This sentiment is also surprising to me. I am not even officially divorced yet.

Having someone that is chained to you long term even when you are going through chit is highly valuable. It is unfortunate my first marriage didn't work out, but had a great companion for most of it.

I am in this boat too. Happily married, two boys, both of us are in it for the long haul. But if something ever happened I'd stay single, don't even think I'd date to be honest. At that point, rather than starting over and complicating things I'd raise my boys and live life however I please. That being said I'm fairly introverted so I'm not afraid of doing things alone either.

Hopefully I never have to find out. If my son is grown and something happens to my wife I just don't see myself going out to the bars and chasing women again. If something were to happen to her sooner while my son is still a kid who knows. I'd never get remarried...assuming the reason would be my wife passing for me being single again. I don't think it'd be fair to her or the kids in that scenario. Also I don't have the energy to start all over again like that.

We just celebrated out first anniversary yesterday! We went back to where we got married and soaked up the atmosphere in a different way.

We saved the top tier of our cake, and started eating that bish last night.

Lol got me thinking... If I die first and there is an afterlife.... I will be royally hacked off if I sit around waiting for Husband to peg it so he joins me and he has remarried and wants to spend afterlife with her instead.

We went ham on making sure it was sealed hella well lol. It was wrapped in a case in probably 10' of saran wrap, and then placed in a cake specific tupperware. Honestly, it tasted almost as good as the wedding day. We ate half the fukkin thing last night lol.

That said, we were fully prepared for it to be awful, and had chit on standby to make our own cake

Married for 26 years last December - been together for around four years prior to that.

Two great kids (22 and 17) who are now largely independent, so the next adventure awaits. Possibly going to move overseas for a few years, just to do something different.
