I still have my old yellow DOD 515-A sustain pedal that I only used on one original instrumental back in '86.
Damn thing requires (2) 9 volters!

Haven't used it since as I'm just a rhythm player/song writer (1977 Ibanez tele Silver Series in avatar).

Back to it….

I've covered some pretty high tier stuff - 17 bars of Coltrane's Giant Steps solo, Under A Glass Moon solo, a decent amount of Far Beyond the Sun, that Bettencourt solo from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure Mall scene - but I wouldn't even bother with this chit. I can barely play any of Jimmy Bryant's chit much less Danny Gatton and this dude is like the combination of both with a little extra juice.

The fast double stops, the fast octaves, the harmony lines, the effortless transitioning of different picking styles, there's just so much blackbelt level chit going on it's borderline absurd.

I'm getting me some fukking thumb picks. Been thinking about it for a while but the Jazz III style are pretty expensive.

I don't think buying a 15.00 guitar pick will make you a better guitar player, unless it's something that makes a significant change

Howdy BNP….

Glen Campbell and Roy Clarke are stellar, cream of the crop axe players.
I could watch them play (with great envy) all day.

I'd suck at using thumb picks.

Hope all is well….

Thumb picks always sound good to me in concept. A pick attached to your thumb so that your index finger is free to hybrid pick with the other fingers.

In practice it never feels that way, the way the thumbpicks sit on my thumb always feels awkward compared to how I normally hold a pick. I feel like incorporating a thumbpick would necessitate me changing my technique substantially.

One of the most difficult things I've successfully pulled off was Becker's Serrana Arpeggios. How does this compare?

EDIT: That was impressive. Especially the middle section, which was like combining sweep picking and chicken picking. I've never seen that done before.
Back off, Warchild.

Yeah Serrana is dope but not on this level imo.

first take improv on a guthrie style track.

there was more before this that wasn't that great, but I often manage to pull it together for the big chorus style solos, so here's the part that was pretty good. there's a few notes that I would love to have nailed, and bends, but it's just practice. I gotta put those hours in haha

i know there's a long way to go in terms of polishing but I think the hours playing along to backing tracks is paying off.

not that shredding over a backing track is particularly useful.

also yeah, I know it's all pretty predictable playing

I don't know what axes you currently have but good hunting on your quest.

I only have my Ibanez Tele but if I were rollin' in green I'd have a semi-hollow as an addition.

Have a great weekend.

I was think about getting a squire tele thinline, they were on sale but I dragged my feet and then the price went up. They are on sale again but not quite as low as they were.

I got a few guitars tho so maybe I'll pick up a Fender reverb

I saw this one on Sweetwater.
The single F-hole would take me some getting used to.

How's their return policy if you find something undisclosed or unappealing?

There's a thread in the squire section of the TDPRI forum called Big Squire sale.

The return policy of the company looks pretty good, even on used and B stock, if they honor it

Got my squire tele thinline today and I'll say it's the best 220 I've ever spent. Like I said they are listed as used or open box but this thing was brand new sealed. Plays pretty good as is but I'll have it set up perfect in about 5 minutes.

I'll post some pics when the lighting is better, and when I relearn how to do it. I don't post pics much

Ordered one a few days ago based off this thread. I have no need for it at all but it is so cheap I feel like future me would be kicking myself for not doing it. I had to stop myself at one, I want to get a bunch of other cheap ones of that site.
