Right in Worobey's paper:
At the very least, after peer review, the Worobey et al. 2022 paper now says: “However, the observation that the preponderance of early cases were linked to the Huanan market does not establish that the pandemic originated there.”At the very least, after peer review, the Worobey et al. 2022 paper now says: “However, the observation that the preponderance of early cases were linked to the Huanan market does not establish that the pandemic originated there.”

Not that if matters. Evidence is evidence, and it rejects the lab leak. One side — natural origins — is continually publishing their work in selective science journals. The other has kept to social media, opinion articles and books for profit. Gee I wonder why.
There are no depths of lying and exaggeration you won't go to I see. This admission by the Energy Department about the lab leak was not intended to be seen by the public. It was a leak. All evidence points toward lab leak. The only way it was deflected away at all was through China's lie in early 2020 that the exact virus was found in pangolins as an intermediary species. Had it not been for that lie the origin would have been assigned lab leak this entire time.

There are bats in Laos more closely related to SARS-CoV-2

No it isn't. The Worobey paper you suggested as evidence for natural origin doesn't really show anything.

They tried to act like the paper was some kind of smoking gun, and it just ain't so.

No one said it was a smoking gun. The paper suggests a natural origin. The evidence suggests it. Also, note the experiments done on Laos bats at WIV failed to produce a FCS. Those were different strains and from a different cave.

This does not rule out a lab leak. It's simply less likely. The origin of covid remains unknown. Consensus in the scientific community is that it is natty. Incidentally, the intel agencies also agree even though this report indicates a couple consider it (with low confidence) to be more likely it is a lab leak. Not that their word means anything.

They were researching SARS-related coronaviruses in BSL2 and BSL3 labs. They weren't even using the BSL4 lab for some risky experiments. Needless to say, that is very dangerous.

We don't even know the full scope of the work they were performing at WIV. The State Department has intelligence that they were performing secret military research at WIV, too.

The arguments can be summed up in "well it's possible the virus came from the wild" because similar viruses exist in the wild. The same viruses are also present and constantly manipulated at the Level 4 Biolab in Wuhan, less than half a mile from the wet market China lied about the virus originating from. All virologist comments about the virus for a long time were under the assumption China wasn't lying about pengolins being infected in late 2019.

If we were dealing with a credible country maybe a slight belief in natural origins could be believed. But China is opaque, claiming 5200 deaths in 3 years. Video evidence shows otherwise. They in reality had more than that many in January 2020 alone. They even stopped testing entirely right after they let their cities open up. No testing since early January. LOLz.

The wet market China blamed is more like 1 km from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, not 20 km.

It's still consensus that the virus likely has a natural origin. It is still a conspiracy theory that it doesn't even if it may be possibly true. And the US intel community has still not yet released this "low confidence evidence" they claim to have.

Like I said, I will wait for actual evidence.
Indeed. ATM I'm filing this as a piece of sinophobic propaganda. What I've seen the molecular biological evidence for natural origins is very convincing and rigorous. There is no empirical evidence for the lab leak that I've seen, and we can lay down very specific lines of falsifiable evidence for the hypothesis too.

The low-confidence claim doesn't instill me with positivity, and I highly doubt they've got enough to overturn the positive evidence for natural origins that I've seen either.

All the pieces fit for the natural origin.
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

Clown World
The minute China won't let the WHO properly investigate WIV for lab leak

The minute China takes their viral sequences database offline

The minute China destroys coronavirus samples from the earliest patients

The minute we see FOIA'd emails from Fauci and Collins pushing scientists towards natural origins out of fear of "maintaining global harmony"

The minute we see the entire scientific community walk in lock-step with natural origins with no evidence

The minute we see the entire scientific community call anyone a conspiracy theorist for thinking anything other than natural origins

>>You'd have to be an idiot not to question the narrative being sold to you.

As I posted in the other thread, I’m just curious, you seem to follow politics pretty closely, and if that pic of a skinny Arabic/white kid floating around that everyone claims is you, you look somewhat healthy, maybe a bit malnourished.

But no doubt you had seen the prior Governor of NJ (Chris Christie)catch Covid before the jab was available. So if we all saw this middle aged, overweight, diabetic, whom had nothing but health issues the entire time he was in office beat Covid in less that a FUHKING WEEKEND…why the fuk would you think you needed to take the jab?

Can anyone explain why it is that the battle lines are so vehemently drawn on this by people who don't believe it came from a lab? I honestly don't get how it's seen as a conspiracy theory to think that it wasn't a naturally-ocurring virus when there was a lab nearby studying on coronaviruses, all within a country known for its shadiness and refusal to admit to any shortcomings. That's not evidence of them doing it, butwhyare people so dead-set against the possibility of it coming from there?

I think many are opposed to claims regarding certainty of origin - either way - but social media has a tendency to pull to extremes and remove nuance.

I've never said a lab leak was impossible. In fact, part of the case for natural origins is to study how past lab leaks happened and how the situation with Covid was different.

I call it a conspiracy because it's not availing itself of all the empirical evidence, it's ignoring the significant precedent for a natural pandemic bound to occur, and basically just pointing at fingers and attributing agency, and furiously connecting invisible dots that aren't there.
Back off, Warchild.

RE the bold I would have to disagree, given how the mainstream narrative has been that it absolutely, definitely, certainly had to have been a natural transmission and anyone questioning it has been a conspiracy loon all this time.

The only thing that I can think of is that Trump pushed hard for the lab-leak theory and as we all know large sections of the media/society as a whole just had a horrific knee-jerk reaction to anything he pushed for/sided with. But I want to believe that the dogma RE "no lab-leak" is something besides that because it'd just be incredibly petty.

So it's a conspiracy that a coronavirus outbreak occured in Wuhan, a city with a lab working on coronaviruses, in a country known for not being on good terms with the West, that's known for always wanting to project a strong image and not be seen as ever having made mistakes, because natural pandemics have previously occurred? I'm not saying you're a loon for thinking it was natural, but I just don't get how you can pivot to saying "oh yeah, and anyone who thinks it had anything to do with the nearby lab is some tinfoil-hat wearing stooge."

It just seems like such a bizarre escalation from "this is what makes the most sense to me, the other may be plausible [which I assume you would agree with].....butanyone who believes it has fallen for a conspiracy theory."

CNN seems to think it comes from the Chinese CDC in Wuhan, and not WIV, which is interesting.
Three sources told CNN that the Department of Energy’s shift was based in part on information about research being conducted at the Chinese Centers for Disease Control in Wuhan, China, which was studying a coronavirus variant around the time of the outbreak.

CNN has previously reported that the Chinese CDC lab in Wuhan was researching coronaviruses and bats, but it is unclear how closely related the variants being studied there were to SARS-CoV-2, the strain of the virus which spread around the world in 2020.

But this guy corrects him in the comments, it was actually 4 scientists who got paid heavily by Fauci after flipping to lab leak:
