Brootal truth. Imagine playing RTS games on a PC rather than chasing wet hole in your youth. One life, dun fuked up, I'd be that mad too.

Imagine telling someone else how they should spend their money or spare time. That's some Reddit and 4chan energy right there.

He plays games on a Playstation portal, possibly the lowest quality option for consuming a video game, and then has the nerve to judge anyone else. It's incredible

Gaming on PC was a plus but it was not my main reason for building one. You guys realize a PC is for more than just gaming, right?

PC is multiple purpose and for that reason alone, it was worth spending hundreds more.

If your purpose was solely for casual gaming, then yes, a console is absolutely better value.

Honestly I think if you want good gaming performance on either console or PC, you gotta budget around $1300. A buffer zone of $500 from a base $600 Ps5 between the two rigs is good I think because $500 isn't all that much over the course of a few years for high quality gaming. Even $1000 buffer zone isn't all that much for a grown adult with a job compared to a kid who has to rely on their parents for gaming allowence money.

You say it like I am using the Portal at home instead of my PS5. How high are you right now?

PCs are trash for gaming. I cant even misc on my laptop without the stupid thing restarting and installing a new Windows update every couple of days. Add in endless GPU/CPU drivers, patches for games, beta drivers to make the games perform properly on obscure hardware mixes and matches…
Only an autist would enjoy that rigmarole.

Lol good point! PC rig for basic computing and a GPU for graphics work. Console for gaming!

Honestly, if you genuinely want to game casually after work with the boys, just buy a console.

If you're a single dude that spends his time playing a game/watching a movie/discord/miscing then get a PC. As to the OP's question, high end GPU is not worth. Get something affordable mid-range these days and it will run everything at mid-high graphics at 1440p (seriously don't worry about 4k lmao) unless you really do want to try and run really ****ty ports of console games.

I have a **** tier graphics card still cause I only play stuff like WoW and LoL (lower settings, better FPS in higher spell/numbers environment anyway for WoW), but have a much better CPU and solid RAM because I code a lot in R and Python

Or, just get a cheap laptop for miscing, work, browsing etc and a console for gaming.

Much less headache on the gaming side of the equation and your gaming abuses won't fuk up your work pc which may be important. Only strong reasons I can see for having a PC unless you're a huge graphics dork are modding and access to certain games only on pc you enjoy. OR you really enjoy using mouse and keyboard.

Games on PC patch automatically just like they do on console. There is absolutely no difference there.

Is a cheap laptop really that much less than a half decent desktop? At least you can upgrade a desktop and change out the monitor/case over time if you want to. I ****ing hate laptops unless you need them for work tbh.

Was just responding to typical console vs pc **** itt. If you can have both, why not?

Laptops suck fk that

Why spend 1k on a laptop that will certainly be **** in a few years, then another 500 on a console, when you could just spend that 1500 on a good desktop

Jumped from console to a PC setup of a 4080 Super/Ryzen 7800x3D and playing at 1440p on a 165hz monitor has felt CRAZILY worth it. You don’t need a top end card like the 4080 or 90 to have an amazing experience (AMD makes amazing cards at mid range prices with great dollar to fps value) but it IS very special if you opt to jump into the deepest end there.

Lol brah if you have a 4080 super and that cpu then upgrade to a 4k oled asap lol

Oled is really good.

Alright brahs im downloading sun wukong and going to see how well it runs on my 4060 gpu laptop (bought for 1400 cad last year on sale lol)

Edit: game is good. It runs 60-70 frames per second on 4k high settings. Dlss is the game changer, got 40-50 fps on cinematic with rtx

I'd build a better one than them for the same price. Even if the price is a little higher than the PS5 to get the job done, PC is just better brah.

Wait for the 50 series cards to see how the 5070 compares to the 4080. IMO those are the best bang for buck if you're after a smooth 4K experience.

DLSS is working some magic and frame generation is great but those are crutches that I would say should only be leaned on just enough to hit your target. You want the GPU itself to get you the majority of the way there and then DLSS/FrameGen to give that final bump.

3070 is still good for some casual gaming. Especially since you can find them used for like $200 now.

Ive been playing Sand Land on my 3070 at 4K and 60 FPS. Although it does dip during some spots. I'm sure it would be smoother if I just lowered some of the shadow and texture details.

Just buy it bro, get it gently used for a good price, run it, see how much you care about it and also just to get the itch taken care of. If its not worth it to you after having it, you can sell it at break even. Im always building a top of the line PC with pieces I find a good prices on marketplace, but I do very little gaming so i just end up selling it at break even after 6-12 months. sold my gaming pc at the beggining of the year and now running a macbook pro m1 pro for my daily usage.

Well with the PS5 Pro being nearly an 800 dollar investment, high end gpus certainly became more appealing.

Man this forum is jacked.

Disagree with freeburner, and I say this as someone who thought the price of the pro was a lil too high for a console.

High end GPUs alone are the cost of the pro and much, much more so nah I don't think this will entice many consolecels over. Most of them will still stick to the base PS5.

Anyway, with the Pro… Imo they could have reduced the storage from 2TB to 1, included disk drive and stand, and have a flat $649 in ALL regions. The presentation was also a failure. The very first game they had to on to show off the pro was a fuking PS4 game. Why did they use TLOU 2 and only showed in the end a 3 second clip of FF Rebirth? You know, the 2024 game that actually needed this upgrade? Truly baffling. There should have been far better comparisons with screenshots as well. There should have been media breakdowns on proper secondary channels like Digital Foundry releasing after. Finally, the presentation should have ended with a trailer of a new game running on the pro. Bloodborne? Ghost2? Even Death Stranding 2 would work.

Obvs I'm buying it still because console is my only platform but damn I should be in charge of Sony fr. I would even have burner buying a pro.

I dont know what you guys were expecting, its not a PS6, its a ps5 pro. its only good to run your favorite games at higher resolution while keeping the higher framerate. With inflation Im not suprised at the price. If you cant afford it just stick to the ps5 which is crazy cheap right now. Lol people were dropping over a grand on the ps5 when it was sold out every where because they "had to have it."

Yeah I find it funny as fuk some people in the PC community are saying "damn this price is astronomical, it will push people towards PC" when PC prices are also astronomical. Gaming tech has just gotten more expensive all round.

I'm not at all shocked at the PS5 pro price, I think it's okay for what you get. I did some pixel peeping on my phone of all things where they compared 30fps fidelity on the PS5 to 60fps pro mode in Spiderman 2. You would expect the same sharpness with double the frame rate but pro mode looked even a little sharper than fidelity mode. There's no way the 45% extra GPU can account for double the frames and even a little more sharpness so that upscaling is definitely putting in a ton of work.

So far my expectations have been exceeded by a little in regards to the power so I don't think the price is too much off. I think sentiment would be alot better if this was $649, with stand and disk drive and a much better presentation that showed off some new games.

I have yet to see anywhere online where the PS5 Pro isn't getting absolutely roasted for everything, presentation to lack of games to it's absurd price and lack of an included stand or Blu ray.

For the sonycels who want more, buy it. But that's really the target for this device. No one else. Because for anyone else it's simply meh. For alot of people entering the 800 dollar range with subscriptions needed on top of that… Is build a PC territory.

If you see the PS5 Pro launching at 700 dollars without even a Blu ray player or a damn stand of all things.. And building a pc still doesn't cross your mind… Then you are the absolute target audience for this device.

Also the only reason people were dripping g's for ps5 was because of covid and scalping. The general reception of this device has not been a good one, people aren't going to go crazy for it.

You are not building a PC that's anywhere close to PS5 pro for $700.

Ive been laughing all morning looking at threads on reddit by angry poorcels using part picker to build a "pro killer" PC at that point only to get roasted in the comments. It's either the system isn't powerful enough, or they're omitting a bunch of auxiliary prices (Wifi, Bluetooth, controller, cooling, Windows license etc). On top of that, you spend that $700 for a hodgepodge of poverty/outdated parts that don't have upgrade potential, ie, you won't just be able to swap out the GPU without changing out other chit too.

Literally no serious PC user would suggest building a PC at that price point and expect it to hold its own in the PC gaming world for 2 years, much less how long a PS5 pro would hold its own thanks to its optimized hardware that devs can specifically tailor make the experience for. It's always the dumb PCcels that never admit that having 50+ million other systems out there with the exact same hardware configuration will allow it to punch far above its weight.

If I took the PS5 pro hardware, put it in a PC case with windows installed and tagged it at $700, PCcels would see it as the 2nd coming of Jesus.

If you end up building a $700 PC… Chances are you are going to be dropping another $700+ on it in upgrades within months lol.

That's something these PCMR guys never talk about.

The pro also has RT made by AMD that's not even available on any of their PC cards at the moment, so overall what you're getting here is something like a 7700xt - 7800xt with better RT tech. The 7800 xt is like $500 by right now and you won't even get the same RT so if you really want to soundly beat it at the moment I'm guessing a 4070 super or something? That's like $600 by itself. Add $100 and congrats, you have a PS5 Pro that will last you well into next gen since I'm guessing most PS6 titles will still be cross gen.

If you're the type of person who can comfortably afford a big 4k OLED you'll get years of enjoyment out of this.

I'm not talking about building a PC for for the same price. When I say something like "build a PC territory" it means a more broad spectrum of how much you might spend. Maybe it's smthe exact same amount as a console, maybe you spend an extra thousand. It's the territory of considering pc bulling and spending maybe more or whatever. No one is talking about directly building a PC for the exact same price of a console.

I'm saying going up into a price range of 800 dollars for a complete system + subscription services will have alot of people considering spending that or more and just joining the pc master race. Alot of people will have the mentality of "well maybe I should just build a PC then"

You can Def spend 1200ish and have a great pc, and you will also Def spend 1200 through the life of ps5 pro ownership. These are things long term intelligent consumers will consider.

Consoles are meant to be a cheap option for a lesser involved consumer. The PS5 Pro is meant for the enthusiast, and at that price range enthusiasts might just consider going pc since they are entering the 4 digit price range of console ownership.
