He's trying to incite people. I haven't seen him post anything useful in a long time.

As far as when degrees are worth it, it depends on what we mean by worth. An art history degree probably won't get you a good job, but if you want to be educated about art and are passionate about it, then learning about it isn't a waste.

You go back to school because being in the trades isn't good on your body in the long term, 40+. The trades in my classes were smart, they made a ton of money and they're getting into a different part of the field before they become old and broken. There's more than just trades in the construction field. Superintendents, Construction Managers, Estimators, Safety Coordinators, Inspectors, etc. etc. If you're good in your field you could get a business degree and start your own subcontracting business.


School is getting more and more expensive. Why take out a loan when you can go Trades or Military, stack hella paper, and then go to college graduating debt free?

He's probably an idiot who doesn't appreciate the importance of both. Everyone mocks tradies, but tradies are the ones who execute and maintain a lot of the stuff we have. The difference is that since the skill usually requires less intellectual effort, anyone can be trained to become a tradie. It turns into a pissing contest when it really shouldn't be.

He's just being a smart ass.

College is great, but it's expensive, and it's even more expensive if you don't get the right degree. It seemingly grows every year. Sally Mae reports more and more profits. The student loan bubble is real. Our economy will collapse because of that, not because of tradesman.

And that doesn't touch up on liberal college talking points indoctrinating the youth.

Im in electrical school.. and i have to say. Ive been using more trigonometry than i have in a longgg time. I know you didnt reference electrical here, but in regard to trades. Now, i will say i dont think the other students know it to the degree i do and i think there are tools in the field that prob aid them. But this is prob more critical thinking than ive done in a bit and ive taken quite a lot of science

Circuit theory, conduit bending, etc. Lol @ thinking theyll let any joe blow install electricity and blow themselves up. Or chit.. blow up the people they installed it for

Yet, of course, specialization, as Adam Smith said, is one of the things that allowed our society to become so productive and enabled the construction of marvelous products that would be too difficult for a small group of generalists to create.

What's interesting is we clearly didn't evolve to be specialists. This makes our entire way of living feel very unnatural. People become jaded and unhappy with the same job after decades. It is in our nature to get bored and seek to learn new skills.

The tragedy is there isn't enough time. Unless you're really clever, it's difficult to gain even a basic understanding of the vast number of fields of knowledge and expertise. Democracy requires people to have a strong general education, but our education keeps morphing to become more specialized.

This thread has become about you because you're wrong. Everyone else here has jobs, and seeing as how they do it everyday, they know what they're talking about. You on the other hand are just giving opinions based on something you read.

You seem to think that an MBA is a specialized degree, when it's the most generalized graduate degree one can get. This is how we know you don't know anything.

Me personally, I find it really weird that you consider yourself superior to everyone else, yet have nothing to show for it. And I mean absolutely nothing, it's kind of impressive how much of a failure you are. I know losers who don't try at anything in life, and they are nowhere near the level of rock bottom you've reached. It's like you're actively trying to fail. And if in fact you are, then I guess congratulations.

yep electronics also presents the easiest real world example of complex numbers in impedance and index of refraction
