what I learned..
1) the glass gets heavy AF.
2) I now know the reason why i've been hitting the gym.
3) the glass is SPECTACULAR.
4) I fee like i'm cheating when using it. this thing is a amazing. i'm in love.

Thank you for selling me on it, gents!!
Great news. Looking forward to seeing some shots with it.

A monopod would be a solid investment for that thing especially for longer shoots.

Giottis make one for $65 that is 6'2" and supports 30lbs but as you'd expect for the price they're cutting corners. Given the value of that lens I'd go with a Gitzo .

I've been using a Gitzo tripod for over 5 years and it's never failed me. I'd rather spend more up front for quality gear than have to replace it every few years.

thank you!

I'm a bit leery of using any support system since I am normally shooting from the low point and am actively moving.
Definitely going to explore my options, though.

Guys, the Fro is giving away some cameras and if you use this link to enter the contest http://upvir.al/ref/Z3895064 I get 3x the entries per person. Even if you don't care about the contest could you sign up using that link? Thanks!

Sunday night i scored a canon eos 750d and 10-18mm, 18-55mm, 55-250mm lenses second hand less than a week old unopened $1850 on receipt and got it for just $1000 plus he threw in a new tripod. Spent monday taking shots around the house learning all the basic settings, finding it quite easy to use considering its the first time ive touched a camera other than my phone so im pretty wrapped with it.

while packing to go camping tomorrow in hopes for some herpetofauna shots i heard a bird squawking, went out and got my first bird shot after 3 days of failure

Here's some pics I took with a Canon EOS 5D the week before when I was in Moab, UT. I'm a beginner. I just decided to rent a camera and shoot

I saw this cool rock sculpture on my way to the parks.

Dead Horse Point
-This is one of the higher points where you can see most of the Canyonlands Park. Really cool and a simply drive before entering the Canyonlands.

A cool little noir pic I took driving up there

Canyonlands National Park

Probably what the Moab area is known for. 527 square miles of canyons, mesas, buttes, arches, and shrubbery throughout this beautiful terrain! Two things I was thankful for was that I rented an SUV and that I came early. I spent a LOT of time in Canyonlands. I started at this safe looking road trail. I'm like okay this will be cool. To my surprise 4-5 miles I'm at the top of a f*cking canyon! I'm afraid of heights! I carefully drove down it. Like I said glad to have the SUV (it was a Chevy AWD). I was equally scared as I was excited to see all this. Gorgeous!

Took this one somewhere in the middle of my descent down the canyon.

Arches National Park

Got up at 7:30 AM to go to the park (luckily only 5 miles from Moab) to take these pictures. Arches is very drivable to be honest. There are some cool sights. Best time to take pictures here is sunrise and sunset.

First sight I saw! Elephant Butte I think.

Balanced Rock

A cool one I took and added some filter

Final_rep sorta helped me get to the conclusion that the 10-24mm on my D7100 really is a great lens, and that I need to utilize it's capabilities more, rather than seeking out better glass. My landscape shots lack crystal clear feel to them, probably due to aperture and not using a tripod, which I hate lugging around everywhere, but probably should.

Also picked up a 35mm for $120 off ebay, interested in selling my 50mm if anyone is in need.

I am looking for advice about a new lens. I currently don't have any lenses that go above 120mm for my Nikon D750. I do have a sigma 70-300mm lens for my Pentax K30, which has served me well so far, but I want something for my Nikon due to the obvious better performance. I would like to be able to shoot wildlife as I am planning to take a couple trips to some national parks next year. I have looked at the Nikon 200-500mm and Sigma 150-600mm. Any suggestions? I would like to have the extra reach, but these lenses are huge and heavy.

There's no way around physics.

Image stabilization adds further weight but is essential in a longer lens. They're already using a lot of cheap sh*tty plastic on consumer lenses these days (even on pro gear) right down to filter threads and the hood so there's not much more they can do to shave off weight. And f/6.3 is at the limit for AF in most cameras.

If weight is a problem consider getting a carbon fiber monopod.

The lens is absolutely ridiculous. You can run around at 500mm waving it in the air and get sharp shots.

You could buy a used DX body. A used D7100 can be had for $500-600. A used DX 55-300mm is less than $200.

Another option would be a FX 70-300mm for ~$300. It's not top of the line optically. Paired with a D7100, you'd get 105-450mm for $500 less than the 200-500mm. Plus you'd have a Nikon backup body and a lens that could also be used on your D750.

D7100 + 70-300mm will be about 3.3 pounds, while a D750 and 200-500mm will be over 7 pounds.

Can anyone recommend reflector holders that aren't garbage? I'm going to be traveling with them, so I don't want cheap Chinese junk.
