I dont know why ppl think ufc fighters would only throw punches in a supposed street fight. These are smart ppl fellas. It wouldnt be hard to duck under right hand and shoot in or bait for a boxer to overextend and be off balance.
You couldn't dodge a RJJ punch now much less in his prime.

It wouldn't be hard? LMAO. Boxers who're purely trained to dodge punches still got knocked out by RJJ with ease. He literally made them look like fools. LOL at thinking it's to dodge punches from a world champion boxer. You are a fool

Again I ask you, how do you grab a guy who's hands are as fast as bullets with superior footwork? If no boxer could come close to knocking him out, what makes you think a BJJ/Wrestler can??

Roy was an elite athlete. He was never the most sound or fundamental boxer, decent but he got by a lot on his ridiculous athleticism. This would help him in any sport. Also street fights never look like an MMA fight and half the time never ever go to the ground.

Also its a street fight so Roy can bite the **** out of him, grab his nuts and squeeze, bite his testicle, or poke his eyes out when on ground forcing him to let go. So that diminishes the MMA guys ability to hold him down.

Alot of people seem to be failing to realise how immense of an athlete RJJ was in his prime, insanely fast, insanely athletic and had god tier hand speed along with punch power of a heavyweight while weighing just 160lbs. He has one of (if not the only) recorded compubox full 3 minute rounds where the opponent failed to land a single punch on him.

You're making some hellish assumptions about the MMA fighter being able to get within range to do anything without being knocked out, most people who went up against prime RJJ found it hard to even hit him flush nevermind knock him down, he was that fast and mobile.

The majority of fights in the street have about a 5-10 second period where punches get thrown before they clinch and end up on the ground, I find it extremely hard to believe someone is getting close enough to Roy to get hold of him before getting either A) knocked out as they try go for his legs/arms or B) moved away from as his footwork was extremely unorthodox and very loose/quick.

thread is dumb, too many variables.
RIP BIG RICHARD

Pokes are common fouls in grappling and rugby, people do not 'stop in their tracks' like is commonly preached by self protection instructors.

I honestly think most self protections instructors who tell people how deadly eye poking and attempted eye gouging are, have never done it in a street fight or competitive environment. MMA fighters stop and have a time out when poked in the eye, because they can, not because they are incapacitated.

It's hard to poke someone's eyes out, when they reflexively slam their eyes shut when a finger touches their eye. I've gouged twice in fights, and you end up ripping into their tear duct. Again, I honestly think most people who promote eye pokes and gouging, have no real experience in competition or fights.

Honestly just depends on who attacks first, RJJ was just too fast, but if JJ would get his arms around him 1 takedown he's ****ed

No. A grappler who doesn't know how to disguise their takedown attempts with feints is going to get knocked the **** out shooting in with their chin out.

Two questions

Whats the difference between a street fight and a real fight as stated in your OP?

Have you ever seen what happens to a side posture boxing stance when faced with leg kicks and takedowns? One leg kick from a muay thai fighter would probably break/damage his leg so severely he wouldnt be able to continue or even get off a punch.

Boxing has very specific rules so does not translate well when people disregard those rules and do things like kick you or rush under your punches and double or single leg takedown you and now you are on your back trying to punch with no leverage... never really works well for the guy on the bottom.

Sorry but you sound dumb. A grappler who doesn't know what they are doing would go in via bull rush for a power double, full force head down leaving themselves open to a guillotine, an experienced grappler would just shoot for an outside single or ankle pick and take someone in a boxing stance down easily... An experienced muy thai practitioner would throw a well time knee to counter. What punch do you throw to counter an ankle pick?

They are trying to land too. A good mma fighter would not engage on the feet and go for the takedown. Street fights like mma is a combination of land, sea and air.

Never.

As an earlier poster said, Khabib and Dillion Danis just had areal fighta few weeks ago. Both of them are grapplers and yet... they were throwing haymakers at each other with their eyes closed.

Not only that, most of Conor's team and all of khabib's team are grapplers... yet in a real fight situation, they thew punches.

I think it depends on where you are from. I have seen someone ankle pick a dude in a bar fight, because Im in America and was hanging out with a bunch of wrestlers, which you might be surprised how many there are depending on what state you are in. In Iowa or the midwest, theres undoubtedly more wrestling trained men than boxing trained men, so you see a whole bunch of takedowns and ground fighting before fights are broken up it is always on the ground.

The reason those guys were throwing haymakers in that riot was the fact that theres 1000s of people in a crowd and you only have the use of your arms and barely even that to throw punches, that was a scrum, everyone just flailing around.

In terms of actual training, id say it goes wrestling, boxing, then kicking arts in that order of the stuff people have actually trained and are able to use in a fight, so if you square off 1 on 1 without interference, its highly likely one guy grapples the other, or both grapple, everyone instinctually knows how to swing their arms so you see punches thrown most times too, because KOing someone is the quickest way to end a fight. But god help a boxer who takes a boxing stance against a trained kickboxer or muay thai guy who has space to kick... one or two leg kicks to untrained legs is a wrap, people who have never been kicked in the knees or shins have no idea how debilitating it is to soft untrained legs.

Why do you people even ask these questions? It's a game of chance. Like black jack. One wrong move and the fight is over. It's not about skill or talent. It's about luck.

And all fighting is neanderthal.

They should all be banned. Boxing and the MMA should be banned. We are carrying on the traditions of sports that were invented hundreds of years ago. We are smarter than that now. There's no reason to carry on the tradition of neanderthal low intelligence sports.

Plus boxing and MMA don't represent the worlds fittest athletes.

It's like college darts.

Out of the 12 people that showed up for college darts you're the heavyweight champion of them all.. Wow .. Who cares. It's really not that great of an accomplishment.
