get a fractal audio axe fx iii/fm3/fm9

amazingly realistic sounding amp modeling and you have any amps tone at your fingertips

I was gonna buy a Bogner Uberschall head and use it with my load box but since my focus rite interface is going out after 5 years I may as well buy a all in one unit for everything anyway

I was contemplating the Axe-Fx as well, amazing variety of tones and sound effects from what I've heard online. Although it's $$$, and I'm not sure how it's meant to work. Does it replace an amp? Does the sound come through the computer and speakers?

I still don't know if it's meant to be used in conjunction with an amp and it basically functions like a digital all in one FX pedal.
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

This slow ass thread on life-support lol.

So I finally got a Squier Custom Vibe 50s Strat on sale from Sweetwater for around $338 out the door.

Man, I can't believe how good this guitar is for the price.

Brb, Suhr Modern Pro sits in case while I shred for hours on my Squier.

Yeah I never really understood the tonal magic of 21/22 frets with a long scale length and single coils until now.

Also, I'm done with 10s, 11s, and 12s - 9s all day every day.

hmmm yeah the idea and convenience of an all in one digital solution is cool. and if you're low budget and flying around touring I get it, but it's just not fun .

yeah sure real amps aren't as convenient etc but it's how guitar is meant to be played

Repped for being a connoisseur of fine guitars.

I really want to try out a GG model, don't those have a set neck?

I do love the tone of the single coil in the bridge as well as the combined bridge and middle coils on position number 2. But if I could only have one guitar then I think it would have be a 22 fret strat with a humbucker in the bridge for maximum versatility.

I would love to try out a Suhr strat.

cheers dawg

ohhh yes and it was fine as hell but I don't have the £££ for multiple £2k + guitars at the moment so had to make decisions

obviously in an ideal world i'd own a bunch. i wonder what it would be like comparing the Suhr GG model with his Charvel model.

yeah exactly, as I only have the one electric at the moment this Suhr is versatile - but yeah, it's not a 'real' Strat.

Nice.
I gotta take some glamour shots of my current collection.
I have a Suhr Modern Pro, Squier CV, Ibanez RG550, Gibson ES-335, Schecter 006 Blackjack, and a Martin OM28.

Yeah I'm also curious to see how the Suhr GG compares to the Charvel GG.

I did have a newer Charvel with a roasted maple neck that I liked based on the strat but it had 24 frets so the neck pickup had none of the magic and I sold it.

i actually got this strat first on my quest for a strat

but after trying a Suhr a few weeks after I decided to shell out the extra £££ for a Suhr, it blows it out the water - it was a fender elite strat btw

Does swimtothemoon even have a traditional amp?

That is a beautiful guitar. Love the transparent color. I have heard frequently that Suhr strats will blow any non-custom shop Fender out of the water.

yeah man, playability it's above custom shop strats IMO, but it doesn't have the 'real' strat 'mojo'. whether or not you think that mojo stuff is bollocks is up to you haha, but they do look cool all worn and ****

I think there is something to the authentic "real strat" sound/feel. But I would really like to be able to compare a Suhr strat and a Fender Custom Shop strat to see for myself.

I honestly think my tone is better with 9s. Also the strings are way easier to manipulate - my bends and vibrato are like way better with 9s.

Fukking SRV and those obnoxious legends about using 19s or whatever for the high E string influencing idiot guitar players for decades into playing strings that are just simply way too thick.

I've read comments over the years that many think the thicker strings have better tones.
Obviously, it's very subjective and probably contingent on a players' personal technique too.

I can play lead on my original stuff but I don't fancy myself as a proficient lead player.
Hence, I'd describe myself as a song writer/rhythm player.
I have an excellent lead player (Ken Lasaine) that I collaborate with on my originals.

If interested, here's a website I've been with for some years.
Pretty good site with lots of forum specific choices.

When it comes to rhythm I can see more of an argument for thicker strings improving tone.
When it comes to thinner strings, at least for me, it seems like I can just elicit more tone from them for lead playing.

Also depends on tuning. I haven't tuned to E Standard for 30 years.

I just put a set up humbucker sized P90s in a Squire tele and damn it sounds good. Had to route for the pickup and installed an HB bridge

I don't have a lot of experience with P90s. From an aesthetic standpoint they always looked slightly off to me due to the placement of the magnets in the center of what looks like a humbucker.

What is the appeal? Do they sound like single coils at all?

They are actually a single coil pickup but the construction is different than a standard SC. I'd describe the sound as maybe a cross between. SC and a low wound HB. It's a different sound. There's lots of great YT vids about the HB sized P 90

They really sparkle when played clean and roar when played through an overdriven amp
