If it's 1 on 1, and the MMA fighter has time to react fast enough before he gets hit, he'll win every time against a Boxer in a street fight. The only way for a Boxer to win is if he closes the distance and throws the first punch, and overwhelms him before an MMA fighter can react fast enough. Size also gives advantage to a grappler, so it'll be really tough for a Boxer to beat an MMA fighter 1 on 1.
Boxing is better against crowds though.

And Jones in his prime was 10x better than fat old Toney that really isn't a good example at all.

MMA guy wins 90% of the time
Even in striking alone, top MMA strikers take it most of the time because of the kicks, knees, and elbows they are well trained in
Also, MMA guys fight with 4 ounce gloves which are close to the size of regular hands. Boxers rely on hiding behind huge pillows for defense

A boxer wins 99% of the time in a street fight. MMA fighters rarely throw kicks or takedowns. And if they have no clue they're going against a 50-0 professional boxer it's game over for them.
Lol, get outta here with gay wrestling and bjj. You'd be trying to figure out if that's your brain on sidewalk while using that arm bar.

You can ignore the evidence all you want, but the fact is boxing is one aspect of fighting. And yes, a boxer has a puncher's chance, and people keep adding stipulations in the boxer's favor, but a real mixed martial artist has the advantage in most combat scenarios apart from a boxing match.

The only reason elite boxers would have good chances with elite MMA fighters is because certain intangibles that make you a great boxer also translate over to real fighting. As a style it should be obvious boxing is inferior to several martial arts, let alone knowing/practicing multiple styles of fighting.
Someone who is elite in boxing has: Great coordination, punching power, athleticism, physical strength, ability to take punishment, stamina, great timing.
Old school heavyweights like Foreman, Lyle, Norton etc. could easily fight like Derrick Lewis who just might be the next UFC heavyweight champion.
If you were to take a random person and want them to max out their fighting potential you wouldn't have them learn boxing as opposed to grappling martial arts.

Everyone is changing the original scenario. It's not a random high level boxer, it's one of the quickest, strongest and most athletic boxers of all time. It's also not a slippery mat against a fat, aging and slow boxer like the Couture gif.
In that scenario if it was random MMA guy and he somehow gets the jump on rattlesnake Jones the back of his head is exposed. Jones would punch there and the fight ends. He's a freakishly quick and strong man.
