Now that I'm a bonafide strat-guy, a true ambassador of the single coil, I'm eyeing those new American Vintage II Strats. Although I'm not sure at over $2K.

There is another tonal option that is rarely discussed or offered on affordable production guitars so you've got to experiment. Low wind humbuckers .

A lot of the clarity and articulation of single coils with a bit more meat and none of the noise.

Now that I'm an authentic strat-guy I'm immediately skeptical of any pick-up that doesn't have some of that 60 cycle hum. When you hear that buzz you just know it's good tone.

Each to his own. I tried one of those Dual Resonance Dimarzios with mismatched coils once, Air Norton I believe, and couldn't get it out of there fast enough. I went balls deep with shielding to the point where electric guitars can't get any quieter and I'm happy there.

I love the single coil sound just not the hum.

I'm not srs, I don't like the hum but I'm not experienced enough with single coils to identify which brand has the sound I'm looking for. The Squier CV pickups sound good but they seem to lack a certain hollow/glassy tone I look for in a strat - not sure either which pickup position this sound I'm looking for is achieved.
The CV pickups are alnico but I don't think they're particularly good, which is unsurprising considering the cost of the guitar.

I was considering upgrading a bunch of parts on it but decided that I'll just keep it that way for now and likely will buy a more expensive strat in the future.

That sound does have a fat single coil sound to it. Do P90s hum like normal single coils?

Yeah they hum a little, but there's ways to alleviate that. Shielding and a good quality cable help.

You can get noiseless singles but I haven't found one that sounds 100% l ike a SC, they sound sterile to me. I've tried low wound buckers and mini buckers and have got them to sound good but still not enough to keep in the guitar.

Ordered some Honey Picks recently and having a blast trying new thicknesses. Definitely recommend not only them but just reaching for something different to get you playing more.

Also grabbed some Gravity Picks, not a big fan of them and the order arrived wrong but still, lead to some inspiration and got the whole family to pull out their guitars multiple times to test out new picks.

I'm looking to pick up something on the cheaper side that I can use to practice shredding. I've been looking at Jacksons specifically the JS32 Dinky also checked out Kramer Strikers which look like a lot of fun.

Anyone have any experience with these?

I had an old Kramer Baretta that was great and I miss it. If I were to pick between those 2 today I'd probably go with the Jackson

I've been looking at the X series Dinky HSS a little myself

As the resident misc king of all things plectrum lemme tell you - Chicken Picks, Blue Chip picks, Red Bear Trading Co. picks, and Toroise-Shell picks are the best picks around.

Yeah I can vibe with cheap picks for sure, but there's a certain feel and density I go for. I like the picks to have a certain amount of mass to them but with a well carved bevel and a sharp point that doesn't wear easy. That's the big thing with these expensive picks, at least the chicken picks and the blue chip picks, they last a lot longer for me before melting away than say an Ultem or other Dunlop style pick material.

I didn't watch the video yet but that guitar looks like a BC Rich Stealth that retired from rocking out and got a 9-5 pushing paper.

Chuck was great.

Unpopular opinion: Marty has sucked complete ass since Countdown to Extinction.
Tired of those asian-y/middle eastern-y bends and that stupid picking technique he uses.

They are my current #1! I keep an Altoids tin filled with those and the green Tortex .88. The Primetone .88 with the grip is probably 3rd place right now.

Got a promotion after only 5 months in a new career so I treated myself to Iron Age picks.

I don't have the budget for new pedals, guitars, amps, so this is a luxury for me, lol.

I've got experience with the canonical shredders like Jackson, Ibanez etc. but I definitely want to get my hands on a legit 80s era Kramer. They are such an underrated guitar, likely due to their post-80s vanish into obscurity. I've been on a quest for some time to really nail down that archetypal 80s hair metal sound, and IMO Kramer is as close as you get, with maybe Charvel or Carvin in a second. Plus, you want a typical pedal and amp setup to go with.

Which Kramer? I'd recommend the SM-1. It's gorgeous:

Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

Only way to know is to go play one. If yer not into the vintage specs look into the American Ultra

If it's your first tele I'd look into a used Player

Finding one to try is a challenge. What I really want is an AO 60's tele, but those are now unobtanium.

50s and 60s Squire Classic vibes tele are about 50% off at pro audio star. They are listed as used but the guys buying them from the telecaster forum are saying they are brand new. I hear nothing but good things about these guitars

Got the new KSR Hera pedal. Tons of flexibility and seems to work equally well with my marshalls pushing lots of boost as well as just doing light push tightnening up the SLO with it's gain cranked (which can get really thick). The tight gain mode works awesome with the SLO.
