I never really got into Korn outside the most mainstream songs freak on a leash etc. Not sure why I didn't since I really liked that song, I need to give their albums a proper listen.

I find RATM are my go to harder music. Obviously not that hard in the scheme of things but I can still hear their lyrics clearly and have a good beat/tune whatever.

Perhaps not quite the same but someone posted this on the misc a couple of weeks ago and I have been thrashing it ever since. Had no idea they were even still together. Ignore the tranny at the beginning...

I agree. Everything is getting price gouged. Companies have realized the vast majority of people are more than willing to pay over market value for something they really want.

For concerts a small open air venue could pull 3000 to 7000 heads.

A $50 price gouge at 7000 heads it's like $350,000 the venue will generate more per day compared to what they would pre covid. Do the math.

Big venues could be 40,000 heads or more. 40,000 x $50 = 2 million dollars.

Dolores, Layne and Mike. Scott Weiland. Chris Cornell, and Kurt Cobain. Brad Nowell from Sublime, Dime Bag Darrel and Vinny Paul.

Eddie Van Halen and Prince, both recently passed away. They're more 80's pop rock but were 10/10 guitarist throughout the 80's, 90's and 2000's.

this. without a doubt pantera was one of the hardest metal band of the 90s. there are some others too, but none reached the level of popularity that pantera did.

korn had alot of anger, but not too much talent.

To clarify my stance: Tool is better and overall cooler and genius and everything

It's savage. The drummer is one of the goats srs.I'll admit it. Korn went hard in the 90's. It's like how you said earlier in the thread about production quality and how no expense was spared to produce the albums.

The recordings are clean and loud AF. The bass and vocals sound 10/10. Almost every album Korn made went either gold or multi platinum.

Most of the grunge and alternative bands of the 90's may not have had the most hardcore sound but they all killed it on vocals.

When you listen to a song like Alice in Chains' -Would?,

Or Man In the Box it's balanced with drums, vocals, and guitars from low to high range. That's what makes music go ham. Without balance it just sounds like ass IMO.

If heavy metal heavyness was represented by girls asses, this type of metal would be analogous to a pancake ass.

No dynamic range, flat, grey, muddy mix.Strong contenders up there with Tool, NIN, and Metalica.for sure. its like some of these people never heard of a brick wall limiter.

Its not like I sit there and listen to some flat song and dont get it. I get it, I get the supposed energy. Just when i hear it, it doesnt get me wanting to bob my head to it or whatever because the energy is flatter than something that more properly full if that makes sense.

I have been a hard ass dude my whole life, i have experienced a bunch of hard things and every type of music. I know what gets my adrenaline going. If i listen to something and its pancake flat, it just doesnt do it for me, thats the musics fault not mine. In other words, if Pantera was really harder, then it would sound harder and make me feel that way even more, but instead it does the opposite and reduces my ability to absorb it due to bad audio design and mixing and mastering techniques lol

And even within a song the whole perception of a song is based on transitions and relativity anyway. Its kind of like how the human body cant actually feel speed, you can only feel acceleration and deceleration. Primary music devices are generally based around variability of patterns and relativity to one another. In such a way you tell a story.

Thats also why I consider it that a metal song esspecially can only ever COME in hard, it cant actually ever sustain its own hype (except in rare iconic genre defining instances of work) so usually all you have a build up and traditional pop music devices. The fact that music has in modern times been reduced to that anyway is in hindsight proof of how powerful that formula was even during its time because of those basic pillars of production being there.

Back during the times when only a studio could mix and master like that, before Logic and Ableton became the norm on any laptop.

And we are still making music with those same principles to this day, and nothing much else strays from that. The art is gone of course.

Yes, gorgeous Layne inside and out. I cried when they did Nutshell for Layne and Mike Starr and told us to hold our lighted phones to the heavens in 2019. I’ve been obsessed with Layne. I follow his fan pages.

His voice was one of a kind.

I think of him every time I go to Seattle. I also went to Kurt’s house and memorial. There were fresh flowers there, after 27 years? I’ll never forget where I was when I heard on the radio that Kurt died.

These guys were larger than life and their music has had so much influence. They may have passed away, but legends never die.

On the subject of female. I saw Courtney Love’s band and Jen (Gen?) and the Genitorturers when she had the former lead Singer of Morbid Angel. David Vincent and I always preferred Steve Tucker. I liked Formulas Fatal To The Flesh and Gateways to annihilation better than any of their previous albums. Day one cd’s for me.

For me I loved Crisis. Karen has retired as a musician and now is an artist. But I loved her vocal styling back then. Her bassist had or was born with an extra finger on each hand iirc their interviews were unique af.

Listening to working out the graves right now and she sounded like Luna Vachon at times but a lot better looking IMO.

Exactly. What's amazing is to hear my 16 year old daughter randomly start playing their music when she was 13, with no influence from me as I only listened to them with headphones. She even went to a Queen concert at age 13. Her classmates all said today's music is crap and listened to music from the 70s-90s. I also heard Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Rush and Iron Maiden coming from her room, just lol at a 13 year old playing that
