that wasn't Butcher's wife. it was the shape shifter dude, the kid was just some blonde kid and Homelander was just tricking him.
But the kid has his eyes glowing in the end in the same color as Homelander.
I binged the show in like 2 days. I read some wiki about the comics and I feel like overall I like the divergence (but again, I haven't actually read the comics). Some SJW elements in the TV series but it's bearable/not overdone. I feel like the decreased focus on random rape/sex in the TV series vs the comic was a good thing cos it fleshes out the motives of the characters beyond "horny kunt with superpowers". Was annoyed at what happened at the end with A-train but eh it's within the scope of what Hughie's personality is like. I feel like they used the comics as a basis and then used that to develop a good, independent series in its own right.
"Have faith in the Lord Fifth, gain eternal life! When the Lord Fifth appears, who dares to cause strife!"
"Heyyy. Hi there! Hello! Im Lord Third. Let me tell you something, do you know how high I can count? I can count to three"
Little Haowie, dont you worry, it said, eyes shining brightly. My dream is that, upon entering the Black Lands, there will be people there shouting the name of Lord Fifth. Then, my two great armies will join together to become like my wings!

the Boys is awesome. I binged it in like 3-4 days. I told everyone I know to watch it and nobody did lol. My wife fell asleep in episode 1 and I legit felt like divorcing her. Loved the show. Can't wait for season 2. Homelander is a bad ass lol.

Why would Homelander go through all that just to trick pretty much a nobody?

so? doesn't mean the kid is real or even the child of Butcher's wife. he could be raising one of those babies they made that were in the hospital like how Homelander was raised.

So it wasn't simply a case that he said "Suck my dick to get ahead." He threatened to tell people that she assaulted him, and realistically she had every reason to believe that the public and the company would believe a nationally beloved superhero over her.
Regarding her dress provocatively...
Her character's theme seems to be centred around the idea of integrity and corporate culture. The question of what are we (and any of us) willing to compromise. We can see that the rest of the seven have compromised to the point that they've become morally corrupt, and we are seeing her at the beginning of her ethical journey.
Her dressing provocatively in and of itself wasn't the issue, the issue that presented was if she was willing to compromise her values and integrity for the corporation.

Being forced to do a sexual act by threat of violence is one thing, but there is also a real psychological and economic being applied by a boss/superior when they proposition a subordinate.
Away from the fictional, and IRL... I almost went to court as a witness for an 18 year old who was propositioned by her 45 year old married boss (he had an affair with another 18 year old who worked their before, who fell in love with him). She refused his advances, but I began to pick up that something was wrong. She went from being a happy go lucky girl, to constantly looking miserable and stressed. One day I, approached her to ask her what was wrong and she broke down crying, showed me text messages, and told me what was going on.
You and other miscers might call bullchit, but I put her in touch with a lawyer, and there was enough evidence (she literally had records of asking him how he got her number, and he said he got it from the employee files, and a record of him refusing her), and they didn't hesitate to pay an out of court settle. As far as I know, he no longer works for that company.
She refused his advances, and the consequence was that he was routinely a dick to her, and even cornered her the staff locker room and told her not to tell anyone. Being in a positon of power IMO carries with it responsibilities, and IMO one of the responsibilities is being away that social interactions with subordinates is always partially a threatening to them.
Not everyone has the psychological make up, or temperatment, to be unshakeably assertive when they feel intimidated by someone more (literally and figurately) more powerful than they are.
(I'm not going to go into details, but I figured out something was going on through observing from body language, etc. And knowing the history of the manager... He had been known for making advances on people in the past.)

I really advise trying to see how it's more difficult for other people, than you, not to feel very psychologically intimidate when/if someone in a position of power propositions them.
For example, some of the women who were allegedly propostioned by Harvey Weinstein and refused, were actually blacklisted...
"Peter Jackson: I blacklisted Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino under pressure from Weinstein
Jackson said Miramax told him not to cast duo in Lord of the Rings series
Both actors refused Weinstein’s pressure to have physical relationships"
That shows that actresses were likely threatened to have their careers destroyed, if they didn't let him do what he wanted with them.
Those were (relatively) big name actresses, who likely had some savings and other opportunites to live off.
Now imagine all the broke/struggling actresses, who were working a chitty job to pursue their dream, who then get propositioned by Weinstein to pleasure him or their career gets destroyed in their infancy.
I'm not saying that they 'should' comply, but I am saying that it's not as easy as."They are just dumb broads, and that's why they sucked his dick."
(Also, I'm not saying that I believe that any and every case was due to the women being forced or intimidated. I've no doubt their are actresses more than willing to exchange sex for acting opportunities.)

People seem to be forgetting that crucial scene.
Realistically, who would people believe?
A national hero who is on camera saving lives, year after year... Or an unknown - powerful - newbie?

^ her goal in life was to "help people." She admitted that she didn't really need to be part of "the 7" to do that. So not only is that character dumb AF, but also a liar. She lies to herself more than anything. lol.
You mean he threatened to say SHE attacked HIM. And again, I say, who gives a frack?
If you, as an adult, can be forced or coerced into doing anything that goes against yourone or twocore values - then your parents failed to teach you the most basic life lessons. I know you and I will disagree on this, but I'm going to say it anyways. Some of us are born into religion. However, it's our responsibility toresearch and adopt by choicethe religious belief at some point in our lives. Blindly going through life isn't smart. Likewise, blindly following the masses like sheep isn't smart and almost always leads to suffering. What that character was doing was being a sheeple. And her having super powers is a nail in her dumbness coffin.

Despite miscers saying 'he did nothing wrong', Louis CK understood how the dynamics of power can affect our decision making. When he used to ask females who worked for/with him if he could masturbate, and then whipped his dick out, he realized that it wasn't simply a sexually invitation to them, it was a dilemma because they had to think if their entire career could be destroyed/harmed if he is a vindictive kind of person.

Can you imagine genuinely facing the threat of going to prison, being sued, and/or blacklisted?

That doesn't provide anything useful, in regards to helping anyone who may find themselves in that situation.I'll be honest, this reminds me of when people on the internet watch vids of people getting sucker punched and beaten up, and say things like "I would just do XXX", "That guy has no technique", "He could have easily defended himself by doing this technique". It's very easy to sit back in the comfort of ones home theorizing about how they would act in a given context or scenario, but it is a very, very different when you are actually in front of someone and genuinely facing the threat of violence.
Theory and reality are 2 different things.
I know you and I will disagree on this, but I'm going to say it anyways. Some of us are born into religion. However, it's our responsibility toresearch and adopt by choice the religious belief at some point in our lives.
I genuinely don't see how that is relevant. What that character was doing was being a sheeple.
I think you are massively oversimplifying the context within which the character made the decision.People make compromises regarding their values all the time(which is what the arc of her character seems to be about), and I'm sure even you do... Right?

My point with all this is simple - there has to be something psychologically wrong with you as a person if you're willing to be physically and/or mentally violated for the mere chance at temporary glorification by the masses. Just lol.
Edit: just for clarification purposes, I don't really give a damn what your core values are. What defines you as a person is whether or not you have the credibility to stick to them. The character Starlight, not only caves on ONE of her core values (sexing someone for fame), but she did it again with her outfit and on "saving people." In fact, she's the least credible character on the show. Even Karl Urban's character is more credible than she is and he's all over the place. Even Homelander doesn't deny who he is and why.

Empathy is not an ethical prescription.
Attempting to understand what motivates someone to make a decision, is not the same thing as supporting that decision.
I'm empathizing with the character (and women who have been in genuine #metoo situation), that doesn't mean that I'm saying that their decision was 'right'. I am attempting to understand why they made the decision.
The decision you or I may make in a given situation, is not the same decision that everyone else will make, because we aren't carbon copies of one another. And there are many variables (internal and external) that affect our decision making process (no offence, but that is psychology 101.)
Do you understand that empathizing is not agreeing with, supporting, or condoning?
Uh huh, yea okay. Just because you switched your beliefs at the drop of a hat doesn't mean everyone else would do the same.
I've said this before multiple times to you...You have a bad habit of thinking you can read people's minds, and knowing exactly what someone has done without them telling you or you witnessing it.
You and I haven't even been in the same room Muzziechik... Please consider that.
Some people actually fight for what's right.
Have you personally ever faced the threat of going to prison, being blacklisted, or being sued?Anything situation remotely similar to the threat that the character was facing?
Your comparative scenario isn't a comparison at all. One is done as a surprise (sucker punched), the other allows you the chance to make a choice.
That wasn't the comparison. The actually comparison I was making was between you, and people who watch videos of people involved in violent situations and theorize. The point is that it's very easy to say what you would do, feeling safe and relaxed in the comfort of your own home. It's very, very different thing to actually be in that scenario.
There is a difference between theory and reality.
I think (again,I think... maybe you've been in a similar situation), that you are simply theorizing about what
Unless you've been anywhere near anything like
If someone handed me a big red button and said if you push this, you're a million dollars richer but someone, somewhere will die - there's no way in hell I would push the button. I'd not even think about it. It's not a wishy washy moral stance that can be changed willy nilly. But you'd know nothing about that eh.
That is very abstract idea far removed from reality.
Women being threatened and propositioned is not. That's the point.
Again though, maybe you've faced a similar scenario. But... Again...This isn't about you.
Not everyone has your psychology, or upbringing.
You seem to have a really hard time empathizing with people (putting yourself in other people's shoes, trying to understand their motivations, temperament, etc).
Values - sure. One or two core values- nope.
My point with all this is simple - there has to be something psychologically wrong with you as a person if you're willing to be physically and/or mentally violated for the mere chance at temporary glorification by the masses. Just lol.
Why would you laugh at someone who - in your own words - is psychology damaged, that they allow themselves to be violated for money/fame, etc? That's tragic. They are spiritually and emotionally sick.My point with all this is simple - there has to be something psychologically wrong with you as a person if you're willing to be physically and/or mentally violated for the mere chance at temporary glorification by the masses. Just lol.
However, that isn't the scenario we are talking about.
We are talking about a character that was threatened with prison, being sued and/or blacklisted.
We are also talking about real women (like the Newspaper article I posted) who actually were blacklisted, after refusingto doing anything sexual with Weinstein.

To me, that's sending the wrong message to young girls tbh. Men and women should be taught to identify what their core values are and be credible enough to stick to those core values. And if they stray from them, accept full responsibility for the consequences of those decisions.
I understand they're portraying what really happens in the world. Concepts like moral values, credibility, accountability and personal responsibility are lost upon this world. It's sad that we reiterate the deluded message through movies, music and media that's in our face all the time.

I even said that was what her character was about in the first reply to you.
At the start of the show, they show her as a very down to earth girl who knew exactly what she wanted in life. Become one of the sevenss. Regardless of whether it was voiced or not, she wanted that status. What I have a problem with is once she attains what she has wanted, at the cost of her own moral values, she behaves victimized even though the choice was completely hers.
Choice under duress - i.e. being framed for a crime she didn't commit. However, that only one choice that she made.I would also argue that she didn't behave like a victim, that she behaved like someone who was struggling to maintain integrity in a deeply corrupt institution. By the end of the series she has resolved some issues.
What The Deep did was ethically wrong, she chose - I personally look at that choice with compassion rather than condemnation, due to the context - to avoid possible prison, being sued, or blacklisted by giving him a blowjob. Her calling him out on blackmailing him wasn't playing the victim IMO, because what he did was wrong, and deserved to be called out. She didn't do anything ethically wrong IMO by giving him the blowjob... Because it was not a 'quid pro quo' scenario, she was faced with the prospect of prison for attacking a national hero, or give him a blowjob.
She had a character arc. She grew.
IMO at the beginning of the series she had integrity because she was naive, she believed that things were black and white, that there was simple line between good guys and bad guys. But we saw her question herself, her values, her choices, her religious beliefs - and the black and white Evangelism that she previously believed -, and it even took Queen Maeve - who herself was deeply unhappy, and had lived without integrity - to remind her to live with integrity.
By the end of the series, she was no longer naive, she no longer saw things in black and white, nor did she see a clear and simple line between the good guys and the bad guys, but she had learned to find integrity... Her last scene was her even trying to save the life of A Train even though she knows it may mean she is going to prison for attempted murder, or may be killed by Homelander for betrayal, and even though her Boyfriend begs her to leave him.
To me, that's sending the wrong message to young girls tbh.
That is exactly what was explored in the show. i.e. the scene with the young girl at the signing.I think her character arc is a good message for young girls - though the show is made for eighteen plus year old. Her integrity by the end of the series is no longer based on an illusion - about herself and society - she's seen the worst of herself, and she's seen the worst of society.
I see her arc. as a redemption arc. She has integrity, loses her integrity, and then regains it... And it's even stronger than before - i.e. willing to risk prison and death, by trying to save A-Train's life.
I think that's more relatable - and a therefore better guide for girls - than someone who never spiritually falls. Because it's a story of redemption, not someone who is morally perfect from start to finish.
It seems - again, I'm guessing - like you wanted the TV show to depict only people with perfect integrity - i.e. 1950s movies, that's not me mocking, that's what movies in that era were like- , rather than people who struggle to maintain integrity and redeem themselves - i.e. Starlight?
I don't find simplistic depictions of morality and psychology personally appealing artistically - like to explore moral ambiguity -, but I do know that there are people who won't watch modern TV and film because the characters can often have deep flaws, and there is a purposeful portrayal of moral ambiguity. I personally love exploring that in art.
If you haven't seen Silence directed by Martin Scorsese (or the book Silence By Shusako Endo) I highly recommend it... You'll see the major spiritual dilemma at the end. The whole question of religious integrity is explored, on a level that I've never seen before.

ok, watched part of episode #1 last night and I caught the part where she blew The Deep. I must have been making a snack or something and glossed right over that.

When she found out what the 7 were really like she was disappointed... and felt duped. No, I understand the motivation behind why that character made that decision. What I'm arguing, and you're not understanding, is thatthere's a conflict there about what she says she believes and what she actually believes. At the start of the show, they show her as a very down to earth girl who knew exactly what she wanted in life. Become one of the 7's. Regardless of whether it was voiced or not, she wanted that status. What I have a problem with is once she attains what she has wanted, at the cost of her own moral values, she behaves victimized even though the choice was completely hers.
At least they haven't spent a lifetime hating themselves for what potentially could have happened. Good for them, they should be commended. Which we both know, has caused many celebrities to commit suicide.

Also... Starlight is supposed to be what.... 16? 18 maybe? Asking her to be as morally strong as someone like Malcolm X or Dr. King or Gandhi is pretty crazy.
