Dominik, is that a clip of you playing?

If so, very impressive. I like the dark and abstract vibe of the piece, nice to see a player not shy away from locrian, diminished and altered scale sounds. It's why I implored other musicians I knew to study jazz theory, a veritable treasure trove of unique and interesting sounds beyond the typical crop of pentatonic/harmonic/melodic minor themes.
Back off, Warchild.

That's Tom Quayle playing his new signature model Ibanez. I love that song (Joe Henderson's Inner Urge) for all the reasons you described. Allan Holdsworth covered it back in the 90s. Tom slows it down so his legato bursts over those descending Lydian changes have more impact.

He's an incredible player but Brett Garsed was doing that 30 years ago complete with the same hybrid picking. The only real difference is Quayle tunes to 4ths to make fretboard visualization easier. About 12 minutes into his old VHS instructional video he demonstrates what Quayle does in nearly every legato run peppered with chromatic passing tones. The entire video is on youtube.

It's not a competition but Brett to me is an even more melodically interesting player especially with his slide playing. He's too humble to talk himself up these days. I'm posting this as a reminder for me to chip in to his Patreon.

LOL you ever think of a guitar like an old GF?

I sold a guitar to pawn shop a few months ago and going to see if it's still there.

Feels like an old GF got locked up and needs my help.

Literally about to go rescue the guitar if it's still around 😭😭😭

That type of delay is referred to as latency due to inherent device limitations.

Sorry I can't help with your bluetooth inquiry but….here's a bump.

Good luck on our quest.

Yes latency would be the proper word. Those things are only like $50 so may get one just to see what it sounds like.

In the meantime….pulled the trigger on this bad boy:

Les Paul Standard - Slash Edition

AAA top in special edition color
upgraded humbuckers
no pick guard

This is not the one I got, will update when I get it in on Friday.

If you guys have not shopped at zzound.com before, that website is awesome. They have individual pictures of every individual guitar of each make and model in their inventory. So you can choose the one you like the best, and don't risk being disappointed by the wood grain or whatever else when you get it.

Cool….that's a beautiful bass.
I've always loved the wood finish look.
My trap set (sold long ago) was a natural wood finish.

Enjoy….one only lives one time.

I only say full retard because I spent 3 grand buying it. It's a German built Warwick. I'll never desire another instrument, though. I've achieved peak bass guitar status, so I'll keep it forever

Dumb question but is that twangy southern sound in metal just a lot of vibratos and bends or is it certain scales and progressions ?

I’m starting to realize how many tight bands have it like mastodon , Pantera , Down , Crowbar , White Zombie , etc

Its a sludge/stoner sound that gives off rockabilly/southern rock vibes DFS

I'm not sure about the pickups, but if they're not Dimarzio or EMG I'll install them.

As for amp? I'm thinking a good old JCM800 head and stack. Possibly a Mesa Boogie DR, but that might make the sound more modern metal and less 80s. Effects? Tubescreamer, Chorus, Delay, Flanger, Reverb, but I'm also considering the digital Axe-Fx setup. I've seen that online and am very impressed. For synth, I'm thinking Korg Minilogue.

If I go secondhand, I can get it all for around $2000.

Doubt you can get a nice MIJ Charvel and a JCM800 for under 2000, especially if you don't live in Europe.

Picked up a sliver sky SE today and really like it. I've only been learning guitar for a little over a year. Was playing a Les Paul but it never felt right. The SE feels a lot more comfortable to play for me.

Doesn't feel right now. Once you build strength you'll play any most instruments without problems.

Excellent!

Just looked at some images….what finish did you go with?

Me….I'm an old Tele guy/rhythm player/song writer.
I"m not a strat type player and I think the Tele is the most versatile axe from my POV.

I love the LP tones on some of my material and I'm guessing they still have some major weight.
My Tele is 7.5#.

Stay focused and practice a little bit every day….even if it's only 20 minutes.

Carry on….good luck staying on the path.

I picked up the "Dragon Fruit"

The guitar shop that I take lessons at just got it, and only it, in today and didn't know when they would be able to get any more. I had been thinking about getting one for a while and jumped on it.

Almost a maroon sort of finish.

The ones I saw on the internet were about 850$.

I would think you're referring to a lap steel guitar.

Anyways, couldn't find my old guitar, but did just get an ESP Viper that I'm digging.

Update to my post from Jan 2021… got tickets to see Polyphia tonight (the band that sparked my desire to start practicing again) and my gear's been cleaned up!

LP copy had a Seymour Duncan 59'er put in the neck so now I finally have double zebras, updated wiring from modern to 50s wiring.
N4 I replaced the Bill Lawrence L-500L to a L-500XL, tossed the licensed tremolo and put in an original Floyd Rose with a D-tuna, also changed out the noisy pot.
Oh, both guitars got re-fret with stainless steel.
Grabbed a tuner and a Boss SD-1, finally got pedals off the floor and onto a board with a legit power supply, my noise floor was totally reduced!
