If you need to pull a pistol from under your pillow I think that means your general security plan failed. Unless a ninja breaks in your well secured doors/windows, security system, dog etc should alert you with enough time to take a gun out of a bedside safe.

But I have kids so that’s another factor I got to deal with that you may not if you live alone. I air on the side of keeping things away from them vs having them accessible in the case of an unlikely break in.

I've met two people who have experienced home invasion burglaries. People need to stop kidding themselves on the "plenty of time" being a given. Hell, most alarm systems have to provide 15-30 second delays from a sensor being opened. Otherwise you couldn't disarm it when you came home. That's already a lifetime of delay if you're sound asleep when someone breaks in.

Bingo. It always comes down to training. Always.
I mean it can go either way. Someone that has never had any training that has only ttrained from the beginning to utilize manual safety is just as good as someone that has trained themselves not to use a manual safety.

What most people don't understand is that a break in when you're home , you are literally playing " catch up " , the perp already has a plan and is dead set on implementing that plan, either on drugs and not thinking straight or life long criminal that has been doing it so long no one has stopped him so he has been desensitized to breaking into houses.

A firearm under my pillow with one in the pipe is absolutely better than nothing at all or even better than having a thumb safety safe under your bed. Just my opinion as i have known people that had their houses get broken into ( born and raised in Chicago ) and the common denominator of those victims were the burglar was quick to get in and out and had only ransacked easy target locations.

But i wouldn't want to learn the hard way a firearm could have prevented a break in or worse. ( see the Gainesville Ripper )

I can only imagine the feeling of being violated when your home gets broken into more than anything, the fear of the perp coming back.

It’s up to the individual to determine what works best for them. I don’t feel the need to sleep with a pistol under my pillow. I can get my pistol ready to rock fairly quickly, however. Also I sleep on the second floor so it’s not like someone can break in and easily find me in seconds unless it’s a mafia hit or some non random attack.

Goes back to my original argument that whoever breaks in must really really want what you have inside of your house because the risk is too high

Anyone else have their firearms resting on the coffee table while relaxing at home ?

Briefly read through those murdered and in almost all of them having their doors more secure would have helped more than a gun. Obviously I believe in having a gun for home defense but don’t discount properly securing your home in the first place. In one example he pried open a back door with a screwdriver and waited for his victim to come home where he surprised her and strangled her from behind. Would a gun have helped ? Seems like no as she was ambushed. Properly securing her home and making it more difficult to break-in initially seems like it would have made a bigger difference.

That being said if I didn’t have kids I’d just keep an AR-15 bedside. Pistol is weak sauce.

I have two questions for you guys,

I'm looking to buy an AR armorer's wrench, any particular brand to buy from?

Also I bought a red dot for my FNX, and the supplied screws won't work to mount it, they're too thick to thread into the holes. The factory FN screws that retain the block off plate are just slightly too short to hold the red dot down. If I tighten them, I can tell that they'll strip out. Are their longer screws available? The red dot is a Vortex Venom if it matters.

I can't agree with you more, there is always or should awlays be lines of defense

Line #1 home security, lights, door locks, dead bolts, etc.

Line # 2 situational awareness , always know whos around and have a defense plan ready just in case along with training

Line #3 after they get passed the 1st 2 lines, firearms and self defense knowledge

The only thing you can't really prepare for is a surprise ambush if someone really , really wants to take you out they will find a way regardless of any prepping but in that case again they must have some sort of vendetta as the risk is really high of they themselves getting smoked or getting caught

In any case stay safe brahs i want everyone ITT to be safe 100% of the time

1. Can't really recommend one without knowing what barrel nut you're working with. The most important feature is the barrel nut wrench part. The rest isn't super useful imo. I've got like five different barrel nut wrenches for different nuts. The armorer's wrenches are usually just for mil spec and the three pin type.

2. I would contact Vortex, I'm sure they will at least point you in the right direction.

Can you guys provide some links to small safes to keep bedside?

I’m starting to get anxiety at the thought of my son getting older and possible reaching for a pistol although all of them are unloaded in the house except my pocket pistol which is all I’ve been carrying lately unfortunately.

There’s that…

And then there’s having security cameras with sensors where alarms go off when anyone even breaches your perimeter.

By the time they get to my house, they will find out that they fuked around.

Get him some firearm training ASAP.

most acidental firearm discharges are because people have no training and don't know how to handle a weapon

I always liked the idea of having a Biometric Nightstand Gun Safe. I never had one, but I always liked the idea.

ETA: go to Amazon, put biometric nightstand safe in the search engine. You’ll be overwhelmed at the number of options.
