatever but there are certainly elements to wanting to avoid the rest of the chit those cities bring. Traffic for example...fuk all of that. I was just in Atlanta and you would have to pay me $250k to deal with that bullchit lol

I said six figures, not $100k. Stop projecting your poverty $108k salary onto me. My point is never that I’m a baller, but that $100k yr (literally) is not a lot of money, even in the Midwest. Hell a nice house in Des Moines is $350k+ these days.

I live in straya.

Have a very good living as an auditor, still iron my own shirts, service my own car, shop at Aldi. Although seriously considering getting a cleaner.

An actual freestanding house here starts at $1mil.
