I lol'ed OP. I have a gay uncle, too. Growing up, he was one of my coolest relatives. I'm older and grew up in a very conservative area and never knew until I was around 20, when my dad told me. He was my dad's oldest sibling. My grandparents had 8 kids and there were 30+ grandkids and we would do a huge family reunion every year. Most years this uncle would come to town with a different classic car that he had restored. He had an old Corvette, various old trucks (one was a '55 Ford that he had gutted and dropped a Corvette engine into). He especially loved the old convertible tail fin Chevies. We'd always go swimming the first day of reunion and all the cousins wanted to ride back with him in whatever car he happened to bring.
When I was 15 and had just gotten me driver's license a few months previous I road back with him after the first day of swimming. That year he didn't bring a classic, instead he had his 1989 Trans Am Official Indianapolis 500 Pace Car.

Anyway, we're getting in and he holds out the keys and asks if I want to drive. Of course, I did. He encouraged me to "drop the hammer" merging onto the freeway so of course I had to do that, too. Good memories, I thought I was so cool. What brings him to mind is he had been out for years as gay, but the first time he ever brought a partner around was to my grandma's funeral. Grandpa had died years before so he waited until both his parents were gone. Some in the family were bothered by it. I didn't care for the timing, but figured there was nothing to be gained by me worrying about it.

While my uncle doesn't restore cars, when I was like 8, he had some kind of fast car. We'd go and do burnouts and chit. As a kid was the coolest thing ever.
Whatever the car was, it had pop up headlights, but they were on a delay. He'd clap his hands and the lights would pop up.
Mind blowing for an eight year old lol.

Literally no mention of homosexuality in either passage you gave. Unless you're using the big book of hating gays version of the Bible that they only use in certain parts of the US which has anti gay stuff added all over the place.

Good for him, he has as much right to be there as anyone else, and completely has the right to be publicly gay. It’s a shame he couldn’t tell your opa while he was alive, but I guess he had his reasons.
