He's one of those savant types. It wouldn't surprise me if many of those elite players are on the spectrum and all that woodshedding is a form of stimming. A lot of people can parrot stuff and build up impressive chops being spoon fed instructional videos but there's something about his brain that is wired differently. It goes way beyond motor skills. Being able to deliver like this in one take.

I keep coming back to Allan Holdsworth. He was never satisfied with his playing. Most players with 5% of his ability would commercially milk it for all its worth and enjoy the ride. He didn't even like practicing if anyone could hear him and said he would rather flip burgers than sell out. George Benson and EVH opened doors for him with record deals and he had no interest in making them happy. Was always apologising for his playing with lines like "I'm sorry you had to hear that" even though everyone in attendance was swinging from his nuts. To reach that kind of level you probably need to fall into the category of socially awkward and become extremely obsessive.

As I mentioned in your other thread. That's why I build partscasters. It should be cheaper and you get everything you want. It's fun as fukk coming up with an idea and searching for the parts to make it work. Building my own 100% is in the near future.

Guitar prices are high are they worth it? Only if yer stuck on a certain brand and don't have to feed kids. I've played $100 no name brand guitars that play like butter and $5000 that play like poo.

Jackson is owned by fender and fender brand itself is the bread and butter. Like Chevy and GMC

Reps tomorrow
The materials to build my own together cost more than buying a mass produced one otherwise I would

I love fender

Fenders can definitely do Metal and I was looking into just buying a few of those the other week with the HH setup

American strats , teles and jazz masters are ****ing cool

The jazz master is probably one of my favorite guitar shapes DFS

Jim Root from slipknots and stone sour custom guitars are really really nice.

the new ones are made in the Mexico plant though not the corona plant out here in CA

Getting a custom made from kiesel or another niche cheaper guitar company might not be a bad idea either

With my options a kiesel custom V would only cost like 2200$ handmade

I wouldn't think about certain "brands" doing specific genres, just whether a specific guitar does it. And with today's technology you can make a wimpy single coil djent like a MOFO anyways.

I was at a Dragonforce concert the other week and they were playing PRS lol

any brahs diehard 6505+/6505 guys ?

ive wanted a Bogner uberschall for a longtime but ive been listening to it side by side to a 6505+ with studio monitor headphones the last few hours and it honestly sounds kinda like ****

its got a slightly heavier bottom and mid range in it which I loved but it sounds so compressed and fizzy compared to the peavey

the 6505 series can get extremely close if you up your Bass and Mids which I already do

I just find it funny how the peavey cleans up better than amps 4x the price lol

The beauty of a partscaster is it can look like crap and it's cool. The most important parts of a guitar is the neck and the pickups. Fancy paint don't make it sound good.

I love the look of a hard played beat up guitar over anything

It's been posted here before I think. Steve has or will do something cool with it and then it will go away almost forever

have any of you checked out the "misc battle thread"? they're making backing tracks out of samples and some of them sound like good backing tracks to improvise guitar over. It's more hip hop oriented, but even though these tracks are good for hip hop freestyle, they still sound ripe for guitar improv. I finally got the house empty to myself for an hour today so I'm gonna try to record something. I thought I'd link this thread here in case any of you guys want to try collaborating with them. It seems like they gonna be doing this regularly making tracks so it's good content if anybody's looking to throw down some improv:

Well I've been waiting all of about 7-8 months now, but George Lynch is finally shipping out my custom Mr. Scary guitar soon. My patience was definitely tested, but it'll be worth the wait. Initially he made the neck with the incorrect inlays, advised me of that December of 2021 and said it'd take 4 weeks which subsequently became 3 months lol. Had to text/email numerous times, but eventually I got an update that the new neck was ready, per his last update he was gonna string it up and ship out ASAP.

EDIT: Won't let me upload a photo for some reason.

Just picked up a Jackson Pro Broderick sig (7 string) , I havent bought anything outside of Ibanez for the last seven years or so it feels like, but this thing shreds. Honestly it might one of the best feeling guitars ive ever played. The CB DiMarzio's are actually really solid, I prefer them over my Fishman's but I loved D-Activators forever so it makes sense. Has anyone played the US made one? The transparent white is hnnggg and legit thinking about getting one

Trying to recreate this pedalboard, I think I’ve narrowed down most of the pedals here but having trouble identifying two pedals.

From what I can see there’s the following

MXR Phase 90
Morley Dragon 2 Wah
Ceriatone Centura/Klon Centaur
Voodoo 2 Power Brick
Ibanez Tube Screamer TS808
Boss FS-5L Footswitch
Mu-Tron Octavider (Not Pictured)

I can’t clearly make out the large white pedal in the upper right of the board, or the small silver pedal to the left of the Tube Screamer. Any help is greatly appreciated

for any Metallica fans:

"And Justice for All" pitch shifted down to D.

This album was definitely lacking bass in the original mix, I have to say listening to it tuned down a step makes it sound way more brutal. I'm lovin it. Almost sounds like it was meant to be this way.

Hey misc brahs, I'm getting back into playing bass guitar after an 11 year hiatus. Anyone here have any recommendations for books or YouTube videos to start learning again? I ordered Hal Leonard's 3 volume learning book to get me started.

I have an Ibanez jump start kit on the way, but my absolute dream bass is a Warwick Thumb 5-string

Howdy….

I don't have any bass 'recommendations' to pass on as I'm a rhythm guitar player.
Just hoping you stay on your current path to come out of your 'hiatus'.

Be sure to post a pic when your gift arrives.

My Tele is a 1977 Ibanez Silver Series.

Hal Leonard's are ok to start…pick songs you like and get the Tab…or Music Books that show you how to play…work that…slowly…do like 15minutes with Hal Leonard, 15min working songs you like…15 minutes just having a good time…try and use a metronome as much as possible, get an app for your cell phone.

Once you get a song down, play along with the recording… have great time!!

After you get comfortable with that…find guys to play with and play in front of people…that really makes you up your game.

Guys. Never noticed or posted in here before, but I'm coming back to guitar after a lengthy hiatus.

This time around, I'm going to focus on composing and playing synthwave/shredwave, or a novel take on 80s hair metal. I've got the following setup planned:

1. Kramer, Charvel, Jackson or Ibanez guitar

2. Marshall JCM or Mesa-Boggie for amp.

3. Effects pedals: Delay, Chorus, Reverb, TubeScreamer.

4. Korg minilogue

I can get it all mixture of first/second hand for under $2000, which is a steal. If my intention is to sound maximum 80s, how ideal is the setup?
Back off, Warchild.

EVERYTHING for $2000? Probably not going to happen.

I would just grab a used Helix HX floor controller instead of trying to find a real amp. You'll get way more flexibilty out of it and ease of use when recording and you get all the effects and stuff too.

Here's a quick clip of mine doing some high gain stuff, some clean stuff, some effects, etc.

If you simply must go with a real amp, try to find a DSL head and any 2x12 cab. For the hair metal stuff that will work well and won't cost an arm and a leg like a JCM800. If you can find a used Ceriatone JCM800, that may work too but the DSL's are a killer bang for the buck.

For guitar, a used Charvel San Dimas is hard to beat. The older Ibanez RG550's are also extremely good if you can find one in good shape. any old RG from Japan will be excellent.

I had a teal stripe Peavey back in the day that sounded exactly like this only it pumped out 160W and could comfortably drown out any drummer.

With all the modelling options available today I'm not sure why anyone would want to go back to the can of bees. I hope Mike sees some decent coin selling these things but please spare me the BS it sounds like a tube amp.
