Look, this simply comes down to the underlying problem
Millennial "men" are not working hard, they are spoiled and soft as hell. Even the new guys that come in where I work (Top 3 Tech company) who have their Masters / PhD in Electrical Engineering or RF Wave Propagation don't have the hunger, the drive, the grit that the older guys have, and this isn't some "the young guys are lazy these days get off my lawn" post, I'm not saying they aren't smart, they are, but they are soft as hell. They give up very easily, and if you don't pamper them / treat them with kid gloves they'll whine and complain.
I'm sure it's even more obvious in the trades where you have to home some amount of physical beating your body will have to take, mental and physical toughness. It cliched but they just aren't used to the real world, their moronic socialist / marxist teachers who are all unionized and about as far from the "real world" as you can get, don't have a clue what the reality is in the current economic paradigm.

My parents had a sewage pipe that was leaking under one of their rental houses that eventually burst. It had apparently been like that for probably 1.5 years before they started to notice the smell. The plumbers had to get down into the crawlspace under the house on their hands and knees and practically "army crawl" through a year of chit buildup to fix that pipe.
Yeah, i'd say its worth $90k/year.
I'll take a $10-15k paycut(my current wage) to not have to crawl around in chit. When people think of plumbers they like to think of the guy kneeling under a kitchen sink with his ass crack showing, but in reality its a much MUCH nastier job than you'd imagine.

Im a consultant engineer and see both sides of the life. Great tradies are smart and make a killing and my life easier. Some tradies drown their business in debt and get sued/bankrupt over poor decisions. It's not always as simple as just walking onto a job site everyday and doing honest work. If they fuk up they gotta pay for it. And trust me, there are a lot of lawsuits in the business.

Controls engineer / glorified tradie for automotive plant. 90 percent sitting at my desk, 10 percent fixing **** with a keyboard. 170k last year. Every skilled trade guy in my building makes over 120k a year. Some over 200 but they are at work a ton. In this environment, you are sitting on your ass 8 hours a day waiting for a breakdown.

Was a tradie while I finished my EE degree. Still addicted to energy drinks and will never stop until my heart pops. Had some crews that made work fun af, but sometimes it was miserable.
I'm more happy chilling at my desk drinking espressos, working less hours and making more money even though offices are depressing

The key is to get them on record admitting to insurance fraud since the bad ones are idiots and think they're clever by overcharging your household insurance for work. Take pictures of every single worker, even the guys who might just clean up and be sent out to get lunch, and never let them leave anything behind at your house even some chitty old tools (they can claim they are still working on the job)
Vette subcontractors too, we had a material supplier who ran a scam with the contractor where the contractor would buy $1000 extra material on our credit card, then give it back for a refund on his credit card. Never sign anything that let's subcontractors do chit like that and threaten to sue or go to the license board the second they start getting scammy
We actually saved thousands on some jobs because the contractor decided to try to scam us and was dumb and ended up losing out on getting paid because of it. Unlicensed tradies trying sneaky scams then realizing that now they could owe you all the money you paid them because they're not certified

I wouldn't change my white-collar career path, but a bunch of people I went to school with ended up in various trades.
The smart ones all now have their own companies, employ other tradies to do the ****ty jobs, and make seriously good cash. I believe that if you have some business sense, there is a lot more money to be made than if you only rely on your own labour.

However he was pretty grumpy because apparently the taxes, insurance, and healthcare costs owning your own business are brutal. Not ground breaking in any way, but just a different perspective on the "self employed tradie living the dream" idea that gets thrown around a lot

Funny, Im a plumbing engineer and I sit around making 91k with zero student debt. The only time I have to leave the office is to go tell the tradies what they screwed up in the field.
Both jobs have potential, but you actually have to figure out what will make you money before you go to college and decide. Most people havent decided what they want to do or how they will make money even after they waste $20-60k on a degree.
