Part of feeling self actualization is struggling in life. It is important in making us the people we are. Nothing can replace the satisfaction of accomplishment which comes after true struggle.

Can someone please refute this argument I get from liberals? They always say that liberals are the most educated and knowledgeable because look at where the academic institutions are such as Berkeley, Stanford and the Ivy League schools are and the politics that they believe are in.

It's a tough argument because I am surrounded by people with Masters degrees and PhDs in Computer Science who are very liberal and I'm moderate.

First part of your post - Most of these people have PhDs in fields that are very subjective hence grading is a bit looser. There is no objective truth such as in hard sciences. So it is much easier to get these degrees and advance in them. Knowledge in Underwater Basket Waiving does not make you an expert in healthcare policy.

Also sitting in academia fantasy land (this is equally true for both something like math and gender studies) your whole life and never leaving is a great way to be completely detached with the real world of the average human.

I'd cool off on this. While correlation of struggle in high level lives exists, the whole orientation involves supporting family.


Also, the le iq means I cannot interact with mere mortals is not true after a certain level and probably anywhere socially in touch.

I would recommend orienting social life similar to religion because this explains most principle values correctly. This allows a social life while still trying to live to a higher standard.

I disagree. Life and fulfillment means personal growth. It is through struggle that you get to see the best and possibly worst of yourself. It is the most important thing in life to push yourself outside of your bubble. A life without struggle is like a life without sadness. You need to experience BOTH highs and lows.

As for family, I dont think I need to teach my daughter about the importance of that. She is pretty well set in that area.

I also would be 100% proud of her if she happened to meet a boy who could support their family and she decided to be a mom. There is no greater sacrifice in life than to devote yourself full time to your family. Heck she may very well support herself with her current goals by the time she has kids.

THAT is what they have come to desire. Pretty amazing to see your kids become people who you can take inspiration.

Your kids can become the most revealing mirror you have ever stood in front of in your life. They will very quickly point out your flaws and shortcomings. But when you see the good in the reflection, it is the most rewarding thing I have ever felt in life.

I used to be in MLMs and what you wrote sounds just like what the VPs and above say! It was my “why” in a skin care and health MLM as I didn’t want my daughter in day care, which we thankfully kept her out of. I did really well and I was finally able to quit my job, but then the recession hit and killed my business in 08. At least I got a free trip to Puerto Rico.

Not everyone is as fortune to have that much free time to be with their family.

This is one of the things I dislike about the US college system.

In many countries, you only do courses specifically or closely related to your major and graduate after three years, due to all of the unnecessary fluff being removed.

If somebody wants to do the fluff, let them add it as electives; don't force it on them.
Screw nature; my body will do what I DAMN WELL tell it to do!

The only dangerous thing about an exercise is the person doing it.

I would say I am pro choice for very early on, but personally it is not what I would choose. I am very much against late(er) term abortions.

She is just a kid, developing ideas as she has experiences in life. Very easy early on to not value the lives of the unborn. A lot changes when you hold your own child for the first time if you are lucky enough.

We have debates on it often, and I understand totally why she feels how she does. I only try to get her to understand the spectrum and come to feel what she does because it is HER belief and not be manipulated by headlines or just follow the 'sheep'

I disagree. Life and fulfillment means personal growth. It is through struggle that you get to see the best and possibly worst of yourself. It is the most important thing in life to push yourself outside of your bubble. A life without struggle is like a life without sadness. You need to experience BOTH highs and lows.

As for family, I dont think I need to teach my daughter about the importance of that. She is pretty well set in that area.

I also would be 100% proud of her if she happened to meet a boy who could support their family and she decided to be a mom. There is no greater sacrifice in life than to devote yourself full time to your family. Heck she may very well support herself with her current goals by the time she has kids.



We have started early with her financial education. She has been building her credit since 16. (We established her start of credit reporting by adding her to our credit account at the earliest allowable age. Since turning 18 she opened two more credit accounts on her own. Once she gets her first verifiable income, she will buy her first property and get the mortgage. She started saving in high school for this. Her Sr year of HS she worked 30 hrs a week. She has close to 20k saved from working part time in HS. We did not ask her to do this. Her goals are to be financially independent so she can raise her (future) family like she wants. She has witnessed having 2 parents at home with her for her entire life. Her mom has always been a mom, and I have been self employed my entire life. From 09 on I worked from home on my schedule.

Never missed a soccer practice, or dance class. Never missed a game or recital or school party. I am very lucky in that way, but I can see the impact (good) that is has had upon our kids. They in turn have set very high standards for what they want in life. The most awesome thing is it is not the Lambos they want, or the big homes, but they recognize the freedom we have had to live our lives with our family at the center. THAT is what they have come to desire. Pretty amazing to see your kids become people who you can take inspiration.

Your kids can become the most revealing mirror you have ever stood in front of in your life. They will very quickly point out your flaws and shortcomings. But when you see the good in the reflection, it is the most rewarding thing I have ever felt in life.
My point is definitely true. Not an opinion. Luckily, you do not make enough sense to mean what you say.

I might not be the smartest guy in every way. I have worked with some within reach.

You overrate what you guys do to overlook normal limits and better decisions than undue megalomania.

Running out on your children for idealistic equality might sound attractive in theory. The internal logic or mental/spiritual exercise might also help you. It does not make sense when you consider all the pieces. Staying in touch with other social life like your wife and daughter making decisions will stop your ideas going wrong at least sometimes.
