Actually wanted to quote the post where you said "quitting has improved every aspect of my life"
Challenge accepted. Had my last beer last Monday night.
Has not improved:
Gym recovery. I don't know if it was the calories or what but my recovery is not as good.
Length of sleep. Though the quality has improved. Popped out of bed Sat/Sun AM at like 7:30 and started getting chit done, feeling great.
Has improved:
Sex and quality of bonrars
Confidence
Thickness of wallet
Loss of adipose fat
Productivity at home and werk
Was easy, didn't buy any beer and left the beers in in the fridge alone.
Saturday was a little tough as my neighbors were drinking.
Going to try to keep going. No more drinking just because I like beer. Social events like pig roast, annual 4th of July party I will be throwing down beers with the family, that's the plan for now anyway.

So, a couple of things happen when you quit drinking–some muscle soreness and tenderness can occur for awhile as your body starts the healing process. Depending on how long and how much can affect how long it takes your body to heal and rid itself of the byproducts stored.
In addition, studies have shown that alcohol intake can reduce pain even after the acute effects have left your body–although, it's not recommended by anyone (for obvious reasons). So, you're actually starting to feel things (including pain) again–I had a broken big toe once, and I swear it never bothered me until after I quit drinking. It hurt for 6 months straight.
Totally with you on quality of sleep and length–mine is drastically better/higher quality and I definitely don't need as much. Since alcohol is a toxin, the body pretty much ignores normal sleep patterns when it's present until it rids itself–so, you may not be awake, but you're technically not asleep–and that takes a toll on the body over time because much of the benefits of sleep are lost.
More money and better sex are definitely strong motivators!
It's pretty awesome that you're trying the challenge–especially because it's not caused by a negative consequence in your life.
I wished a lot of times that I could be more like you and WellHungOver, just have a casual beer or drink every now and then and not let it consume my life. It started that way for me though, and I'm not really sure when I crossed the line. I spent some quality years trying to get back to that line, never happened.
Another thing that I found is that people are really interested when you don't drink–I say it proudly now and never really go into specifics.
A lot of people I've found think it's kind of cool–and coupled with them seeing me eat the right things and committed to the gym, they usually have some questions.
My answer is always the same, I do all of it because my goal is to be healthy in mind, body and spirit.
Who can really argue with that?

This is more like when I quit eating crap and started working out 10 years ago, doing it just because I want to. I thought long and hard about what blessings drinking gives me and really the only time it brings joy is those events where it's part of an occasional social/family scene.
Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

Just got 3 tons of wood pellets (heat with them in the NE) delivered. Guy left 2 tons in my driveway instead of my barn wtf. Me and my son had to move 100 40lb bags by hand.

Gone are the days of drinking and sleeping like a rock. Now if I have even a few drinks, I sleep like ass and feel awful the next day. That alone is reason enough to stay away from the bottle(s). Old age, huh fellas?
